Abstract

Critical thinking skills are important for students to have when facing the challenges of the 21st century. This skill can help students overcome problems in the real world, one of which is the problem of environmental change. This research is qualitative with a descriptive approach, to evaluate the critical thinking abilities of students in class X SMA Negeri 3 Tanjung Raja on environmental change material. The number of research subjects was thirty. The critical thinking ability test consists of five questions that refer to five indicators: providing simple basic explanations, building basic skills, drawing conclusions, providing further explanations, and organizing strategies and tactics. The results showed that participants had a low level of critical thinking, especially in terms of indicators of concluding.

Abstract

Based on the results of observations at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (State Islamic Senior High School) 1 Palembang, it was found that there were problems in learning biology; namely, the daily test scores for class XI science 2, semester 1 for the 2021/2022 around 30% of students have scored above the minimum completeness criteria (MCC) and the learning outcomes of school year 2020/2021 it shows only 29% or nine students out of 31 students achieve scores above the MCC. This research aims to improve student's learning outcomes in class XI science 2 using the discovery learning model. This type of research is called classroom action research (CAR) and consists of two cycles. The results showed that applying the discovery learning model can improve students' learning outcomes. The learning outcomes of the knowledge domain in the first cycle obtained a percentage of students' completeness of 53.33% (average value was 68). In contrast, in the second cycle, there was an increase in students' completeness of 83.33% (average value was 81). Applying the discovery learning model implemented at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Palembang, can improve learning outcomes. The increased learning outcomes were accompanied by increased student activity in asking, answering, and discussing. The percentage of learning outcomes in the first cycle of cognitive aspects from 53.33% of students who obtained a score above the MCC with an average score of 68 increased by 83.33% with an average score of 81 in Cycle II.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze teachers’ needs in developing project-based learning (PjBL) modules to address students’ learning requirements on the topic of viruses. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya Selatan, SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya, SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara, and SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Raja. Data were collected through documentation and interviews, and analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings reveal that the application of PjBL in teaching virus-related material remains suboptimal. Teachers face several challenges, including: (1) difficulties in understanding and designing teaching modules; (2) uncertainty in selecting appropriate learning models; and (3) continued reliance on manually created, non-digital modules. From the students’ perspective, challenges include: (1) being required to study independently with minimal support; (2) limited engagement in practical or hands-on activities; and (3) low motivation due to the predominance of lecture-based instruction. In light of these findings, the study suggests the development of electronic project-based teaching modules using the Kodular application as a solution to enhance students’ critical thinking skills and provide more meaningful and engaging learning experiences.

Abstract

Permasalahan konsumsi pangan bergizi di masyarakat pedesaan sering kali disebabkan oleh minimnya literasi gizi serta keterbatasan pengetahuan dalam mengolah bahan pangan lokal. Desa Sirah Pulau Padang, yang memiliki potensi besar dalam budidaya ikan patin (Pangasius sp.), masih belum mengoptimalkan komoditas ini sebagai konsumsi rumah tangga. Masyarakat lebih cenderung menjual hasil budidaya ketimbang memanfaatkannya untuk kebutuhan gizi keluarga. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat, khususnya ibu rumah tangga, tentang nilai gizi ikan patin sekaligus membekali mereka dengan keterampilan mengolah ikan menjadi produk olahan bernilai tambah, yaitu nugget ikan patin. Metode kegiatan menggunakan pendekatan edukatif-partisipatif melalui penyuluhan, demonstrasi, dan praktik langsung (learning by doing). Materi mencakup pengenalan kandungan gizi ikan patin, seperti protein dan omega-3, serta teknik pengolahan nugget dari tahap persiapan hingga penggorengan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman peserta terhadap manfaat ikan patin serta keterampilan dalam proses pengolahan. Peserta menyatakan antusiasme dan mengakui manfaat kegiatan dalam membuka peluang usaha baru serta menyediakan pangan bergizi untuk keluarga. Kegiatan ini terbukti mampu meningkatkan literasi gizi, memperkuat ketahanan pangan keluarga, serta memberdayakan peran perempuan dalam pembangunan desa melalui pemanfaatan sumber daya lokal.

