Examining disaster reports in Indonesia is critical, as it provides essential insights into people perceptions and reactions to the frequent natural disasters. Disaster reports were examined through its communicative element including attitude to see the viewpoints of the newspaper towards disaster reports. The objectives of this research are to categorize attitudes, explain how attitudes are realized, and explain why attitudes are realized in disaster reporting in Indonesian newspaper, especially The Jakarta Post (TJP). Using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as the analytical framework, a qualitative method was employed. The data is analyzed using Martin and White's theory of appraisal (2005). A corpus of 14 TJP newspaper articles on Indonesian natural disasters published in 2021 is broken down into clauses denoting attitude. The results of the study indicate: 1) there are three different attitude types, with appreciation being the most prevalent and having a predominately negative polarity, 2) the attitude realization reveals that TJP is the most dominant appraiser, followed by the authorities, and 3) the realization is attributed to two themes namely self-claimed recognition and neglect of self-failure, and one tone multiple perspectives which means negative attitudes dominantly voiced by different appraisers. The themes reveal the newspaper's concealed ideology points to a narrative of critique and disillusionment, which may shape the readers' understanding of the disasters and the associated societal responses.

English learners may be influenced by culture when giving and responding to compliments. This is because they learn language through culture. In this study, tribes have different compliment response strategies. That is why cross-cultural variations cannot be ignored in terms of pragmatics. The aim of this research is to analyze the similarities and differences of compliment strategies and compliment response strategies to see the effect of culture on NJ and NNJ when giving and responding to compliments. This research is a contrastive analysis and uses qualitative methods. The data used are the answers of the participants contained in the questionnaire. The participants are 10 speakers, 5 native Javanese (NJ) and 5 non-native Javanese speakers learning English (NNJ) from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd students of English Postgraduate Program using questionnaires and interviews as research instruments. The findings of this research show that NJ and NNJ are "partly correspondence" in terms of compliment strategies and compliment responses strategies. The results of the research on compliments and responses show that NJ and NNJ use some of the same strategies but differ in the frequency of their use. Then, the research results on compliment responses show that acceptance with amendment: comment and non-acceptance: avoidance are the most frequently used by NJ, while acceptance: appreciation token is the most frequently used by NNJ. The results shows that NJ tended to adopt Javanese culture, which is characterized by "andhop ashor" or humility, while NNJ adopted Western culture, which is more expressive and direct.

As the pandemic is forcing people to stay at home for a longer period of time, activities and social interactions also moved from physical to digital world. This shift of change revealed the unfavorable nature of Indonesians’ netizen behaviors in the internet, labelled as ‘The rudest netizen’ in Southeast Asia for their ferociousness in online communication. This paper aims to investigate the perception of Indonesian internet users at the use of taboo words used in humor in intercultural online communication. Primary and secondary data were collected by observational method and qualitative descriptive method was used to present the analysis. The finding of this paper suggested that generally, 75% of the audiences on TikTok and YouTube have positive perception toward the usage of taboo words in public setting by taking context awareness, timing and intent into consideration.

Generation Z can be regarded as a generation that since they were born have grown up with the internet. The digital generation's reliance on information and communication technologies in both personal and professional affairs may be at an all-time high. Because they are "technologically proficient," they have some competitive advantages over previous generations. As a result, Gen Zers are prepared and motivated to work in a multicultural business environment, contributing to the advancement of globalization and interconnection. Without a doubt, in today's environment, the transformation of the global workforce is the most globally oriented. With globalization and technology continuing to have an impact, Gen Zers' way of thinking supports cross-cultural social engagement and communication, making bridge leadership skills and strategies increasingly more crucial for CEOs of large and small businesses.

This study aims to analyze the translation strategies used in the content localization of Agoda.com, an online travel agency website, in both English and Bahasa Indonesia. Data collection was conducted through documentation, involving screenshots of specific content on Agoda.com. The collected data were categorized according to the framework proposed by Singh et al. (2009) and analyzed using Pierini's (2007) theory on website translation strategies. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative analyses, supplemented by documentation and note-taking techniques. The findings reveal that the predominant translation strategy applied in Agoda.com’s content localization is full translation, accounting for 45% of the data samples (82 instances). This is followed by modified translation with 31.9% (58 instances), partial translation with 14.8% (27 instances), and rewritten translation with 7.7% (14 instances).

