Abstract

Abstract

Mycorrhiza is a biological agent to help fertility of soil and plants. Application of mycorrhiza on the land in the form of inoculum is often used in agricultural land in the name of quality of inoculum that also influenced by the content of existing spores. One of them is growing medium. This study aimed to study the effect of soil aggregate size and P dosage on the number of mycorrhizal spores in sorghum plants. The research design used was Randomized Block Design consisting of 2 factors. First factor was soil aggregate size(μm) which consisted of 4 treatments: U1 = < 2000, U2 = 500 - 1000, U3 = 200 - 500, U4 = < 200, and second factor was P dosage: 100 mg/kg and 300mg/kg. Each treatment combination was repeated 3 times so that there were 24 units of experimental unit. Observation parameters included the percentage of the infected root, number of spores, plant height and dry weight of the plant. The research was conducted in Greenhouse and Agronomy Laboratory of Agricultural Faculty of Tadulako University Palu. The various sizes of soil aggregates do not affect the amount of arbuscular mycorrhizal spores in sorghum plants. P 100 mg/kg or f P 300 mg/kg dosage used do not address the effect of the mycorrhizal spores. There is no interaction between soil aggregate size and P dosage to the amount of mycorrhizal spores in sorghum plants.

Abstract

Soil microstructure as affected by organic matter and calcium was investigated by polarising microscope examination after three months incubation and by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after one month incubation. Both polarising microscopy and SEM observations revealed an improvement of soil microstructure with the addition of cow dung and wheat straw.  Compared to the addition of dung, the straw amendment resulted in a greater microorganism diversity and lager porosity values.

Abstract

Soil structural unit distribution in seedbed tilth can affect plant growth, in part by modifying hydraulic properties and resistance of soil. The purpose of the study was to determine the early        growth and actual evapotranspiration of tomato plant as influenced by various soil aggregate sizes.      Soil bulk density, shoot and root dry matter, root length, and evapotranspiration of tomato plant grown on <0.5 mm, 0.5.0-2.0 mm, 2.0-4.0 mm, and >4 mm of aggregate sizes were determined 5 weeks       after planting.  The bulk density consistently decreased with increasing aggregate size.  Shoot dry matter in the 0.5-2.0 mm aggregate size was 3.34 g which was twice and 1.3 times greater than that in              2.0-4.0 mm and < 0.5 mm aggregate size, respectively.  Similar trend was also shown by root dry matter and root length. The root length was greatly reduced in 2.0-4.0 mm aggregate size. Actual evapotranspiration in <0.5 mm was 28.56 cm slightly higher than in 0.5-2.0 mm aggregate size.

Abstract

The distribution of soil structural units controls theavailability of oxygen, water, and the resistance to penetration by shoots and roots in seedbeds created by tillage. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of variation in soil aggregate size distribution on early growth and evapotranspiration of tomato. Fresh and dry matter of tomato, root length and evapotranspiration, determined 5 weeks after planting, were evaluated in a green house experiment with packed soil aggregates sieved from an Entisol. A complete randomized design of 3 different aggregate size distribution (<0.5; 0,5-2; and 2-4 mm) was applied. Increasing aggregate size distribution caused the fresh and dry matter of shoot and root and root length to increase corresponding to decrease in soil bulk density. The aggregate size distribution of 2-4 mm produced the most optimal Entisol structure for early growth of tomato.

Abstract

A tourist attraction that can be developed to support the community’s economy is natural resources. One of the natural resources is a river. The river as a source of water is very important in meeting the needs of society and enhancing national development. This is also intended as an implementation of the provisions of Law Number 11 of 1974 concerning irrigation, namely that in the context of utilizing and preserving rivers, it is deemed necessary to make arrangements regarding rivers which include protection, development, use, and control of rivers with government regulations. Deli River is one of the rivers in the city of Medan, which, if you look at history during the Deli kingdom, was the vein of trade. However, it is very unfortunate that at this time the existence of the Deli River was starting to be polluted by the large amount of river pollution carried out by the community. The efforts to preserve the river are carried out by Avros Park Medan, through its tourism vehicles trying to provide education to the public working with foundations concerned with the river environment. The purpose of this research is to conduct an assessment of the tourist education model that can be developed by Avros Park in an effort to preserve the environment of the Deli River and in an effort to attract tourists to visit Avros Park. The type of research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The design of the educational tourism model in this research consists of a tutorial and exploratory educational method.