Abstract

Indonesia is the world's largest palm oil producer, but this industry presents environmental challenges such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, and pollution. Enhancing students’ environmental literacy, particularly those living near oil palm plantations, is key in fostering ecological awareness. This study aims to analyze students' environmental literacy levels based on gender and grade level at Puspita Senior High School, South Sumatra. This research employs a descriptive design using a survey method with an environmental literacy questionnaire measuring knowledge and attitudes toward environmental issues. The study involved 244 students categorized by gender and grade level. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques and the Kruskal-Wallis test to determine differences in environmental literacy across variables. The findings indicate that students’ overall environmental literacy is very good, with an average score of 54.36. There is no significant difference in environmental literacy between male and female students, although females scored slightly higher in attitude. Similarly, no significant difference was found based on grade level. Factors such as an inclusive curriculum, uniform learning experiences, and students' residential environment near oil palm plantations are believed to contribute to these findings. In conclusion, students living near oil palm plantations exhibit high environmental literacy, with no significant differences based on gender or grade level. These results highlight the importance of equitable environmental education in fostering ecological awareness among young generations.

Abstract

Life in the 21st century demands graduates who can think critically, innovate, collaborate, communicate, and face the changes that occur in the global world. The demands of 21st-century learning have implications for complex learning processes, requiring students' critical thinking skills. This research aims to determine the effect of electronic worksheets (e-worksheets) assisted by bioinformatics integrated with the problem-based learning (PBL) learning model to improve students' critical thinking skills at SMA Muhammadiyah Palembang. The type of research that will be used is Research & Development research. This research is the final stage of the 4D development model. The population of this research was Muhammadiyah High Schools 1, 5, and 6 in the city of Palembang (accreditation A), and the research sample included XII students and biology teachers. Research data analysis used the SPPSS program to carry out the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, homogeneity, and Wilcoxon tests. The pretest and posttest scores were calculated using the N-Gain test. The research results showed that the overall analysis data increased students' critical thinking skills in experimental and control classes. The results of the normality test of pretest and posttest critical thinking data from the three schools showed that the data was normally distributed. Differences in data on students' critical thinking skills are also known from the sig value. 0.000 < α 0.05, which can be concluded that students' critical thinking skills are higher before and after being taught compared to classes with conventional learning.

Abstract

Mikroskop merupakan alat penting dalam pendidikan sains, terutama di bidang Biologi. Penguasaan keterampilan penggunaan mikroskop bukan hanya penting untuk kegiatan laboratorium, tetapi berguna juga ketika mahasiswa sudah memasuki dunia kerja. Meskipun berbagai tantangan dalam penggunaan mikroskop seperti alat yang kurang memadai dan kurangnya pengetahuan mahasiswa terutama mahasiswa semester pertama dalam pengunaan mikroskop. Hal ini juga disebabkan karena latar belakang sekolah mahasiswa yang berbeda-beda, sehingga diperlukan pengabdian ini dalam bentuk pelatihan pengenalan penggunaan mikroskop kepada mahasiswa calon guru Biologi. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk untuk meningkatkan pemahaman mahasiswa dalam penggunaan mikroskop. Tahapan pelatihan meliputi sesi teori, sesi demonstrasi, sesi praktik kelompok, dan sesi diskusi serta tanya jawab. Hasil dari pelatihan ini menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengenal dan memahami penggunaan mikroskop, meskipun banyak tantangan terkait sarana prasarana dan perlu adanya pelatihan yang berlanjut

