Abstract

Abstract This research aims to analyze the phenomenon of culture shock experienced by Non-KMI (Kulliyatul Mu›allimin Al-Islamiyah) students at Darussalam Gontor University (UNIDA Gontor). Non-KMI students, who come from non-Islamic boarding school backgrounds, face great challenges in adapting to an Islamic boarding school-based campus environment, where Arabic and English are used as the main languages, and high discipline is an integral part of campus life. Using an exploratory qualitative approach, this research explores the adaptation experiences of Non-KMI students by focusing on emotional, behavioral and cognitive aspects. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation related to academic and social life on campus. The research results showed that non-KMI students experienced culture shock in the form of anxiety, confusion, and changes in perception of the dominant cultural values at UNIDA Gontor. Behavioral aspects also include difficulties in adapting to congregational worship procedures and the use of Arabic in daily communication. This research identified several factors that cause culture shock, such as differences in communication patterns, lifestyle, and lack of social support from the surrounding environment. However, through effective communication strategies, such as building intercultural communication skills and increasing social interaction, Non-KMI students can adapt better to campus culture. This research provides practical insights to support the adaptation process of Non-KMI students in Islamic boarding school-based educational environments and offers suggestions for strengthening cultural orientation and cross-cultural interaction programs at universities. Abstract

This research aims to discuss framing analyses of sexual violence in NU and Suara Muhammadiyah online media. This research uses a qualitative research method with Robert Etnman's framing analysis approach. Robert Etnman's framing analysis method is used to see how a media constructs reality and to see that news is understood and framed before being presented to the public with four elements, namely: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgments, and make treatment recommendations. Based on the results of the analysis using four elements of framing by Robert Etnman, the framing carried out by online media NU and Suara Muhammadiyah regarding reporting on sexual violence explains the causes, effects, triggers, and handling of sexual violence. The online media NU and Suara Muhammadiyah framed the news by looking for informants who could provide a number of facts and testimonies regarding sexual violence. NU online news framing emphasizes that sexual violence is an evil intention that is contrary to religion, morals, and education, which must be opposed and prevented. Suara Muhammadiyah's news framing emphasizes Islamic teachings that sexual violence has harmed Islamic educational institutions, which prioritize compassion.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how Islamic boarding schools implement communication strategies in dealing with the issue of sexual violence by focusing on two main dimensions, namely personification and adaptation. This study uses a qualitative case study method, this study collects data through in-depth interviews with Islamic boarding school policy makers, as well as documentation analysis related to the communication strategies implemented. The results of the study indicate that the personification dimension plays an important role in building public trust, where Islamic boarding school leaders act as representatives of the institution in conveying consistent and credible narratives. Meanwhile, the adaptation dimension allows flexibility in communication strategies, including the use of digital media, the involvement of religious figures, and discussion-based approaches to reduce the potential for conflict escalation. The conclusion of this study confirms that the combination of strong leadership and appropriate adaptability is key to maintaining the legitimacy and reputation of Islamic boarding schools in the midst of an external crisis. These findings contribute to the development of a crisis communication model for religious-based institutions, especially in facing social challenges in the digital era.
