Abstract

This study examines the effects of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Inquiry learning models implemented through Lesson Study on students’ scientific literacy and science achievement. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group approach was employed. The participants consisted of 54 seventh-grade students from SMP Negeri 1 Sikur, divided into two groups: the CTL group and the Inquiry group. Data were collected using validated scientific literacy and science achievement tests. Instrument reliability was confirmed using Cronbach’s Alpha (α = 0.82). Data were analyzed using One-Way MANOVA after fulfilling normality and homogeneity assumptions. The results revealed a significant multivariate effect of the learning models on scientific literacy and science achievement (Wilks’ Lambda = 0.742, F(2, 51) = 8.85, p < 0.001, Partial η² = 0.258). Further analysis showed that the Inquiry model resulted in higher mean scores in scientific literacy (M = 84.32, SD = 4.87) and science achievement (M = 83.91, SD = 5.76) compared to the CTL model (scientific literacy: M = 82.15, SD = 5.21; science achievement: M = 80.47, SD = 6.12). These findings indicate that Inquiry learning is more effective in developing higher-order thinking skills, while CTL is effective in enhancing contextual understanding. In conclusion, the integration of CTL and Inquiry through Lesson Study provides meaningful learning experiences and significantly improves students’ scientific literacy and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Excessive use of chemical pesticides can have adverse effects on the environment, human health, and the sustainability of the agricultural sector. One viable solution is to utilize shallot skin waste as a botanical pesticide. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of Danger Village residents in processing shallot skin waste into natural pesticides to support sustainable agriculture. The methods employed included awareness-raising sessions, training, hands-on production of the botanical pesticide, and an evaluation using post-test questionnaires completed by 51 participants. The results indicated that 64.7% of participants understood the benefits of botanical pesticides, while 58.8% understood the production process. Participant satisfaction with the training was high, with an average score of 4.53 out of 5; notably, 88.2% of participants rated the training a 4 or 5. In addition to increasing participant knowledge, the activity resulted in a botanical pesticide product made from shallot skins that can serve as an alternative for natural pest control. As a follow-up measure, the service team conducted outreach across all hamlets in Danger Village to broaden the dissemination of information and encourage the continued use of botanical pesticides. This initiative demonstrates that utilizing shallot skin waste has the potential to support organic waste management and the adoption of more environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the validity of the problem-based learning thematic module to improve students' critical thinking skills. To determine the practicality of the problem-based learning (PBL) thematic module to improve students' critical thinking skills at SDN 2 Kembang Keranggara Daya on the theme of 7 events in life of grade V. To determine the effectiveness of the thematic module (PBL) to improve students' critical thinking skills at SDN 2 Kembang Keranggara Daya on the theme of 7 events in life of grade V SD/MI. This research method uses the Research and Development (R&D) development model (1) The results of the material expert validation of the problem-based learning thematic module developed by the researcher obtained a score with a "very good" category (2) The results of the student response questionnaire on the effectiveness of using the thematic module developed by the researcher obtained an overall score of 67.73 respondents and was in the range of X 63 with a "very good" category (3) The results of the student test in understanding the material in the thematic module obtained a score of 1,091 with an average of 72.73 in the complete category. The use of learning modules should encourage students to be active and learn independently, both at home and at school.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of STEAM-based Student Worksheets (LKPD) in science lessons, improving critical thinking skills of fifth-grade elementary school students. This study uses the (R&D) method with the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The trial subjects were fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 3 Borok Toyang. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, observations, and critical thinking ability tests. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the language, material, and design expert validation were 80%, 88%, and 81%, respectively, the LKPD was declared very feasible. The results of the teacher and student response questionnaires with a feasibility percentage reached 94.6% and 95.8%. The results of the effectiveness test showed a significant increase in critical thinking skills, the N-Gain value was 0.6 (60%) and classical completeness was 70%, the small group test increased to 100%. The conclusion of this study is that the STEAM-based LKPD developed is stated to be very valid, practical, and effective in improving students' critical thinking skills.
