Abstract

Numeracy is a person's ability to implement mathematics in the home, work and community environments. This research aims to measure the practicality and effectiveness of using E-LKPD in a socio-cultural context assisted by GeoGebra workbooks in improving students' numeracy skills in pyramid material. The type of research used was a quasi-experiment (Quasi-experiment) with research subjects 21 class VIII students at SMPN 1 Kalisat Jember. The practicality of E-LKPD is assessed from the results of student response questionnaires, while the effectiveness of E-LKPD is assessed from the results of students' numeracy ability tests. The use of E-LKPD is said to be practical if the average percentage of students' questionnaire responses is at least in the practical category, and effective if students' numeracy skills are at least in the medium category. Based on the practicality analysis, the results of the student response questionnaire regarding the use of E-LKPD obtained a percentage of 81.67% or were in the practical category. In addition, the use of E-LKPD shows an increase in students' numeracy skills on all numeracy indicators. This can be seen based on the results of the numeracy ability test which obtained an N-Gain score of 0.51 or at a medium effectiveness level. Therefore, the use of E-LKPD in a socio-cultural context with the help of GeoGebra workbooks is practical and effective for improving students' numeracy skills, especially in learning surface area and volume of pyramids.

Abstract

Abstract

The concept of mathematical material is still not fully embedded in students' schemes, this means that errors occur in constructing the concept. This research aims to describe the actual situation regarding pseudo-construction errors that occur at the APOS (Action, Process, Object, and Scheme) stages. This research involved 28 students in class VIII A of SMPN 2 Silo Jember as subjects through problem solving test to get an comprehensive information about occuring errors. Then by the purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques, two subjects are choosen to explore in depth through interview. The data valiadation is guarantee through the member check process. Data analysis includie data condensation, data presentation, and concluding. The results of the research are that pseudo-construction errors occur at every stage of APOS which results in the concept not being fully constructed in the student's scheme. As a recommendation, developing a mathematics learning model based on APOS theory to minimize the error is needed such that the concepts will be well and completely constructed in students' schemes.

Abstract

One of the cultural behaviors of local wisdom that is starting to disappear is related to how manage the "garbage". Several communities still throw garbage out of place, such as in the river. On the other hand, the effects of this waste that was disposed of carelessly are very long-term for human health and also the environment. This culture is eventually emulated by their children and grandchildren who are still in school. For this reason, community awareness regarding waste needs to be directed, one of which is the management of a community waste bank. In Tegalsari Village, Ambulu Jember there is one Cipta Mandiri Waste Bank that has been operating for the last 3 years. The Waste Bank activity went quite well, but less than 20% of the community participated, especially young people and children who were less interested. So that the empowerment of the Waste Bank needs to be supported in order to be able to pass down the local culture of being aware of waste, especially for elementary school students through the socialization and education of ethnomathematics worksheets in the elementary school. The results of the activity showed that 78% of students wanted to take part in the waste bank around their homes and they enjoy learning with ethnomathematics worksheets about garbage.

Abstract

Students' difficulties in visualizing geometric objects often trigger various errors in problem-solving. Although mental imagery has an important function in clarifying the shape, position, and relationships between geometric elements, research specifically examining its relationship with student error types is still limited. This study aims to describe the relationship between mental imagery and student error types in solving geometric problems. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of three mathematics education students selected based on the variety of errors they made. Data was collected through geometry tests, observations, think-alouds, and in-depth interviews. The results showed that inaccurate or incomplete mental imagery led to the emergence of visual representation errors, conceptual errors, procedural errors, and calculation errors. Mental imagery that is not integrated with conceptual and procedural understanding causes students to misinterpret problems. The contribution of this study emphasizes the importance of strengthening visualization skills and integrating geometric concepts in learning to minimize students' cognitive errors.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe in depth the emergence of conceptual misconceptions and procedural errors, as well as the dynamics of students' thinking processes when solving triangle geometry problems. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design on three mathematics education students who had taken basic geometry, selected purposively to represent a variety of academic abilities and allow for intensive exploration of thought processes. The instrument is a triangular geometry problem solving task that looks for height, area, and lateral relations. Data was collected through written answer sheets, video recordings of the work, and retrospective clarification interviews, then analyzed qualitatively to trace patterns of misconceptions and procedural errors in the problem-solving flow. Data validity through source triangulation and trail auditing. The results showed that the three students displayed a neat calculation procedure, but were conceptually fragile. The height of a triangle is not interpreted as a perpendicular relation, the use of the theorem is carried out without prerequisites, and the relations between the lateral segments are assumed intuitively. Weak monitoring and evaluation during the problem-solving process hinders the formation of a coherent conceptual framework. These findings confirm the need for geometry learning that emphasizes the status of mathematical objects, adherence to the prerequisites of concepts and theorems, and the development of reflective monitoring habits in problem solving.
