Abstract

This qualitative study examines the impact of non-formal education (NFE) in empowering rural communities by analyzing a community service program in Village A, Indonesia. Using in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, the research explores how NFE initiatives-such as vocational training, literacy classes, and entrepreneurship workshops-contribute to community development. Findings indicate that NFE programs significantly enhance participants’ skills, economic independence, and social cohesion. Women and youth, in particular, benefit from increased opportunities for self-employment and active participation in community affairs. The study also identifies several challenges, including limited resources, insufficient facilitator capacity, and fluctuating motivation among participants, which hinder program sustainability. Despite these obstacles, the research highlights the importance of participatory approaches, local relevance, and strong collaboration between facilitators and community members in achieving empowerment outcomes. The integration of local wisdom and the potential use of digital tools are suggested as strategies to improve program adaptability and reach. Overall, this study concludes that non-formal education, when contextually tailored and well-facilitated, plays a vital role in fostering sustainable community empowerment in rural Indonesia. Recommendations include enhancing resource allocation, investing in facilitator training, and leveraging technology to support and expand NFE initiatives. This research contributes to the understanding of effective community empowerment strategies and provides practical insights for policymakers, educators, and development practitioners working in similar contexts.

Abstract

Gunung Balohen Village is part of the Kebayakan sub-district, Central Aceh Regency. Most of the population make a living as coffee farmers. The livelihood of the wives of farmers is very dependent on the income of their husbands. In their food consumption, they often consume chicken meat than fish. They are only able to process chicken meat into a side dish for their daily food which of course the activities in processing this food are carried out by mothers. These women from Gunung Balohen Village have the potential to be able to live without depending on their husband's income and also have the potential to process food made from chicken meat so that the women are able to live independently without depending on their husband's income and increase family income. Given this kind of condition, there needs to be an effort to improve the economy and partners to improve skills with a touch of science and technology. For this reason, it is necessary to empower mothers, in an effort to increase knowledge and independence in life. The Community Partnership Program (PKM) in Gunung Balohen Village, Kebayakan District, Central Aceh Regency in collaboration with women is expected to help partner problems. The purpose of this Community Partnership Program is to empower the community by using science and technology to improve the skills and economic income of partners through processing chicken-based food, namely shredded chicken and being able to become a creative economic product. The method of carrying out the activities is carried out by (1) introducing processed food products made from nutritious modern chicken meat (2) training and mentoring in the manufacture of shredded chicken products (3) Product packaging training. The result of this activity is the increased knowledge and skills of partners in processing modern food made from chicken meat.

Abstract

This study analyzes the strategic motivations and challenges of Indonesia's foreign policy in its membership process in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) during the administration of President Prabowo Subianto. Indonesia views OECD membership as a crucial step to accelerate the transformation of the national economy towards developed country status by 2045 through the implementation of transparent, inclusive, and sustainable global economic governance standards. Using a qualitative approach based on an integrative literature review, this study applies theories of foreign policy analysis and rational decision-making to understand the political, economic, and strategic considerations that shape Indonesia's decision. The findings indicate that the "Prabowonomics" economic model—which emphasizes economic independence, equitable distribution of wealth, strengthening industry, and sustainable development—demonstrates strong alignment with OECD norms and objectives. Consequently, OECD membership is expected to be a key lever for increasing foreign direct investment, facilitating technology transfer, supporting structural reform efforts, and enhancing Indonesia's global competitiveness. Despite these potential benefits, the OECD membership process presents significant challenges, including the need to comply with stringent OECD regulatory standards, the potential loss of preferential trade facilities such as the United States' Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), and complex diplomatic maneuvering as Indonesia navigates its simultaneous involvement in both the BRICS and OECD frameworks. This study emphasizes the importance of domestic policy adjustments, institutional readiness, and strengthened stakeholder coordination for Indonesia to fully maximize the benefits of OECD membership. These efforts are essential to support the broader national agenda and realize the long-term vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.
