Abstract

Abstract

Assistance in Preparing Gamification-Based Student Numeracy Test Instruments as a Strategy to Strengthen Teachers' Digital Literacy  Numeracy ability is a basic skill that is needed and must be possessed in the 21st century in all aspects of life, especially in science learning. So, compiling and making numeracy instruments is something that science teachers need to do. The aim of this community service activity is to assist in the preparation of gamification-based student numeracy test instruments as a strategy to strengthen digital literacy for MGMP science teachers in Kaur Regency, Bengkulu. The activity participants consisted of 25 MGMP science teachers in Kaur Regency, Bengkulu. The methods used are lecture, discussion, question and answer, and demonstration methods. The intervention used was a questionnaire to measure teachers' digital literacy skills. The target achievement for this activity is that 75% of participants agree with the teacher's digital literacy skills after the training. The result was that 85% of teachers agreed that they had been able to use technology in ways such as installing, saving files, downloading videos, searching for references online, and carrying out teaching innovations with technology. The continuation of this service activity is highly hoped for, especially in remediation training and enrichment of the results of the numeracy test.

Abstract

Students who have good learning behavior will be good learners in the future. It is essential to identify the influence of educational background and parental school qualifications on students' learning behavior, which is part of the child's progress in the future. Thus, the main objective of this study is to explore the influence of educational background and parental school qualifications on students' learning behavior. This study adopted a comparative causal study with a 4 x 3 factorial design and used a purposive sampling method. The sample consisted of 430 students from educational backgrounds whose parents graduated from elementary, junior high, high school, and undergraduate, and from schools with superior, very good, and good qualifications. Exploration of educational background and parental school qualifications was carried out on the learning behavior of low-class students. Data were collected through a three-part questionnaire on parental educational background, students' school qualifications, and a learning behavior assessment scale. The results show that parental background influences students' learning behavior, but school qualifications do not. However, school qualifications can support good learning behavior changes.

Abstract

Local context-based science learning is an effective approach to improve students relevance and understanding. This research aims to reconstruct local knowledge of coastal communities related to the process of making palm sugar as a source of science learning. The research method uses a descriptive-qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and scientific literature reviews. Furthermore, the data were analyzed through triangulation to produce a scientific interpretation of the traditional practice. The results of the study indicate that the process of making palm sugar reflects the principles of sustainability, utilization of renewable energy, and natural preservation. In addition, the integration of science concepts with business and conservation aspects enriches the relevance of learning for students. It can be concluded that the reconstruction of local knowledge is able to support the preservation of local culture and ecosystems while increasing students understanding of applicable science. The contribution of this study to science is to create a sustainable learning approach, relevant to everyday life, and support the preservation of local wisdom in modern education. This integration provides new opportunities to improve scientific literacy in coastal areas by harmoniously connecting traditional knowledge and science.

Abstract

Kabau (Archidendron bubalinum (Jack) I.C. Nielsen) is a lesser-known legume native to Sumatra and surrounding regions that is widely used as food and traditional medicine, but its scientific and educational potential remains underexplored. This study presents a qualitative–descriptive literature review synthesizing ethnobotanical, phytochemical, pharmacological, and educational evidence on kabau, based on peer-reviewed national and international publications indexed in databases such as Scopus, PubMed, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library, and Google Scholar. The review shows that kabau seeds and fruit pods contain diverse secondary metabolites, dominated by phenolics, flavonoids, terpenoids, fatty acids (e.g., linoleic and palmitic acids), and sulfur-containing amino acids related to djenkolic acid. These constituents underpin strong in vitro antioxidant activity and support preliminary evidence of antidiabetic, anti-hyperuricemic, and antimicrobial effects in enzyme-based assays and animal models. Ethnobotanical data from Bengkulu and other regions document kabau as a functional food, a remedy for metabolic and digestive disorders, and a component of local cultural identity. Drawing on this evidence, the article proposes a framework for integrating kabau into biology education as a contextual learning resource across topics such as plant morphology, ecology, ethnobotany, phytochemistry, health, and STEM-based inquiry. Integrating local biological resources like kabau is argued to promote scientific literacy, critical thinking, and sustainability awareness while strengthening students’ appreciation of local biodiversity. Further field, experimental, and design-based research is needed to standardize kabau-derived products and to evaluate their effectiveness and safety, as well as their impact on learning outcomes in science education.
