Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the composition and crystal structure of the artificial zeolite produced, as well as the ability of artificial zeolite to reduce calcium and magnesium content in hard water. The zeolite was prepared using the hydrothermal method by mixing sodium silicate from Lampung pumice silica, sodium aluminate from aluminum can waste and charcoal from sunshade umbrellas. The artificial zeolite products were characterized using XRF, XRD, UV-Vis spectrophotometric and ICP-EOS. The results showed that the composition of the artificial zeolite was aluminum, silica, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganum and ferum. The crystal structure of the optimum sample from the UV-Vis spectrophotometric characterization obtained the crystal structure of a natural zeolite type, namely Chabazite. And the artificial zeolite which was tested for adsorption on hard water could reduce the calcium content by 36.57% but could not reduce the magnesium content.

Abstract

Preparasi dan karakterisasi pellet α-Fe2O3 dengan penambahan 0, 2, 5 dan 10 %wt. Fe3Mn7 berbasis pada material alam telah berhasil dilakukan. Proses pencampuran serbuk α-Fe2O3 dan Fe3Mn7 dilakukan dengan menggunakan HEM. Kemudian campuran serbuk dikasinasi pada suhu 1000 ºC, dikompaksi pada 69 Pa hingga menjadi pellet dan disinter pada suhu 1000 ºC. Karakterisasi XRD menunjukkan adanya fasa dominan α-Fe2O3 dan fasa baru MnO2 dan Fe3O4. Densitas dan kekerasan sampel meningkat secara linier seiring dengan kenaikan komposisi Fe3Mn7 yang ditambahkan. Sampel optimum diperoleh pada sampel α-Fe2O3/10 %wt. Fe3Mn7 dengan nilai bulk density dan kekerasan masing-masing 4,98 g/cm3 and 994,94 HV. Sampel ini termasuk dalam klasifikasi hard magnet dengan nilai magnetisasi saturasi, remanen dan koersivitas masing-masing sebesar 24,0 emu/g, 10,3 emu/g dan 571,8 Oe.

Abstract

In this study, we conducted the extraction of silver nitrate (AgNO3) using the chemical reduction evaporation method, involving silver metal (Ag) with a molarity of 7.716 M and nitric acid (HNO3). The heating process via evaporation was carried out at 85oC for 2 hours. Subsequently, the synthesis of silver nanowires (AgNWs) was performed using a 0.3 M of AgNO3 solution in ethylene glycol (EG), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), and Iron (III) Chloride hexahydrate (FeCl36H2O). XRD analysis of the AgNO3 sample revealed an orthorhombic crystal structure with a single AgNO3 phase peak. In AgNWs, three crystalline phases were observed, with the Ag phase being the most dominant. The average crystal size of AgNO3 and AgNWs was 109.42 nm and 22.06 nm, respectively. The average crystal size of the AgNO3 sample may be influenced by the aggregation between crystal nuclei during the heating process. XRF analysis indicated a 98.84% Ag concentration in AgNO3. SEM-EDS analysis showed that the AgNO3 sample had a non-aggregated morphological structure, with particle size measuring 49.46 μm and an overall AgNO3 purity of 92.68%. The SEM image of the AgNWs sample displayed a very homogeneous diameter of ∼200 nm with a length of around 10-20 μm. Meanwhile, AgNWs exhibited a morphology resembling rod-shaped wires with a purity of 68% for Ag.

Abstract

In this present study, the effect of reductant dosage, temperature and holding time on selective reduction process of high alumina-lateritic nickel ore have been investigated clearly. The lateritic nickel ore was reduced with 5 until 15 wt. % anthracite and 10 wt. % sodium sulfate at reduction temperature of 950C, 1050C and 1150C for 60, 90, and 120 minutes. Magnetic separation process was then conducted to separate the concentrate and tailing. The analysis of reduced nickel ore is performed by the Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, and Secondary Electron Microscopy. The optimal process resulted from the reduction of nickel ore with 10 wt. % anthracite at the temperature of 1050C for 120 minutes which resulted in 0.84% nickel in concentrate. The troilite was not found in reduced ore. The iron grade increased along the increased of reduction temperature. The longer of holding time in selective reduction process increased the nickel grade but it decreased the iron grade.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru IPA SD di Kecamatan Metro Utara dalam merancang dan mengembangkan alat praktikum sederhana untuk mendukung pembelajaran IPA, khususnya Fisika. Pelatihan ini mencakup ceramah, diskusi dan praktik pembuatan media praktikum. Media praktikum yang dibuat antara lain media pembelokan cahaya, konveksi pada zat cair dan termometer sederhana. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test untuk mengukur perubahan pengetahuan dan keterampilan guru. Rata-rata nilai peserta pelatihab meningkat signifikan dari 26,92% menjadi 63,08%. Hal ini menunjukkan efektivitas pelatihan dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dan keterampilan praktikum. Hal ini diharapkan berdampak positif pada kualitas pembelajaran IPA di tingkat sekolah dasar, menjadikan Fisika sebagai mata pelajaran yang menarik dan mudah dipahami oleh siswa. Kata kunci: guru IPA SD; alat praktikum sederhana; pembelajaran Fisika; evaluasi pelatihan Abstract This community service activity aims to enhance the competencies of elementary science teacher in Metro Utara in designing and developing simple practical tools to support science learning, especially Physics. The training involved lectures, discussions, and practical sessions to create simple practical media, such as tools for demonstrating convection in liquids, light reflection, and simple thermometer construction. Evaluation was conducted through pretest and posttest to measure changes in the teachers ‘knowledge and skill. The participants’ average scores increased significantly from 26,92% to 63,08%, indicating the training’s effectiveness in improving conceptual understanding and practical skills. These results are expected to positively impact the quality of science education at the elementary level, making Physics an engaging and easily understood subject for student. Abstract

