Abstract

The development of P. aeruginosa resistance to antibiotics is increasing globally due to the inappropriate use of antibiotics. This retrospective descriptive study aimed to determine the distribution of multidrug resistant P. aeruginosa (MDRPA) and its antimicrobial sensitivity profiles. Data were taken from the bacterial identification and antibiotic sensitivity testing of clinical specimens in Aceh Provincial Referral Hospital from July 2017 to June 2019, where the VITEK® 2 Compact automatic device was used for the identification. In total, there were 307 P. aeruginosa isolates analyzed in this study. The results of this study revealed that 54.39% of P. aeruginosa isolates were multidrug resistant.  The MDRPA were mostly found in sputum and pus cultures (41.91% and 23.95%, respectively). Based on the wardroom as the source, most samples came from the internal medicine unit, intensive care unit, and surgical unit with prevalence of 27.54%, 25.74%, and 20.35%, respectively. High proportion of infected patients were male (52.09%) and aged 56–65 years (23.95%). P. aeruginosa showed the highest sensitivity rate to amikacin (77.1%), followed by meropenem (74.4%), ceftazidime (70.1%), levofloxacin (65.1%), tobramycin (64.9%), piperacillin-tazobactam (64.3%), and gentamicin (61.4%). In conclusion, our data suggest that the MDRPA infection is prevalent in Aceh Province and Amikacin is recommended as the highest standard of therapy for MDRPA.

Abstract

The collection of pus samples is crucial for identifying serious bacterial infections. Accurate identification of the pathogen and selection of the appropriate antibiotics are essential for effective treatment. This study used a descriptive retrospective method to investigate pus specimens bacterial patterns and antibiotic susceptibility at dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital in Banda Aceh in 2023. Out of 1,274 examined pus specimens, 782 yielded positive cultures, revealing 61 bacterial species, predominantly Escherichia coli (22%), Staphylococcus aureus (16%), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (9%). Gram-negative bacteria constituted 70.20% of the isolates. High antibiotic susceptibility rates were observed for Vancomycin (98%) and Linezolid (98%) in Gram-positive bacteria, while Amikacin (86%) and Meropenem (74.74%) were effective against Gram-negative bacteria. Notable resistance was found in Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (81%) and E. coli resistant to third-generation Cephalosporins (55%). These findings underscore the importance of monitoring bacterial patterns and antibiotic resistance for improved infection management at dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital, Banda Aceh.

Abstract

Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh.

Abstract

The practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), also known as female circumcision, is still maintained, especially in Aceh, despite being banned by the WHO and the government. This practice is not taught in the school, including the midwifery school, as midwives are among the healthcare providers who generally offer this service. The dynamics of policy changes and deeply rooted differences in religious and cultural views create confusion for midwives in the field, particularly given the still high demand and community encouragement. The purpose of this research was to analyse the factors influencing the implementation of female circumcision by midwives. This was a cross-sectional study with the population of midwives who were working in the Aceh Province region in 2024. The sample of this study consisted of midwives who provide female circumcision services in Aceh, with a sample size of 86 people. Statistical analysis used the Chi-Square test with the SPSS v.25 . The majority of midwives performed circumcision about 1-2 times a month, and midwives perceived circumcision as a social necessity. Midwives aged ≥ 43 years, with work experience ≥ 13 years, working for ≥ 20 years, possessing good knowledge, and having a positive attitude tended to perform risky circumcisions. The results of the statistical test indicated that there was no significant relationship between age, years of service, duration of providing female circumcision services, knowledge, attitude, and social needs regarding the implementation of female circumcision. The research results indicated that midwives in Aceh continue to practice female circumcision, with the majority performing it in a risky manner. Although midwives have positive knowledge and attitudes, social necessity factors are the main drivers in its implementation

Abstract

The problem in this study is how to implement the strategy of internalizing Islamic moral values in preventing bullying behavior at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 1 Bengkulu City. The problem that is the focus of this study uses a qualitative approach. Qualitative research is research that produces descriptive data in the form of written words. or word of mouth from people and observable behavior. The results showed that: First, the strategy of internalizing Islamic religious values in preventing bullying behavior at MI Negeri 1 Bengkulu City was carried out through academic and non-academic activities. The strategies used are exemplary strategies, habituation strategies, advice giving strategies and disciplinary strategies. Second, the prevention of bullying behavior at MI Negeri 1 Bengkulu City is to give punishments for bullying behavior. Such as punishment for memorizing selected letters, punishment for writing Yasin letters and punishment for school service. Third, the inhibiting factors from within the students themselves because of the different characters of students and from different backgrounds of students so that the coaching process carried out by teachers sometimes does not go well with students who can understand and do well the coaching and there are students who cannot carry out the coaching properly.
