Abstract

AbstractSelf-regulation is considered as one of the success key for students. Self-regulation process involves one’s activities to produce thoughts, feelings, and actions, to plan and continuously to adapt in order to achieve the targeted goals. This study aims to describe the experiences of best students in self-regulating themselves, particularly in improving their achievement as a student as endorsed by the university. Two students who won the Best Students Competition held by a university had participated in this study. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used in this study. Data was collected using interview and subsequently were analyzed using the transcendental phenomenological method. The study focused on finding meaning and understanding the selfregulatory process of students in pursuing their academic achievement. The findings showed that self-regulation was defined as having an integrated thoughts, feelings, and actions, continuously, and targeted in pursuing the achievement. Self-regulation was a process in guiding self towards a holistic person, academically (to be a best student), socially (to be a good child as well as a good sister), and existentially (to be a useful person).

Abstract

This article reports development of new scale to measure entrepreneurial characters. Entrepreneurial Characters Scale (SK-WIRA) measures personality traits indicating a person’s capacity to engage in entrepreneurial activity and can be used to study tendency and suitability to work as entrepreneur. In preliminary study, entrepreneurial character is operationalized based on concepts found in literatures: achievement motivation, innovativeness, risk taking, and autonomy. Four SK-WIRA subscales were constructed according to those dimensions. In phase 1 item selection, exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis were applied. Initial set of SK-WIRA constituted of 40-48 items per subscale was administered to university students (N = 130). It is found that items were not clustered based on the theory, but item types (favorable-unfavorable). Therefore, it is predicted that entrepreneurial characters and non-entrepreneurial characters are probably two different constructs and need to be measured using different tools. Final compilation of SK-WIRA consists only 22 items (all is favorable items) with good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = .863). Phase 2 construct validity test using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirms that SK-WIRA consists of four correlated factors. The examination of scale internal structure shows good model fit (c2/df = 244.077/205; RMSEA = .038; CFI = .943; TLI = .936; SRMR = .069).

Abstract

This article reports on the effort to test psychometric properties of the revised version of Skala Karakter Wirausaha (SK-Wira). The research aims to clarify the scale’s internal structure by examining its construct validity. Construct validity is proven through confirming the internal structure and associating the scale with relevant variables. Revised version of SK-Wira and other measures were administered to university students in Magelang and Makassar (N = 598). After completing CFA, Study 1 confirmed that SK-Wira can be used as both multidimensional scale (model 1) to measure general entrepreneurial character, and unidimensional scales (model 2) to measure specific domains separately. Both models showed good fit. In Study 2, general and specific domains of entrepreneurial character were correlated with hope of success, fear of failure, openness to experience, neuroticism, entrepreneurial intention, and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. The results accepted all proposed hypotheses. In conclusion, SK-Wira is a valid instrument to measure entrepreneurial character for psychology of entrepreneurship research.

Abstract

Low literacy within Muslim families can seriously affect developing individuals and society. This study aims to test the effectiveness of a new model of Islamic parenting based on family religiousness to address the low literacy issue in Muslim families. Using a mixed-method with triangulation design, in Study 1, researchers conducted action research by delivering a six-session parent training program to 10 women with children aged 11 years old, grouped into high and low-literate families. Practice at home, guided by facilitators, followed each session. Data were collected using interviews and parents’ reflection journals and were analyzed using content analysis. In Study 2, concurrently with Study 1, a quasi-experimental research was conducted using a one-group pre-test and post-test design to test the model’s effectiveness. Before and after the programs, the researchers administered the Family Literacy Questionnaire to the women and the Literacy Activity Questionnaire to their children. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to examine differences between pre-test and post-test scores. The program was perceived as impactful and highly appreciated by the participants, who expected its continuation in the future. The hypothesis test results indicated that the Islamic parenting model improved family literacy (p=0.043) and the literacy activities of their children (p=0.039). The Islamic parenting model effectively enhanced women’s family literacy in low literacy groups and children’s literacy activity in both groups. This finding can be widely implemented to provide parents with understanding and skills to support their children’s literacy.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship needs to be based on self-efficacy and careful career planning. Self-efficacy is defined as a person's belief about the ability to produce a specified level of performance in influencing their lives. Career planning is an activity or action to achieve career goals in accordance with the career direction that will be pursued including aspects of self-understanding, decision making, exploring, and preparing to enter the world of entrepreneurship. It is hypothesized that self-efficacy, both general self-efficacy and entrepreneurial self-efficacy, influence career planning in the field of entrepreneurship in adolescents. This study aims to test this hypothesis by conducting a survey involving 50 adolescents aged 15-18 years in Magelang. Data collection was carried out through online questioner consisting of the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Entrepreneurial Career Planning Scale. Data analysis was carried out using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis using SPSS 25. As a result, there is an influence of independent variables both simultaneously and individually on the dependent variable (R = .913; R 2 = .834; F(2, 56) = 140.634; p <.00). The contribution of self-efficacy to career planning in the field of entrepreneurship is quite high, namely 83.4% indicating the importance of this variable. It is suggested that schools develop entrepreneurship education programs that strengthen skills, but also the self-efficacy so that adolescents has confidence in their capability to do entrepreneurship.

Abstract

The need for autonomy is how the individual thinks that his behaviour comes from himself without being influenced by others. The formation of autonomy was influenced by seven aspects, namely freedom, initiative, self-confidence, responsibility, self-assertiveness, decision-making, and self-control. The purpose of this study is to determine the validity and reliability of the scale of autonomy needs that are made. This article also to explain specifically about the need for autonomy because there are not many articles that explain about autonomy needs of student. This research involved 92 students from various cities and universities to become subjects. The questionnaire consists of 60 items designed to assess aspects of freedom, initiative, self-confidence, responsibility, self-assertiveness, decision-making and self-control. This questionnaire has five alternative answers, namely 1 for "Strongly Disagree", 2 for "Disagree", 3 for "Somewhat Agree", 4 for "Agree", and 5 for "Strongly Agree". The results of this study indicate that it takes three rounds to find the level of validity and reliability on this scale with Cronbach's alpha of 0.937 and the number of items as many as 22 item. This research is expected to provide insight regarding the need for autonomy and it is hoped that research on the scale of this need for autonomy can be further developed in subsequent studies.
