Abstract

Data visualization and interpretation are important statistical literacy skills for prospective mathematics teachers. Intervention in the learning process can be done by designing Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) and integrating local wisdom which can develop students' statistical literacy skills. This research aimed to describe the HLT design with the topic of data visualization using the local wisdom of South Sumatra through hybrid learning. The method used was design research, with three stages, namely: preparation for the experiment, the design experiment, and the retrospective analysis. In this study, the design experiment was carried out at the pilot experiment stage. A total of 10 students from the mathematics education study program participated in this research. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The HLT was compared with the Actual Learning Trajectory (ALT) that occurred in the class. The results of the research show that students can be given contextual problems using the local wisdom context of South Sumatra, explore data visualization in various forms of data presentation, and interpret data from the visualization that have been created. Data visualization can help students understand and interpret data better.

Abstract

One of basic skill that must be had by students before they solved a mathematics problem is conceptual understanding skills. This research aimed to describe the skill of students conceptual understanding in identification any problem at indefinite integral and definite integral. Problem identification was the first step they should did before they did next step to solve the problem. Research method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative research and about 30 students of 4th semester who took calculus integral course participating as the subjects. Test and interview were used as data collection techniques in this study. For next step data was reducted, presentated, and concluded using triangulation techniques. Based the result of this study known about 63,3% of students could be had to identification the answer of any integral calculus problem and they had good enough conceptual understanding skill. To identification the answer of any integral calculus problem students had been red and understood the basic concept of it and then they had been did a lot of practice of finishing various problem of it.

Abstract

This study aimed to produce the Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS)’ questions of relation and function material that had validity and practicality and also had potential effect to support student’s creative thinking. This research was a descriptive research with design research method and development study type. The questions of relation and function material developed based on characteristics of Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) questions and followed stages of development study, such as: self evaluation, experts review, one-to-one, small group and field test. The subjects of this research were 38 students of eight grader from SMP Negeri 17 Palembang. They participated on one-to-one, small group and field test. Data collected using walkthroughs, interviews, questionnaires and tests. Validity of questions knew form experts review result based on content, construct and language. Practicality of questions knew from small group result about student’ understanding of purpose of questions and procedural of answering questions. Potential effect did known by test on field test stage. The result showed the HOTS’ questions of relation and function material truly supported student’s creative thinking.
