Abstract

Abstract: This study identifies and explores the negotiations that occur as pedagogical performativity in learning music in the digital era for Generation Z. This study also looks at the performativity of conventional to modern music learning. Furthermore, it can be known and clarified the position of music learning and its flexibility in learning modern music for generation Z. This type of research is qualitative with a case study approach. Data were obtained with questionnaires in qualitative research, and interviews, which were taken from April 2020 to January 2021. The data sources were 100 music teachers in Surabaya and Sidoarjo, East Java. The research point of view uses the concept of children's musical aspects popularized by Schu-Fang Lin and Helena Gaunt (2016) about the pedagogy of 21st Century music learning. The results show that performativity and pedagogical negotiation in Generation Z music learning begins with awareness and learning innovations carried out by teachers. The teacher realizes that the entry of technology has a significant role in the learning process of music. Negotiation of performativity and pedagogy ultimately leads to a multidimensional learning model that has a reciprocal effect on students. Multidimensional learning highlights the advantages of embracing technology for music learning for Generation Z without obscuring the traditional and other essential aspects of music and conventional learning. The use of technology and the negotiations that occur in it raises multidimensional learning, which aims to include aspects of the face-to-face classroom learning experience with technology-based learning experiences to become an attraction for Generation Z in music learning. Keywords: negotiating, performativity, pedagogy, music learning, Generation Z

Abstract

This study is aiming at finding out the impact of Tayub exploitation on the tradition and life of Javanese society. Research approach implemented in this study was qualitative. In addition, the research technique employed was interview, observation, documentation, and literary study. Results show that the new form of Tayub diminishes the structure of feminism, neglects simplicity, gentleness and spontaneity that are supposed to be part of Tayub dance. The movement of dance, music, and costume are also changed into a total different form, compared with the genuine version of Tayub dance. These major changes do not only bring negative impacts on the dance structure, but also change the society’s mindset and behavior. People living in the countryside part of Java have lost their control towards customs’ regulation and a philosophy that used to be held tightly by them.

Abstract

This study explores the aesthetic transformation from painting to installation art within the context of contemporary Indonesian art through a case study of Agung Tato Suryanto's works. This transformation signifies not only a shift in medium from two-dimensional to three-dimensional formats but also a paradigmatic change in how artists convey aesthetic, symbolic, and philosophical ideas. Using a qualitative method and case study approach, this research examines two key works—Second Level as a painting and Lingga Bergema as an installation—through the lens of Immanuel Kant’s aesthetic theory, Roland Barthes’ semiotics, and Theodor Adorno’s critical aesthetics. The analysis reveals that Agung Tato constructs a visual language that critically reflects on the dehumanizing and disoriented nature of modern urban life. In Second Level, he explores the absence of human presence in urban architecture as a metaphor for existential alienation, while in Lingga Bergema, he deconstructs patriarchal cultural symbols through reflective spatial installation. Both works expand aesthetic experience beyond the visual to become multisensory and participatory. This study concludes that Agung Tato’s aesthetic transformation is a conceptual strategy that responds to the complexities of contemporary social reality, demonstrating that contemporary art is no longer merely a visual object, but a dialectical space for critical consciousness, open interpretation, and deep aesthetic engagement.

Abstract

Lamongan has two different characteristics based on its territory, namely the North dominated by the culture of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom and Demak Kingdom, and South Parts dominated by Ancient Mataram culture. This cultural diversity has a significant impact on the development of dangdut music in Lamongan. This study was carried out to determine the characteristics of dangdut music in Lamongan based on the cultural backgrounds and the characteristics of the people in each region. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with phenomenology and social construction methods. The results of this study show how public construction is formed through thought that produces a social construction. The social construction process of dangdut Lamongan music can be seen through three stages, namely internalization, objectification, and externalization. Internalization occurs when a culture are penetrated on dangdut music, adopted and becoming part of the social identity of society. The music not only represents entertainment but also cultural values and social norms lowered from generation to generation. Objektivication is visible in objective elements such as musical instruments, and stage performances which form the typical identity of the dangdut Lamongan. Musical instruments such as drum, suling and electronic musical elements in modern dangdut collaborate with traditional musical instruments. Finally, Externalization occurs when people create in accordance with the form of serving their respective regions. Through the three processes, dangdut music in Lamongan becomes a social space where people interact, communicate, and reinforce their cultural identity through music.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the ethnomathematical concept of geometric transformation in Bojonegoroan batik motifs. Bojonegoroan batik is the result of a batik motif design competition organized by the Bojonegoro Regency Culture and Tourism Office in 2024. There are ten batik motifs each of which raises a theme including the theme of culture, tourism, history, and natural resources of the region. This study uses a qualitative approach of content analysis, with data in the form of visual documents and texts from official sources of local government. The results of the study show that batik motifs contain elements of geometric transformation such as translation, rotation, reflection, and dilatation. The ethnomathematical approach has proven to be effective in bridging abstract mathematical concepts through local cultural media. Bojonegoroan batik motifs are not only a visual representation of local wisdom, but can also be used as interdisciplinary teaching materials in mathematics and cultural arts learning. This study recommends the integration of batik motifs in the development of contextual learning media in schools, as well as a follow-up reference in ethnomathematical studies in other regions.
