Abstract

Saat ini, makanan dan minuman masih menggunakan pewarna, terutama yang terbuat dari bahan kimia sintetik. Warna produk dipengaruhi oleh penggunaan zat warna sintetik pada komponen makanan dan minuman sehingga membuat produk lebih menarik bagi konsumen. Namun penggunaan yang terus menerus akan berdampak buruk bagi kesehatan. Masyarakat, khususnya ibu-ibu PKK, harus mengetahui dengan baik tentang pewarna sintetis, risikonya, dan tindakan pencegahan keamanan untuk mengatasi masalah ini. Salah satu tindakan yang dapat dilakukan Lembaga Pengabdian Masyarakat Universitas Lampung untuk meningkatkan pemahaman ini adalah dengan melakukan penyuluhan kepada ibu-ibu PKK dan masyarakat setempat di Desa Wates, Kecamatan Bumi Ratu Nuban, Lampung Tengah, tentang risiko penggunaan pewarna sintetis pada makanan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan peserta; dengan menggunakan metode bertingkat diperoleh rata-rata peningkatan pengetahuan peserta pelatihan sebesar 50,43%, dari kelompok rendah (3,76) ke kategori sedang (7,40).

Abstract

Endophytic fungi originating from mangroves are potential sources of secondary metabolites with varying bioactivities. This research explores the bioactive metabolites produced by endophytes derived from mangrove plants. Endophytic fungi were collected from various parts of several mangrove plants (roots, stems, and leaves, as well as the surrounding mud). A total of 17 endophytics fungi were obtained. The isolates were derived from the leaves (1 isolate), stems (8 isolates), roots (5 isolates), and surrounding mud (3 isolates). A single fungal colony was cultured using solid-state fermentation for 14 days. The fermented fungal biomass was extracted using ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and evaluated for its antibacterial activity against clinical pathogenic bacteria. In the preliminary screening, the EtOAc extract of the CB07RF1 isolate exhibited notable growth-inhibitory effects against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The isolate was verified by molecular identification using a study of the rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence, revealed that isolate CB07RF1 was very similar to Fusarium equiseti (99% similarity). Isolate 20CB07RF1, obtained by solid-state fermentation using a rice medium indicated as peptide compound group, and featured active components that exhibited potent growth inhibitory activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa at a concentration of 12.5 mg/mL. This study demonstrates, for the first time, that Fusarium equiseti extracts grown in a rice medium contain antimicrobial compounds that can inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa, an important clinical pathogen known for its antibacterial resistance. These findings accent mangrove endophytic fungi as important sources of bioactive compounds and will advance related research in the fields of biotechnology, pharmacology, and life sciences.

Abstract

In this study, we conducted the extraction of silver nitrate (AgNO3) using the chemical reduction evaporation method, involving silver metal (Ag) with a molarity of 7.716 M and nitric acid (HNO3). The heating process via evaporation was carried out at 85oC for 2 hours. Subsequently, the synthesis of silver nanowires (AgNWs) was performed using a 0.3 M of AgNO3 solution in ethylene glycol (EG), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), and Iron (III) Chloride hexahydrate (FeCl36H2O). XRD analysis of the AgNO3 sample revealed an orthorhombic crystal structure with a single AgNO3 phase peak. In AgNWs, three crystalline phases were observed, with the Ag phase being the most dominant. The average crystal size of AgNO3 and AgNWs was 109.42 nm and 22.06 nm, respectively. The average crystal size of the AgNO3 sample may be influenced by the aggregation between crystal nuclei during the heating process. XRF analysis indicated a 98.84% Ag concentration in AgNO3. SEM-EDS analysis showed that the AgNO3 sample had a non-aggregated morphological structure, with particle size measuring 49.46 μm and an overall AgNO3 purity of 92.68%. The SEM image of the AgNWs sample displayed a very homogeneous diameter of ∼200 nm with a length of around 10-20 μm. Meanwhile, AgNWs exhibited a morphology resembling rod-shaped wires with a purity of 68% for Ag.

Abstract

The design and implementation of an Arduino-based temperature and speed control system for Meyer rod coating have been successfully accomplished. The tool is capable of automatically regulating the temperature and speed of the plate and Meyer rod. The components utilized in manufacturing the coating tool include Arduino Uno, stepper motor, thermocouple sensor, heating plate, relay, stepper motor driver (TB6560), and thermocouple sensor supported by the MAX-6675 module. The motivation behind developing this tool stems from the inconsistency in temperature and speed during manual Meyer rod coatings, where substrate transfer to the heater is done manually. Therefore, the purpose of this tool is to make the rod's pressure and speed stable, and the substrate does not need to move. The results of this study are that the stepper motor achieved a remarkable speed accuracy of 99%, and the thermocouple sensor exhibited an accuracy of 88.43%. Further, the time required for the heater to reach 100 °C was 09.45 minutes.

The color of the product is impacted by the use of synthetic dyes in food and beverage components, making the product more appealing to consumers. But continued usage will have a negative effect on health. The community, especially PKK women, has to be well-informed about synthetic dyes, their risks, and safety precautions in order to solve this issue. One action the University of Lampung Community Service Institute may do to raise this understanding is to counsel PKK women and the local community in Wates Village, Bumi Ratu Nuban District, Central Lampung, on the risks associated with the use of synthetic colors in food. The evaluation's findings demonstrate that this activity was successful in raising participants' knowledge levels; using the multilevel method, there was an average gain of 50.43% in trainees' knowledge, moving them from the low group (3.76) to the medium category (7.40).Keywords:, food coloring, synthetic dyes, additives

Abstract

Pewarna alami saat ini lebih sering digunakan pada makanan dan minuman.Hal ini adalah hasil dari meningkatnya penggunaan pada saat terhadinya pandemi Covid-19 untuk mengarah pada pola hidup sehat. Karena adanya senyawa antioksidan dan antibakteri, pewarna alami menawarkan manfaat dibandingkan pewarna sintetis. Tim dosen Jurusan Kimia FMIPA Universitas Lampung melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat tentang manfaat pewarna alam bagi kesehatan ibu-ibu PKK dan penduduk setempat di Desa Wates, Kecamatan Bumi Ratu Nuban, Lampung Tengah, guna menyebarkan ilmu dan informasi tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian, kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan peserta; Dengan menggunakan metode stratifikasi terlihat bahwa rata-rata pengetahuan peserta meningkat sebesar 70,33% dari kelompok rendah dengan rata-rata nilai pretes 3,80 menjadi kategori sedang dengan rata-rata nilai postes 7,32.
