Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) the pattern, level and status of physical activity, (2) differences in the level of physical activity based on the construct status of the health belief model and (3) the relationship between physical activity status and the construct status of the health belief model in the people of the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This research is a cross-sectional observational survey research on the DIY community as many as 390 people using convenience sampling technique with online questionnaire. Physical activity is measured using the Global Physical activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) which calculates the metabolic equivalent of task (MetS) per week, while the health belief model construct is measured using the adaptation instrument from the COVID-19 snapshoot and monitoring (COSMO-WHO). The pattern of physical activity is seen by the level of physical activity in three domains (work, transport and leisure or recreation). The difference in the level of total physical activity in the construct of health belief model uses kruskall-wallis, while the relationship between physical activity status and constructs in health belief is tested by using chi square with a confidence level of 5%. The results of this study indicate that the physical activity pattern of the DIY community is dominated by recreational activities, with an average of 868.37 Mets / week, followed by the work domain with an average of 521.28 Mets / week and the transport domain with an average of 233.54 Mets / week. People who fall into the category of moderate physical activity status are 71%. DIY people who have a high level of HBM status tend to have sufficient physical activity status with a sig value of 0,000 in all constructs. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between the HBM construct and the physical activity status in the new normal era in the DIY community with high HBM status, so they will have a better level of physical activity status than those who have low HBM status, with a correlation value of 0.89 which meaning very strong.

Abstract

This study aimed to study the correlation between physical activity level and social-cognitive process based on gender among adolescents. This study carried out a cross-sectional survey involving 94 adolescents in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia (54.3% male, average 14±3 years). Physical activity level was assessed using the Physical Activity Questionnaire-Adolescent Questionnaire (PAQ-A). Social cognitive processes (including self-efficacy, outcome expectation, and self-regulation) were assessed using the Self-Efficacy for Exercise, the Multidimensional Outcome Expectations for Exercise, and the Self-Regulation Scales. Mann-Whitney test was used to compare physical activity levels and social-cognitive processes between males and females. Spearman correlation test was used to assess the association between physical activity level and social-cognitive process based on gender. The results of the study indicated no differences in the physical activity levels between male and female adolescents. Self-efficacy and outcome expectation did not correlate with physical activity level. In contrast, self-regulation was correlated with physical activity in male (r=0.279, p=0.048) and female (r=0.444, p=0.003) adolescents. The results indicate that self-regulation is the most important social-cognitive process determining physical activity level. For this reason, improving self-regulation skills is vital to promote physical activity levels among adolescents.

Abstract

Background Problems: Histology is a critical component of the sports science curriculum, as it thoroughly explains the connection between the structure and function of cells, tissues, and organs. Research Objective: This study investigates the improvement of histology learning among sports science students by employing a functional approach and practical sessions with virtual microscopy. Methods: The study adopted a quasi-experimental design with 103 students from the Sports Science program, enrolled in a histology course with two parallel classes. The students were divided into experimental (n = 56) and control groups (n = 46) using cluster random sampling based on their classes. The experimental group received instruction using virtual microscopy, while the control group was taught using light microscopy throughout the semester. Both groups were assessed on their learning outcomes at the end of the semester through a written exam. Experimental group students also provided feedback on the courses. Using the independent t-test, the learning outcomes were compared between groups. Students’ feedback was analysed descriptively. Findings and Results: The results revealed that the average test scores for participants in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (74.9 ± 7.8 and 68.9 ± 9.6, respectively). Student feedback indicated that the majority concurred that the functional approach to histology teaching enhanced their understanding of histological structures. They also noted that practical virtual microscopy sessions improved their comprehension of the topics studied. Additionally, nervous tissue was identified as the most challenging tissue to learn, primarily due to visualisation difficulties in relating microscopic and macroscopic structures and the abundance of new terminology to remember. Conclusion: The findings suggest that combining a functional approach with virtual microscopy notably enhances the quality of histology education, equipping sports science students with a comprehensive understanding and essential practical skills for their academic and professional development.

Abstract

Background: Transplantation provides near-normal life and excellent rehabilitation compared to dialysis and is the preferred method of treating end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of anesthesia management from 20 cases of live renal transplants carried out between August 2017 and April 2019 at Dr. Sardjito Central General Hospital, Yogyakarta. The subjects ' preoperative patient status, anesthesia management, and postoperative care were assessed. Results: Most patients had preoperative anemia, normal serum potassium, serum creatinine, and average ejection fraction. Anesthesia management began 24 hours before surgery, in which the patients were hospitalized, had peripheral IV access and fluid maintenance, and hemodialysis, followed by premedication 1 hour before surgery. Before surgery, anesthesia induction and intubation were done, followed by maintenance of anesthesia and intraoperative monitoring. Postoperative care consisted of the administration of analgesia and management of complications. Conclusion: Optimization of preoperative status, proper anesthesia management, and good postoperative care are keys to a successful renal transplant program.

Abstract

Introduction: Increasing physical activity levels in middle-aged and older adults is a critical public health agenda, as regular physical activity reduces morbidity, healthcare costs, and chronic disease risks by up to 90%. Developing effective physical activity programs, however, requires comprehension of factors influencing physical activity behavior. Aims: This research aimed to develop a predictive model of social cognitive influences on moderate and vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in this demographic. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 118 participants, 76% of whom were female. Social cognitive factors, which included self-efficacy, outcome expectations (physical, social, and self-evaluation), self-regulation (goal setting and planning), and social support (from family and friends) regarding physical activity, were assessed using validated self-reported questionnaires. A 7-day Physical Activity Recall interview was conducted to measure MVPA. Data were analyzed using bivariate correlations and stepwise multiple linear regressions, adjusted for sex and age. Results: All social cognitive measures showed moderate to strong correlations with MVPA (r = 0.43-0.79). The regression model, which included self-efficacy, physical outcome expectations, planning, and social support, explained 77% of the variance in MVPA. Conclusion: These results highlight the importance of strengthening these social cognitive factors to encourage more physically activity among middle-aged and older adults in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Stroke is a cerebrovascular disease that can cause physical and cognitive impairments, including a high risk of depression. Medication adherence plays a crucial role in preventing complications and improving patients' quality of life. Objective: This study aims to describe the therapy and evaluate medication adherence among post-stroke outpatients in the recurrent and non-recurrent stroke groups at RSUD Taman Husada Kota Bontang. Methods: This study employs a cross-sectional design, involving a total of 152 patients, consisting of 119 non-recurrent stroke patients and 33 recurrent stroke patients. Data were collected through interviews, secondary data retrieval from medical records, and primary data obtained from the MMAS-8 (Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8) questionnaire to assess medication adherence levels. Data were analyzed descriptively, and a chi-square test was performed to examine the association between medication adherence and stroke recurrence. Results: The findings indicate that both recurrent and non-recurrent stroke groups were prescribed antiplatelet, anticoagulant, neuroprotective, and antihypertensive drugs. Additionally, lower medication adherence was more frequently observed in recurrent stroke patients compared to non-recurrent stroke patients (24% vs. 26%). Analysis of the MMAS-8 questionnaire items revealed that forgetting to take medication occurred in both groups, but was more common among non-recurrent stroke patients (23% vs. 9%). Conclusion: This study highlights the need for continuous monitoring of therapy profiles and efforts to improve medication adherence to prevent further complications in post-stroke patients. The findings emphasize the importance of ongoing evaluation and innovative medication education for post-stroke patients.