This study evaluates the strengths and limitations of ChatGPT-generated translations in academic post-editing workflows. The research highlights ChatGPT's ability to enhance translation efficiency by producing grammatically precise and structurally sound drafts, enabling post-editors to focus on higher-level refinements like coherence and contextual accuracy. While the tool demonstrates significant advantages in improving workflow efficiency and adapting texts to academic conventions, it faces challenges in addressing cultural nuances and idiomatic expressions, particularly in underrepresented languages such as Indonesian. The study suggests potential improvements, including expanding training datasets and incorporating advanced contextual understanding features, to maximize ChatGPT's utility. Ultimately, the findings emphasize the importance of combining AI capabilities with human expertise to ensure high-quality and culturally sensitive academic translations. Future research should focus on refining AI tools to meet the diverse needs of global academic communication.

This research is about communication styles in Indonesia’s television series. The research was conducted because it had an interesting and unique phenomenon in it where the characters or actors and actresses had a certain communication style, which makes it interesting to be conducted. The communication style and the way of actors in Indonesia’s Television series ‘My nerd girl’ communicate are the aims of this research. This research was descriptive qualitative research because it aimed to describe and explain in depth a case that would be researched. The data was documentation which consists of the video and transcript of Indonesia’s television series called My Nerd Girl. The data was analyzed by using theory of Miles, Huberman and Saldana, which consists of three steps: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The research results showed that the communication style found in Indonesia’s Television series ‘My nerd girl’ are into slang, bad words, positive, and negative words. Another research result revealed that the way of communication in that series is just a style of speaking or the style of communication, which means certain characters speak English naturally in some scenes.

Since many people have different cultural groups or cultural values sometimes causes misunderstandings. The research used descriptive qualitative which to investigate the different perspectives of both cultures such as the problem of misunderstanding of communication, the difference in communication styles and also to investigate the contrasting perspective in oral or written communication. The respondents of the research are Indonesian and Malaysian who took on social media YouTube. In collecting the data, the researchers used the observation with a video on YouTube and used diary notes to write the essential data of the research. The results shown that even though Malaysia and Indonesia are neighboring countries and these two countries almost have similar cultures, there are some different perspectives of understanding, especially in communication. Two aspects of communication became the issues of these two countries such as verbal communication and non-verbal communication. The different perspectives of communication style which classified into two aspects, namely verbal communication and non-verbal communication. The different perspective of verbal communication style occurs by using the words used or intonation to communicate or transfer the meaning. Meanwhile, the different perspectives of verbal communication style can be seen in the mannerism such as gestures or mimicking of people.

This study is focused on describing the horizontal communication among employees with ethnic country diversity in the communication process and examining the barriers to communication as well as efforts made by the employees in resolving horizontal communication conflicts. The data collection technique used is a focus group discussion of structured interviews with three Indonesian and three Foreign employees. The interviews were done by dividing the employees into two discussion groups according to their ethnicity to answer the same research questions. The results show that the horizontal communication process between employees is going well and needs to be influenced by the diversity of employees in terms of ethnicity. Barriers to horizontal communication between employees are communication barriers in terms of employee psychology and semantics. Efforts made by employees in overcoming horizontal communication conflicts are by compromising. However, Indonesian employees tend to make efforts to integrate the implications of this study following the results of the research, which stated that employees’ ethnic diversity did not directly affect the continuity of horizontal communication among employees in the company.

This study applied a qualitative descriptive approach that establishes the requirement that a study must be carried out on the basis of existing facts. This study aims to examine the politeness strategies used by Anies Baswedan in the interview on humanities in Southeast Asia. The source of data of this study was obtained from youtube. This research data is in the form of phrases and clauses which contained politeness strategies. The collected data is assessed using Brown and Levinson's Politeness Strategies theory to find out the types of politeness strategy and its sub-strategies. This study applies a pragmatic study. After analyzing the data, the researchers concluded that there are three types of politeness strategies found in the Interview on Humanities in Southeast Asia. These three types of politeness strategies are: Bald on record, positive politeness, and negative politeness
