Abstract

Nobita Hill, a tourist site in Padang City, is undergoing development as a tourist destination that offers a bird's-eye view of Padang City. Unfortunately, the hilly topography with steep slopes increases the risk of landslides in this area. In order to address the problem, the community service team from the Physics Department of Andalas University has carried out a six-month community service program from July to December 2022. It focused on disaster awareness education and used a qualitative approach. This activity aims to socialize disaster mitigation efforts, especially those related to landslides and earthquakes, considering that Padang City is also prone to earthquakes. The results of this activity showed an increase in the knowledge of the local community after the socialization, but repeated activities are needed to achieve optimal results. This ongoing activity is essential to ensure continuous improvement in the community's understanding of disaster mitigation and to support efforts to make Bukit Nobita a disaster-resilient area. Thus, this activity makes a positive contribution to shaping a safe, sustainable, and disaster-resilient tourism environment.

Abstract

Air quality is influenced by activities that produce gas from natural and human sources, so monitoring gas levels is important to prevent health threats. The goal is to create a natural gas monitoring tool that is efficient (easy to use) and can be accessed from a smartphone. The tool designed uses MQ-2 and MQ-6 sensors for detecting gas levels and DHT11 sensors for temperature and humidity. Data is sent in real-time on the smartphone via the Blynk application with the nRF24L01+ module. The results showed that the system worked well in monitoring butane, methane, temperature, and humidity. The highest error value on the MQ-2 sensor is 24.375%. Methane gas measurements using the MQ-6 sensor show the highest error value of 11.06%. The nRF24L01+ module successfully sends data to the receiver and activates the Light Emitting Diode (LED) and buzzer when the value exceeds the set limit. This module can send data up to a distance of 1000 meters without Line-of-Sight (LOS) obstructions and has a reduced distance of up to 600 meters in the presence of Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) obstructions. The Blynk application successfully displays data measuring gas levels, temperature and humidity.

Abstract

Food safety is a crucial aspect in meeting people's nutritional needs. Formalin, a dangerous preservative, is often used illegally to extend the shelf life of foodstuffs, posing serious risks to consumer health. This research develops a portable technology for rapid detection of formaldehyde in foodstuffs. The method utilizes the interaction between UV light and the concentration of formaldehyde in a sample treated with Schiff reagent, enabling the measurement of UV uptake proportional to formaldehyde concentration. The Schiff reagent reacts with formalin to produce a colored compound whose absorbance is measured to detect and quantify formalin in the sample. The designed optical system focuses on measuring the intensity of light from a UV LED source, which is then transmitted through the sample. The successfully transmitted light intensity is converted into an electrical signal by the GY-ML8511 sensor, which is then processed by the NodeMCU ESP8266 to display the concentration of formalin on the LCD screen. This research also analyzes the sensitivity and selectivity of the GY-ML8511 sensor to evaluate its performance and reliability in detecting formaldehyde, with the ultimate goal of improving food safety through innovative detection technologies, such as the use of biosensors and advanced spectroscopy. This technology contributes to existing solutions by enabling rapid and accurate detection at various stages of food production, thereby reducing the risk of contamination and improving compliance with food safety standards

Abstract

Cooling technology plays an important role in daily life, particularly in refrigerators used for storing fruits, vegetables, and beverages. However, conventional cooling systems still use freon, which can damage the ozone layer. This study utilizes the Peltier Effect on the Peltier TEC 12706 module as an environmentally friendly cooling component. The DHT22 sensor is used to measure temperature and humidity, while the NodeMCU ESP8266 processes sensor data displayed through the Blynk application. Three fans are installed outside the cooling chamber to prevent the Peltier module from overheating, and one fan is placed inside the chamber for air distribution. A heatsink is used to assist in heat dissipation. Testing compared the DHT22 sensor with AZ HT-02 and FY-11, producing regression values of R² = 0.9902 for temeprature and R² = 0.9798 for humidity, indicating high accuracy. Using two Peltier TEC 12706 modules and a 12 V 30 A AC-DC adapter, the temperature in the cooling chamber with dimensions (26x17x10) cm was reduced to 19.6°C, with humidity rising to 90.1% within 2 hours. These results show that the developed cooling system can function effectively.

Abstract

Nagari Sunua Barat memiliki potensi limbah sabut kelapa hasil perkebunan kelapa yang melimpah. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan kelompok tani di Nagari Sunua Barat melalui pelatihan pengolahan limbah sabut kelapa menjadi cocopeat dan cocofiber, yang lebih memiliki nilai ekonomis dan ramah lingkungan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilakukan oleh tim dari Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam, dimulai dengan tahap perencanaan yang melibatkan mitra kelompok tani untuk mengidentifikasi kebutuhan dan potensi yang ada pada mitra. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 47 peserta yang berasal dari kelompok tani dan masyarakat yang ada di Nagari Sunua Barat. Peserta diajarkan tentang pengelolaan sampah limbah sabut kelapa, yang dimanfaatkan menjadi cocopeat dan cocofiber. Metode yang digunakan meliputi demonstrasi, praktik langsung, dan diskusi interaktif. Hasil dari kegiatan menunjukkan antusiasme yang tinggi dari peserta. Sebagian besar mampu memahami dan mempraktikkan teknik yang diajarkan, dengan beberapa peserta mulai memproduksi cocopeat dan cocofiber untuk keperluan pribadi maupun komersial. Pelatihan ini berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya pengelolaan limbah yang berkelanjutan serta memberikan peluang ekonomi baru bagi kelompok tani. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi langkah awal untuk menjadikan Nagari Sunua Barat sebagai sentra pengolahan limbah sabut kelapa, sekaligus mendorong terciptanya masyarakat yang lebih peduli lingkungan dan mandiri secara ekonomi

