Abstract

Language development in early childhood is greatly influenced by optimal early literacy stimulation from preschool age. Early literacy forms a crucial foundation for reading, writing, communication skills, and children's confidence. This study analyzes strategies and approaches in early literacy learning to enhance language skills at Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah Kindergarten Pemalang. It employs a qualitative case study method, with data gathered via observation, interviews, and documentation, validated through source triangulation. Analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model: data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Results revealed that educators' early literacy strategies—playing, singing, and storytelling—effectively stimulate interest, enrich vocabulary, and familiarize children with letters, numbers, shapes, and colors in engaging ways. Applied approaches included behaviorism, cognitive, and social constructs, providing language stimulation while emphasizing social interactions with the environment. These complementary strategies and approaches foster active, creative, participatory learning environments, significantly advancing children's language development. Thus, the study confirms that early literacy success hinges on educators selecting strategies aligned with early childhood needs and developmental stages.

Abstract

Character education in elementary schools remains a challenge, particularly with regard to students’ low level of social awareness, the emergence of bullying behavior, and the suboptimal internalization of values such as empathy and tolerance. These conditions indicate limitations in pedagogical approaches to character education that have not yet systematically engaged students in value reflection processes. This community service program aimed to enhance the pedagogical competence of elementary school teachers in implementing character education based on the Value Clarification Technique (VCT). The program was conducted in Sambirejo Village, Semarang Regency, involving 16 teachers from two elementary schools as partner institutions. The service employed a participatory training and mentoring approach, including needs analysis, VCT workshops, mentoring during classroom implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests of teachers’ understanding, observations of instructional practices, and reflective mentoring notes, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis. The results indicate an improvement in teachers’ understanding of VCT concepts and implementation steps, changes in instructional practices toward more dialogical and reflective learning, and improvements in classroom dynamics characterized by increased empathy, mutual respect, and students’ prosocial behavior. These findings demonstrate that VCT-based mentoring is effective in strengthening character education in elementary schools and contributes to the development of a child-friendly and character-oriented school culture.

Abstract

This study aims to develop, evaluate the feasibility of, and analyze the potential effectiveness of the vocaroom educational game as a Canva-based instructional tool to improve English vocabulary comprehension for fourth-grade students. Utilizing the Research and Development method with the ADDIE model, the study involved 28 students at SDN Patemon 01 Semarang through a one-group pre-test-post-test design. The unique contribution of this medium lies in its integration of contextual spatial visualization and bilingual audio, which transforms conventional static digital flashcards into an explorative room-mapping experience. Through the Map Challenge and Room Conditions, students are encouraged to understand vocabulary within a concrete environmental context rather than through isolated rote memorization. Expert validation results indicate that the medium is highly feasible for implementation, with scores of 93 percent from material experts and 95 percent from media experts, confirming its alignment with the Kurikulum Merdeka. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test yielded an Asymp Sig 2-tailed value of 0.000, suggesting a significant improvement in student learning achievement from an average of 65.64 to 94.71. An N-Gain score of 0.8286 further suggests high effectiveness within this specific research context. Although these results are promising, the study acknowledges the limitations of a one-group design; therefore, further quasi-experimental research is recommended to strengthen the generalizability of the findings. Overall, the vocaroom educational game serves as a credible instrument to improve English vocabulary comprehension through an interactive spatial-mapping approach.