Abstract

ABSTRACT Deep learning integrated with the STEAM approach is a learning paradigm that emphasizes conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, creativity, and the application of knowledge in real-life contexts. The successful implementation of this approach is highly dependent on teacher readiness, including conceptual understanding, pedagogical competence, and the availability of supporting facilities. This study aims to analyze the readiness of teachers at SMPN 2 Babat Supat in implementing deep learning integrated with STEAM and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation involving subject teachers and the school principal. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source triangulation. The findings indicate that teachers generally possess a basic understanding of deep learning and the STEAM approach and demonstrate pedagogical readiness in designing student-centered learning activities that encourage active participation. Teachers have also utilized various learning media, including digital platforms, to support the learning process. However, the implementation of deep learning integrated with STEAM has not been fully optimal due to several constraints, particularly limited and unstable internet connectivity, insufficient continuous professional training, and limited supporting facilities. These findings highlight the need for policy support, improvement of infrastructure, and sustainable professional development programs to strengthen teacher readiness and ensure the effective implementation of deep learning integrated with STEAM. ABSTRAK Pembelajaran mendalam terintegrasi STEAM merupakan pendekatan pembelajaran yang menekankan pemahaman konseptual, keterampilan berpikir kritis, kreativitas, serta keterkaitan pembelajaran dengan konteks kehidupan nyata. Keberhasilan implementasi pendekatan ini sangat bergantung pada kesiapan guru, baik dari aspek pemahaman konseptual, kompetensi pedagogik, maupun dukungan sarana pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesiapan guru SMPN 2 Babat Supat dalam mengimplementasikan pembelajaran mendalam terintegrasi STEAM serta mengidentifikasi faktor pendukung dan penghambat pelaksanaannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara mendalam, observasi pembelajaran, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas guru mata pelajaran dan kepala sekolah. Analisis data dilakukan melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan, serta diperkuat dengan triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru pada umumnya telah memahami konsep dasar pembelajaran mendalam dan STEAM serta menunjukkan kesiapan pedagogik dalam merancang pembelajaran yang mendorong keterlibatan aktif siswa. Guru juga memanfaatkan berbagai media pembelajaran, termasuk media digital, untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran. Namun demikian, implementasi pembelajaran mendalam terintegrasi STEAM belum berjalan optimal karena masih dihadapkan pada kendala, terutama keterbatasan akses dan kestabilan sinyal internet, minimnya pelatihan berkelanjutan, serta keterbatasan fasilitas pendukung. Temuan ini menunjukkan perlunya dukungan kebijakan, peningkatan sarana prasarana, dan program pengembangan profesional guru yang berkelanjutan guna mendukung implementasi pembelajaran mendalam terintegrasi STEAM secara efektif.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the literacy and numeracy scores of students at SMP Negeri 3 Satu Atap Lubuk Besar through an analysis of their report cards in 2024 and 2025. This research was conducted using a qualitative-descriptive method by reviewing educational report cards. The results of the study show that literacy scores increased from 76.74% in 2024 to 91.11% in 2025, while numeracy scores increased from 58.14% to 86.84%. The increase in the education report card scores is related to improvement efforts involving the entire school community. Several improvement measures that were taken included teacher training, the implementation of deep learning, and the strengthening of literacy and numeracy activities. Several challenges that still need to be addressed include the implementation of innovative literacy and numeracy activities, the lack of interest in reading among students, and the low level of prior knowledge among students. Recommendations from this study include improving the quality of learning, particularly in literacy and numeracy activities at school. The results of this evaluation are expected to help improve the quality of learning in order to improve students' literacy and numeracy skills.

Abstract

Peningkatan kompetensi pedagogik guru menjadi kebutuhan penting di abad ke-21. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah melalui edukasi penggunaan model pembelajaran inovatif yang berpusat pada peserta didik. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi mengenai penggunaan model pembelajaran inovatif dalam rangka meningkatkan kompetensi pedagogik guru SMA Negeri 9 OKU Selatan. Fokus kegiatan diarahkan pada penguatan pemahaman konseptual guru tentang karakteristik, sintaks, dan keterkaitan model pembelajaran dengan pengembangan keterampilan berpikir kritis, komunikasi, kolaborasi, dan kreativitas peserta didik. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan dengan pendekatan edukatif dan partisipatif melalui penyampaian materi, diskusi interaktif, dan refleksi bersama guru. Materi yang disampaikan mencakup konsep dasar pembelajaran inovatif, ragam model pembelajaran yang relevan, serta tantangan implementasinya dalam konteks pembelajaran di kelas. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa guru menunjukkan antusiasme yang tinggi dan memperoleh pemahaman yang lebih baik mengenai pentingnya penggunaan model pembelajaran inovatif sebagai bagian dari penguatan kompetensi pedagogik. Diskusi yang berlangsung juga mengungkap berbagai kendala yang dihadapi guru, seperti keterbatasan waktu, karakteristik peserta didik yang heterogen, dan pengelolaan kelas aktif. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan pengabdian ini berperan sebagai tahap awal dalam proses peningkatan kompetensi pedagogik guru dan diharapkan menjadi dasar bagi pengabdian lanjutan yang lebih aplikatif dalam perancangan dan implementasi pembelajaran inovatif di kelas.
