Abstract

Recurring organizational communication problems, lack of communication between superiors and subordinates, and also conflict at the employee level make the basis for researchers to conduct research and try to provide recommendations to improve conditions that occur in the Balittas organization. This study will focus on quality of relationships between superiors and subordinates as well as colleagues in organization. This study aims to describe and analyze the quality of the relationship between superiors and subordinates. This research was conducted using the Action Research method with the aim of being in Balittas from 2010 to 2019. Departing from the constructivism paradigm, this study carried out data collection by structured interviews and analyzed using the action research cycle from Coghland & Brannick. The quality of the relationship between superiors and subordinates, between colleagues for each period of each leader based on the LMX theory is dominated by the quality of the out group. This is because the relationship is only a contractual one. Subsequent research can develop the application of LMX theory in other government work units and create efforts to build quality in group relationships within Balittas. Based on LMX theory (low relationship quality) because the exchange of behavior of organizational members is limited to contractual ties and the low level of support and trust in each other.

Abstract

Indonesia is famous for the amazing diversity of woven fabrics, so it has a special place in the hearts of its people. This diversity of woven fabrics is also owned by the people of Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province. The type of woven fabric that is well-known in the Sikka Regency area is ikat woven fabric (Tallo, 2003). In general, the ikat woven fabrics of Sikka Regency can be distinguished based on gender, namely the women's woven ikat cloth which in Sikka-Krowe language is called utan and the male woven ikat cloth called ragi or lipa. One of the women's ikat cloth (utan) originating from Sikka Regency, namely the Lian Lipa utan. However, the existence of the Lian Lipa utan is still unknown to some people in Sikka Regency, especially related to symbols, such as the motifs on the woven cloth. Apart from symbols, other factors such as norms, social status, traditions and community beliefs attached to this forest are also not widely known. Thus, an in-depth study is needed to be able to answer the overall symbolic meaning of the Lian Lipa utan, namely through a hermeneutic phenomenological approach. Thus, this study aims to determine the hermeneutics of the woven ikat (utan) Lian Lipa. The research methodology used is a qualitative method and the data collection techniques are observation, in-depth interviews and document studies. Through a hermeneutic phenomenological approach by using the Symbolic Interaction Theory of George Herbert Mead and Herbert Blumer, the results of his research show that the hermeneutics of the ikat cloth motif basically comes from the mindset and process of social interaction that has taken place since ancient times.

Abstract

This research has an interpretive social science paradigm which implies an exploratory form. The purpose of the study was to find out various potential efforts carried out by the management of the Barokah Village Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) as an environmental communication strategy for conserving the Sira Springs in Putukrejo, Malang Regency. The research data collection method was a combination of in-depth interviews, partisan field observations, and documentation. Analysis of research data is descriptive-qualitative and uses interactive analysis techniques as a reference. Application of triangulation includes size, time, and observer. The technique of collecting informant data is purposively against representatives of village government apparatus, BUMDes administrators, and managers of springs. The study results reveal that the environmental communication strategy of BUMDes Barokah as an effort to preserve Sira springs is currently achieving a Strengthening Strategy as Focht’s preposition strengthened by Tyson & Unson (2006). This is due to the decreasing controversy among them and the relatively high level of public and scientific consensus that has been achieved since the beginning of Sira resource management through the establishment of BUMDes. This strengthening strategy is mainly through Word of Mouth, special performances or events, and mass communication and new media involving the participation of the local community. They also relatively understand the axioms of environmental communication as explained by Jurin, Roush, & Danter (2010) in their daily practice. The potential efforts of the BUMDes Barokah management, together with the work unit groups under its auspices and the Putukrejo village community, which are closely related to local characteristics, are densely discussed in this article.