Abstract

The fashion industry in Indonesia significantly contributes to the country’s creative economy. However, public knowledge about various types of fabric materials is still limited, often leading to fraud. This research aims to develop a device that can classify fabric materials based on their structure using computer vision techniques. The device uses a digital microscope endoscope magnifier 1600x USB camera to capture fabric structure images and the YOLOv8 algorithm to classify 17 types of fabric materials from 1,700 raw image data. The research methodology includes collecting fabric image datasets, preprocessing data, and training the YOLOv8 model. The results show that the YOLOv8 model achieves an accuracy of 98%. The classification results are displayed on an LCD connected to NodeMCU ESP8266. System testing shows that the device effectively classifies fabric materials, sends the results to the database via API, and displays the results on the LCD. Overall, this device provides an effective solution for distinguishing types of fabrics and preventing fraud in fabric purchases.

Abstract

Electricity is essential for everyday needs, including food preservation through refrigeration. However, access to electricity remains uneven in remote regions due to geographical constraints. Solar energy offers a promising alternative, especially in areas with abundant sunlight, highlighting the need for compact, portable, and eco-friendly cooling system. This study aims to design an eco-friendly cooling system using the Seebeck Effect in Peltier TEC 12706 modules powered by solar energy. The system consists of two Peltier TEC 12706 modules, a 50 Wp solar panel, and a 33 Ah accumulator, with a cooling chamber measuring 26 × 17 × 10 cm. Temperature and humidity were remotely monitored via the Blynk application. Experimental results showed the lowest temperature achieved was 15°C between 08:00 AM and 10:00 AM. In comparison, the most significant temperature drop of 11.7°C occurred between 12:00 PM and 02:00 PM, with an average light intensity of 176,846.15 Lux. Although the system demonstrated cooling performance, the minimum temperature of 15°C does not meet the standard refrigeration temperature of around 0°C. Therefore, the current system is not yet suitable for replacing conventional refrigerators, but it shows potential as an environmentally friendly alternative cooling solution with further development.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan di Nagari Persiapan Lubuk Gadang Tenggara, Solok Selatan, yang sebagian besar wilayahnya berada dalam kawasan Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat (TNKS). Masyarakat menghadapi persoalan mendasar berupa ketidakjelasan status hukum kawasan, lemahnya kelembagaan lokal, terbatasnya akses terhadap hasil hutan bukan kayu, serta defisit kepercayaan terhadap otoritas konservasi. Untuk menjawab tantangan tersebut, digunakan metode Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) melalui pemetaan sosial, diskusi kelompok terarah, dan fasilitasi dialog multipihak. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa forum partisipatif mampu mengidentifikasi potensi lokal, memperkuat kebutuhan pembentukan Kelompok Tani Hutan (KTH) dan Forum Nagari Konservasi (FNK), serta membuka ruang negosiasi yang lebih adil antara masyarakat dan TNKS. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya komunikasi deliberatif dan kemitraan konservasi yang inklusif, agar konservasi tidak hanya melindungi ekosistem tetapi juga meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan perancangan dan pengaplikasian mikrokontroler AT89S52 sebagai pengontrol sistem pengusir burung pemakan padi dengan bunyi sirine. Peralatan  ini menggunakan cahaya laser dan LDR (light dependent resistor) sebagai sistem sensor untuk mendeteksi kehadiran burung dan bunyi sirine untuk mengusir burung. Pemrograman menggunakan bahasa C sebagai  perangkat lunak untuk sistem mikrokontroler AT89S52. Mikrokontroler AT89S52 digunakan untuk mengontrol sistem secara keseluruhan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa burung dapat diusir dengan bunyi sirine yang diatur selama 30 detik dan jarak maksimum cahaya laser yang mampu ditangkap oleh sensor LDR adalah 110 meter .

Abstract

Temperatur dan kelembaban relatif merupakan dua hal penting dalam meningkatkan efektifitas kerja dalam ruangan.  Salah satu sensor yang dapat membaca temperatur dan kelembaban relatif adalah modul sensor SHT11. Sensor SHT11 dimanfaatkan pada proses kendali yang dijalankan oleh mikrokontroler ATMega8535 dengan motor dc sebagai pengeksekusi. Sensor SHT11 membaca temperatur dan kelembaban relatif dengan faktor koreksi t = t + 1 dan rh = rh + 25 dengan respon waktu 50 ms dan error untuk temperatur 2,26% dan untuk kelembaban relatif 4,03%. Temperatur dan kelembaban relatif di luar ruangan dimanfaatkan untuk membuka dan menutup ventilasi dengan pengendalian temperatur yang lebih besar 27 oC dan kelembaban relatif yang lebih besar dari 40%. Buka tutup ventilasi menggunakan motor dc dan  driver L293D untuk logika arah gerakan motor dc. Hasilnya didapatkan sebuah rancang bangun buka tutup ventilasi agar temperatur dan kelembaban relatif yang nyaman terpenuhi dalam suatu ruangan.
