Abstract

The rapid development of the tourism sector is marked by the increasing number of tourist arrivals each year in a country. As tourism progresses there is also an increase in emergency events, especially in marine tourism such as drowning, decompression, breathing failure, cardiac arrest, hypovolemic shock, and cardiogenic shock. The provision of Basic Life Support (BLS) is very important to be known by coastal communities in providing first aid in the event of emergency marine tourism so that the morbidity and mortality cases can be prevented. This study aims to know the level of knowledge and attitudes of coastal communities regarding the provision of BLS in any events of a marine tourism emergency nearby. This study used a cross-sectional analytic design using proportional stratified random sampling with a total sample of 206 people. The study was conducted in Bunga Mekar Village, Nusa Penida from March to April 2020 using a questionnaire as a measurement tool. Based on the results of the study, is shown that the average score of knowledge of coastal communities is 3.20 or if categorized as being at the level of insufficient knowledge and the average score of attitudes of coastal communities is 3.00 or if categorized as being less favorable. Coastal communities at least needed to be given information and BLS training as an effort to increase knowledge and attitudes in providing first aid in the event of a marine tourism emergency in Bunga Mekar Village, Nusa Penida.

Abstract

The existence of epidemiological transitions and the shift of infectious diseases into non-infectious diseases cause high degenerative and chronic diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM). There are several types of diabetes mellitus, but of all types, type 2 diabetes mellitus is DM, which has the highest prevalence of around 90-95% of all DM patients in the world. The increase in the number of people with Type 2 DM is caused by many factors, such as excessive weight or overweight and obesity. Determination of more nutritional status or overweight can be seen from the Body Mass Index (BMI). High BMI is associated with blood sugar instability and the potential for complications such as micro vascular complications, namely neuropathy. Neuropathy causes problems in the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves which will have an impact on changes in the salivary acidity. This study was a correlation study with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study amounted to 41 participants chosen by consecutive sampling technique. Data collection was done by measuring height, weight, and salivary pH. Correlation analysis used Pearson Product Moment with a confidence interval of 95% (? = 0.05). The results of the Pearson Product Moment statistical test indicated that the correlation coefficient r=-0.398, and the Sig. value 0.010 (p <0.05). This result indicated that there was a weak negative correlation between BMI and salivary pH on Type 2 DM which means the higher BMI value, the lower salivary pH on Type 2 DM.

Abstract

Traffic emergencies are events that cannot be predicted in advance and can be experienced by all age groups who drive motorized vehicles. It is noted that over the last few years, the number of motor vehicle accidents in Denpasar has increased which has an impact on increasing morbidity and/or mortality. In addition to the high number of accidents in Denpasar, the first victim's response also plays an important role for the condition of the next victim. To overcome this, it is necessary to have a standby bystander close to the scene of the incident. One of the bystanders is the involvement of the police. The next problem is the ignorance of the police in the process of providing Basic Life Support (BLS) in the pandemic era which causes them to lack courage and confidence in providing assistance, resulting in victims experiencing disability or death. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Basic Life Support (BLS) Video on police self-efficacy in carrying out first aid for traffic emergencies in the city of Denpasar. This research is included in a quantitative study with a one group pre-test post-test design and a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted for 1 month with the number of respondents as many as 87 police officers using a simple random sampling technique on the entire police population selected from 4 areas in the city of Denpasar. Sampling data was collected using a questionnaire to measure self-efficacy before and after being given BLS video. During the pre test, police self-efficacy was in the moderate range as many as 78 respondents (89.7%), after being given the intervention there was a significant increase to the high range as many as 53 respondents (60.9%). So it can be concluded that the provision of BLS video is effective and be able to increase police self-efficacy in carrying out first aid for traffic emergencies in the city of Denpasar.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Shift work is a way to maintain proper health care daily at hospital. Shift work may affect fatigue level of nurse and work related stress in Emergency Room (ER) nurses. Generally there are two types of shift work, such as two and three division time a day. The three-division time shift includes 6-6-12 shift and 7-7-10 hours shift, and two-division time includes 12-12 hours shift. Lack of studies discusses about shift work on fatigue and work related stress in ER nurses. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the differences of the effects between 6-6-12 shift, 7-7-10 shift, and 12-12 shift on fatigue and work related stress, and determine the dominant indicator influencing fatigue and work related stress in emergency nurses at the hospitals in Badung and Denpasar regency, Bali Indonesia. Methods: This was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. Purposive sampling was done to recruit 102 nurses from eight emergency departments at Badung and Denpasar regency. Occupational Fatigue Exhaustion Recovery (OFER) questionnaire was used to measure fatigue, and Expanded Nursing Stress Scale (ENSS) questionnaire was used to measure work related stress. Univariate analysis was used to analyze demographic characteristics of each ER. Kruskall-Wallis test with post hoc Mann Whitney were used to determine the different score of fatigue and work related stress between each group, and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to identify contribution of fatigue toward work related stress of ER nurses. Results: There were significant difference of the effect of shift work on fatigue, between 6-6-12 shift and 12-12 shift with p = 0.037, and between 7-7-10 shift and 12-12 shift with p = 0.003; and significant difference of the effect of shift work on work related stress, between 6-6-12 shift and 12-12 shift with p = 0.474, and between 7-7-10 shift and 12-12 shift with p = 0.128. SEM results show that fatigue contributed about 61% to increase work related stress in ER nurses. Conclusion: There was significant difference of the effects on fatigue between two and three-division time of shifts, and there was no difference of the effect on work related stress for each group. Fatigue statistically increased work related stress in ER nurses.
