Abstract

The use of cotton buds to clean ears is still widely done by the community without knowing the effects of using cotton buds. Cotton buds can cause otitis externa, cerumen prop and even perforation of the tympanic membrane. The purpose of community service is to provide education about the impact of using cotton buds to clean ears, as well as to create SOPs for cerumen props and ear hygiene. This community service consists of three steps, namely problem discovery, education on the impact of using cotton buds and creating SOPs for cotton buds and ear hygiene. The results of community service activities are in the form of problem discovery, increased knowledge and SOPs.The results of community service are that the community still does not know the correct way to clean ears, increased knowledge after providing education, as well as SOPs for cerumen props and ear hygiene. The conclusion of community service activities is increasing knowledge through education for health workers at the Taluak Tigo Sakato health center, SOPs for cerumen props, and SOPs for ear hygiene are expected to improve ear hygiene problems in the community.

Abstract

Colorectal carcinoma is the third most common malignant tumor worldwide. It is a heterogeneous disease with diverse clinicopathological and prognostic characteristics. The TNM (tumor, node, metastasis) staging system is currently used as a prognostic predictor. However, its predictive value is limited, as approximately 30% of patients with lymph node-negative disease die due to metastasis progression. It is suspected that other prognostic factors other than TNM staging system, may play a significant role. Differentiation grade and lymphovascular invasion have been proposed as essential prognostic factors for lymph node-negative colorectal carcinoma. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between differentiation grade and lymphovascular invasion in colorectal carcinoma. It was an observational study with a cross-sectional design. Samples were collected from 4 Anatomical Pathology laboratories in West Sumatera in 2018. A total of 97 paraffin blocks of colorectal adenocarcinoma met the inclusion criteria. Differentiation grade and lymphovascular invasion were evaluated according to the 2019 World Health Organization (WHO) classification. The correlation between differentiation grade and lymphovascular invasion was analyzed using Fisher's Exact test. A p value <0.05 considered statistically significant. The most prevalent age group for cases of colorectal adenocarcinoma was 51–60 yr (36.1%). Low-grade differentiation was the most common grade of differentiation (72.2%). Lymphovascular invasion in small vessels was commonly encountered (73.3%). High-grade differentiation adenocarcinomas had 100% lymphovascular invasion. A significant correlation between differentiation grade and lymphovascular invasion was observed (p = 0.031). This study confirms that lymphovascular invasion is a valuable predictor of colorectal carcinoma progressiveness.

Abstract

Circumcision is a medical procedure involving partial or complete removal of the foreskin (prepuce). This procedure is considered a minor surgical procedure. This activity aims to provide training to medical personnel at Siti Rahmah Islamic Hospital (RSI) Padang on circumcision techniques. Circumcision is often encountered in the community due to complications such as bleeding and delayed wound healing. Therefore, training is needed to acquire the latest knowledge, skills, and techniques for preventing complications. Conducting direct training with paramedics at Siti Rahmah Islamic Hospital (RSI) Padang on July 3, 2025. Direct intervention in the form of circumcision was provided to each participant (patient). The results of this circumcision training have trained and skilled paramedics at Siti Rahmah Islamic Hospital (RSI) to perform circumcision with minimal complications.

Abstract

Motivation/Background. Stunting represents a prevalent health issue, particularly in lower to middle-income countries, including Indonesia. Occurring predominantly among infants, stunting is influenced by various factors such as genetics and nutritional status, primarily derived from direct dietary intake like breastfeeding. Additionally, socioeconomic factors, including household income, economic status, and food security, also contribute to stunting in young children. The adverse effects of stunting manifest in compromised growth and intellectual development, potentially impeding productivity, elevating the incidence of low birth weight, and increasing the risk of degenerative diseases. These consequences may subsequently heighten the risk of future poverty. This study aims to explore the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in infants. Method: The research adopts a (narrative/systematic) review methodology, guided by the PRISMA 2020 framework. Data was gathered through searches on Google Scholar and PubMed, focusing on publications from 2019 to 2023. The search keywords included "Relationship between Exclusive Breastfeeding and Stunting," "Exclusive Breastfeeding," and "Stunting." Out of 100 results from Google Scholar and 756 from PubMed, five studies were selected for inclusion in this review. Results: The review indicates that the incidence of stunting is significantly associated with the lack of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life. Conclusions: There is a significant correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in infants, underlining the importance of promoting and supporting exclusive breastfeeding to mitigate the risk of stunting and its long-term consequences
