Abstract

This study aims to know the effectiveness of the CTL models aided by mathematical comics and Krulik and Rudnick’s steps in problem solving to improve the ability of student’s mathematical understanding and disposition. Population in this study were VIIIA grade students up to VIIIE of SMP Negeri 1 Pulokulon year 2015/2016 with a true experimental design types posttestonly control design and samples are chosen randomly. Data analysis that used in this study were an average of completeness test, the proportion test, the average difference test, and MannWhitney test. The results showed that (1) the ability of student’s mathematical understanding of the subject that have gained CTL models aided by mathematical comics and Krulik and Rudnick’s steps in problem solving have achieved the completeness in groups and classical; (2) the ability of student’s mathematical understanding of students who have gained CTL models aided by mathematical comics and Krulik and Rudnick’s steps in problem solving more than students with expository models aided by LKS, (3) the mathematical disposition of student’s who have gained CTL models aided by mathematical comics and Krulik and Rudnick’s steps in problem solving more than students with expository models aided by LKS.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the learning completeness, problem solving ability improvement, and honesty improvement by using Project Based Learning. This research used quantitative method. The data were taken by using documentation, observation, and test. The result of the research were 1) the completeness percentage of problem solving ability of experimental class is more than 75%; 2) the problem solving ability of experimental class improved after using Project Based Learning method which was shown by: the higher average of posttest rather than the pretest, gain index showed the improvement of problem solving ability in moderate category, that was 0,66, and the average score ofproblem solving ability of experimental class was higher than the control class; 3) the improvement of students’ honesty character proved by: the higher average of postest of honesty character rather than the pretest, gain index showed improvement in honesty character that is 0,25 (low category), the average of honest character improvement of experimental is higher than the control class.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to find out the mathematical problem solving ability on learning with TAPPS model and to find out how the description of mathematical problem solving ability on TAPPS model in terms of learning style. This mixed methods research used concurrent embedded design. The population in this research was eighth-grade students of SMP N 4 Kudus in the academic year of 2016/2017. The sample was chosen by using random sampling technique, it obtained that VIIIA as experimental class and VIIIB as control class. The results of the research showed that (1) the mathematical problem solving ability on learning with TAPPS model achieved classical mastery, (2) the mathematical problem solving ability on learning with TAPPS model was better than expository model, (3) the students' ability in mathematical problem solving with a visual learning style had good category at the stage of devising a plan and the other stage had enough category, otherwise students with an auditorial learning style had enough category at the stage of looking back and another stage had good category, and students with a kinesthetic learning style had good category at the stage of understanding the problem and the other stage had enough category and less category.
