Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) examine the effectiveness of the learning probing prompting model with scaffolding strategy on mathematical creative and metacognitive thinking skills, (2) examine the effect of metacognition on mathematical creative thinking skills with probing prompting model learning with scaffolding strategy, (3) describing ability on mathematical creative thinking in terms of students' metacognition with probing prompting model learning with scaffolding strategy. This research was a mixed method type with concurrent embedded design. Population in this study were students of class VII SMP Negeri 7 Semarang in the academic year of 2017/2018. The results showed that probing prompting model learning with scaffolding strategies was effective for mathematical creative and metacognitive thinking skills. Metacognition had a positive effect on mathematical creative thinking ability by probing prompting models learning with scaffolding strategies. A student with high metacognition was able to meet four indicators maximally and perfectly, while another one met one indicator well, but for the other three indicators he is able to master well, there were only a few errors. Students with middle-metacognition ability were able to meet two indicators maximally, but cannot fulfill the other two indicators. Students with low metacognition were able to fulfill one indicator maximally and could not fulfill the other three indicators.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe mathematics literacy sill seen from SRL at students categorized high, moderate, and poor. This research was done at VII grade of SMP Negeri 13 Semarang in academic year 2018/2019. This mix method research used sequential explanatory strategy. It is a procedure to collect quantitative and qualitative data respectively. The findings showed that mathematics literacy skill of the students on each category had different indicator of mastery and when it was seen from SRL. The differences were due to they had various developments. Therefore, the learning implementation should be in line with understanding which could be achieved by students and there was a need of self-regulation of students which were supported by environment.

Abstract

This research aims to determine mathematics communication skill patterns through an E-learning-based Problem Based Learning model reviewed from learning styles. This mixed-method research applied a sequential explanatory design. The subjects consisted of 32 AMNI Maritime University Semarang students, from the transport management department, based on three learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. The data were collected using a mathematics communication skill test, learning style questionnaire, documentation, and interview. The findings showed that visual and auditory typed students' mathematics communication skills had reached accurate writing skills. They could also conclude and answer the given problems accurately. On the other hand, the visual and kinesthetic typed students could state the daily problems by writing the information. However, they were less capable of writing them into mathematics notation. The students with auditory and kinesthetic learning styles could not completely illustrate the given problems.

Abstract

The Problem Submission and Solving (JUCAMA) learning model is a learning model that is oriented towards problem submission and solving to improve students' creative thinking skills. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of ethnomathematics JUCAMA learning models and to determine the influence of the mathematical habits of mind on the creative thinking ability of students. The research method used for this research is a mixed-method using a sequential explanatory design. The population in this study were students of class VIII in Junior High School of State at Sub-District Donggo Regency of Bima which is not a One-stop Middle School and the sample is class VIII of Junior High School of State 3 Donggo. Class VIII/A is the control class and class VIII/B is the experimental class. The results was showed that the average creative thinking ability of students taught by using etnomathematics JUCAMA learning model more higher than the average thinking ability of students taught by problem-based learning. Students who are taught with the ethnomathematical JUCAMA learning model experience an increase in creative thinking skills in the medium category, while students who are taught with problem-solving learning models experience an increase in creative thinking skills in the low category based on the N-gain category. In improving the creative thinking ability, the ethnomathematics JUCAMA learning models were applied to the experimental class more effective than problem-solving learning models were applied to the control class. There is the influence of the mathematical habits of mind on the creative thinking ability of students.
