Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of poverty, the Human Development Index, and unemployment on economic growth in the districts and cities of Riau Province over the period 2015–2024. The research employs a quantitative method using multiple linear regression with panel data covering 12 districts/cities in the province. The data analyzed include key macroeconomic indicators, namely the poverty rate, HDI, and open unemployment rate. The results show that poverty and HDI have a positive and significant effect on economic growth. In contrast, the unemployment rate has a negative and significant effect on regional economic growth. Simultaneously, these three independent variables explain 34.6% of the variation in regional economic growth, while the remaining portion is influenced by other factors not included in the model. These findings offer important implications for regional development policy. The positive relationship between poverty and economic growth indicates signs of unequal distribution of development outcomes, suggesting that economic growth has not been fully enjoyed by all segments of society. Therefore, local governments are encouraged to prioritize development policies that are more inclusive and socially equitable. It is recommended that investment be strengthened in the education, health, and employment sectors, along with the development of local potentials that can absorb labor and sustainably reduce poverty.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Trans Padang public transportation services in six operational corridors beginning in 2025 (January-February) using a quantitative-descriptive approach. The variables analyzed include the number of passengers, departure frequency, time interval between departures, and travel time patterns based on three time zones (morning, afternoon, and evening) on weekdays and weekends. Data were obtained through direct observation and documentation from the Padang Sejahtera Mandiri (PSM) Regional Company (Perumda). The results show that the highest number of passengers occurs during the afternoon rush hour on weekdays, especially in corridor 1. However, an imbalance was found between the maximum bus capacity and the number of passengers, resulting in a low utilization ratio. In addition, uneven spacing between buses also indicates operational inefficiency. The non-parametric Mann-Whitney statistical test showed a significant difference (p<0.05). In conclusion, operational effectiveness can be improved through frequency adjustments, schedule optimization, and real-time data-based fleet management. The recommendations developed are expected to form the basis for sustainable public transportation improvements in Padang City.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the People’s Business Credit Program (KUR) on reducing multidimensional poverty in Indonesia. Using the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method, this research measures the effectiveness of KUR in improving community welfare by expanding access to financing. The findings indicate that KUR has a significant impact on reducing multidimensional poverty, primarily through increased access to business capital, job creation, and higher household income for beneficiaries. These results align with previous studies highlighting the role of microcredit in poverty alleviation. However, the effectiveness of KUR depends on policy implementation and local conditions. Therefore, integrating KUR with other empowerment programs, such as entrepreneurship training and financial literacy, is necessary to maximize its impact. Additionally, the government is encouraged to strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure the program's long-term sustainability. Through these measures, KUR is expected to become more effective in enhancing community welfare and reducing socio-economic disparities in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates e-commerce adoption among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in emerging countries like Indonesia, where urban centers are rapidly expanding and digital economies are growing. Using Pekanbaru City as a case study, the research highlights persistent challenges that hinder e-commerce growth in these markets. A Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework is developed to identify key factors influencing MSMEs’ decisions to adopt e-commerce platforms. The study analyzes variables including human resources and organizational awareness, compatibility and relative advantage, as well as market pressure, digital readiness, and government support. Primary data from 110 MSMEs in Pekanbaru were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings show that relative advantage, human resource capacity, and government support significantly affect e-commerce adoption, while compatibility, awareness, and market readiness do not. These insights offer theoretical and practical guidance for policymakers and business leaders aiming to accelerate digital transformation. Ultimately, the study presents a policy framework to promote sustainable and equitable economic growth by enabling MSMEs in developing urban areas to adopt digital technologies effectively.

Abstract

In light of Indonesia's status as a developing nation with constrained financial resources, the imperative for strategic decision-making by the government to foster sustained economic growth becomes evident. This research delves into an analysis of the enduring repercussions of foreign debt and foreign direct investment (FDI) on Indonesia's economic landscape. The study employs a comprehensive examination of time series data spanning from 1990 to 2022, employing both the Bounds test cointegration approach and the ARDL model to scrutinize the dynamics at play. The empirical findings underscore the multifaceted influence of foreign debt and FDI on Indonesia's economic growth, illustrating that these factors exert both short- and long-term impacts. Moreover, the research identifies the export control variable as a pivotal factor, indicating an immediate effect on Indonesia's economic development albeit without a lasting impact. Consequently, this unveils a nuanced interplay of variables that contribute to the nation's economic trajectory. In light of these insights, the study posits that the Indonesian government must adopt a judicious and discerning approach in formulating and executing policies related to exports, foreign debt, and FDI. Recognizing the dual temporal impact of foreign debt and FDI, policymakers are urged to balance short-term economic imperatives with a commitment to long-term sustainable growth. The immediate influence of the export control variable further underscores the need for agile and adaptive policy management to navigate the intricacies of Indonesia's economic landscape.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of regional taxes, social assistance expenditures, and income inequality on the economic growth of regencies/cities in Aceh Province for the 2020-2023 period using a panel regression model. The analysis results indicate that regional taxes have a positive and significant impact on economic growth, where increased regional taxes contribute to the development of critical infrastructure and public services. Furthermore, social assistance expenditures also enhance household purchasing power, which directly boosts local economic growth. However, income inequality has a negative and significant impact on growth, as rising inequality hinders public access to education and healthcare and creates social instability. These findings underscore the importance of effective management of regional taxes and social assistance programs, as well as the need for policies to reduce income inequality as a strategy to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Aceh. This study provides recommendations for local governments to formulate more progressive policies in managing economic resources for the welfare of society.

Abstract

One of the government’s steps to address poverty through food security is the launch of the Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT) program. This study evaluates the impact of the Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT) program on household welfare in Indonesia. Utilizing logistic regression analysis and data from the 2017 National Socio-Economic Survey, the research reveals that participation in the BPNT program has a significant negative effect on household welfare. Recipients of BPNT are 8.366% less likely to achieve prosperity compared to non-recipients. This outcome underscores the need to address additional factors influencing welfare, such as education, employment opportunities, and access to social services. While the BPNT program effectively provides food assistance, its design and implementation require improvements to better support recipients in overcoming economic challenges. Enhancing the program's scope and efficiency is essential for achieving its objective of sustainable poverty alleviation and improving welfare outcomes for vulnerable households in Indonesia.