Abstrak Matematika merupakan fondasi utama dalam penyelesaian berbagai masalah dalam bidang ilmu fisika. Namun, banyak mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalam mengusasai konsep-konsep dasar matematika sehingga menganggu prestasi akademik mahasiswa. Pengabdian ini bertujuan mengimplementasi metode inverted class untuk melihat bagaimana keberhasilannya dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan ini. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan pada minggu ke 3 dan 4 bulan Januari 2025. Kegiatan ini  dibagi menjadi menjadi tiga kegiatan yaitu persiapan kegiatan, pelaksanan kegiatan di kelas serta evaluasi keberhasilan dengan sasaran 55 mahasiswa baru Fisika Unila. Dalam masa persiapakan disusun modul interaktif, menarik dan modern. Lalu dilakukan test pemahaman awal konsep matematika dengan hasil 42,9%. Selanjutnya dilakukan 2 kali pembelajaran dengan inverted class. Pada tahap evaluasi diperoleh peningkatan pemahaman mahasiswa menjadi 60.5%. Dengan tambahan kesan positif terhadap pelaksanaan kegiatan dan modul yang diberikan. Pengabdian ini berhasil menunjukkan bahwa inverted class dapat menjadi solusi untuk mencarik pendekatan yang efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep sekaligus melatih kemandirian belajar mahasiswa.  Kata kunci: fisika; inverted class ; mahasiswa baru; pemahaman matematika AbstractHowever, many students struggle to grasp basic mathematical concepts, which negatively impacts their academic performance. This community service program aims to implement the Inverted Class method to evaluate its effectiveness in addressing this issue. The program activities were carried out in 3th dan 4th weeks of January 2025. This program was divided into three stages: preparation, classroom implementation, and evaluation of its success, involving 55 first-year physics students at Universitas Lampung. During the preparation phase, an interactive, engaging, and modern module was developed. An initial test was conducted to assess students' understanding of basic mathematical concepts, yielding an average score of 42.9%. The implementation phase involved two Inverted Class learning sessions. In the evaluation phase, the students' understanding improved significantly, with an average score increase to 60.5%. Additionally, students provided positive feedback on the learning process and the module used. This program successfully demonstrated that the Inverted Class method can serve as an effective approach to improving conceptual understanding while fostering students' independent learning skills. Keywords: inverted class; first-year students; physics; mathematical understanding; independence

Abstract

Pupuk kompos berbahan limbah pertanian/peternakan belum termanfaatkan secara optimal oleh petani/peternak. Mitra kelompok tani di Desa Rejomulyo memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan yang kurang dalam pembuatan pupuk kompos. Selain itu, proses pembuatan pupuk kompos yang ditandai dengan kenaikan suhu sulit dipantau. Oleh karena itu, petani memerlukan prosedur tahapan pengolahan pupuk kompos dengan monitoring suhu. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan melalui pengolahan pupuk kompos dengan menerapkan alat pembuat pupuk kompos. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan terdiri dari sosialisasi, diskusi, tanya jawab, demonstrasi dan praktik. Evaluasi kegiatan pengabdian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan mitra kelompok sebesar 44,85% dan keterampilan sebesar 50,00%. Dengan demikian, pengabdian ini telah berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mitra dalam pembuatan pupuk kompos dan aplikasi alat.

Abstract

This paper provides a Lightweight material is the result of technological problems in increasing the efficiency of finished products, saving manufacturing costs and environmentally friendly technology by reducing the amount of material used. There are many kinds of material manufacturing technology, ranging from the use of lightweight materials from the start, combining materials into composites and modifying the structure and characteristics of the material to make it lightweight. One commonly used method is to mix glass-ceramic with a foaming agent in purpose to modify the structure of material. The purpose of this study is to utillize basalt rock as source of glass ceramic and mixed with limestone to form cellular structure with optimal composition. The samples was crushed and sieve through 100 mesh afterward all material is mixed varied between basalt and lime with a ratio of sample A (100% Basalt), sample B (3:7), sample C (5:5), and sample D (7:3), which were burned at a temperature of 1100°C and 1300°C. After all sample reach designated temperature, all sample undergo annealed cooling in the furnace. Based on the characterization results, the best glass-ceramic sample formed with pores structure formation was sample B which is 70% addition of limestone in basalt mixture and burned at a temperature of 1100°C with a total pore size of 63% and a density of 0.92 g/cm3, where the glass-ceramic structure detected pyroxene and lime phases with a SiO2 composition of 14.61%. Basalt cellular ceramic is obtained in optimal condition with low density and higher percentage porosity.
