Abstract

This article is a result of research on the development of multicultural character-based curriculum management model in the Islamic Boarding School (henceforth: Pesantren) Khalafiyah. The education pattern in Pesantren  Khalafiyah is a boarding school pattern. Pesantren khalafiyah is unique compared to other school types. The schools curriculum is an integrative one that combines the formal school curriculum and the pesantren curriculum. In addition, because learning patterns incorporate habituation to form multicultural characters, the curriculum development model is typically relevant to the typology of Pesantren Khalafiyah. This research was conducted at Pesantren Khalafiyah Assalam Kudus and Pesantren Muhammadiyah Kudus. The data were analyzed using the  Research and Development approach. This study aimed to develop multicultural character-based curriculum management models and procedures. The results show that the boarding school-based Pesantren Khalafiyah has special features seen from the school governance, specialty outputs, curriculum loads, and evaluative models of learning. In addition to applying the formal school curriculum, Pesantren Khalafiyah also applies non-formal charges and hidden curriculum. The cost incurred in this type of school is the overlapping between subjects - the number of subjects is more than that in regular schools - and the evaluation model of learning. The provided solution to the problems of the boarding school requires the development of integrative curriculum, which combines the madrasah, pesantren, and habituation curriculum. The integrative curriculum development design contains curriculum formulation procedures by integrating the formal school curricula with the non-formal curricula (pesantren), including the preliminary evaluation procedures.

Abstract

This study aims to explore participatory-based budgeting procedures and their role in reducing budgetary slack in Islamic boarding schools. Using a qualitative approach, the research method was conducted at a pesantren-based madrasah in the City of Kudus involving foundation administrators, school principals, leaders, teachers, and plan participants. Primary and secondary data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were then analyzed using descriptive analysis. The findings of this study reveal that budgeting in Islamic boarding schools is based on participatory budgeting. Bottom-up budgeting is done from the lowest unit in the organization. The lower unit is the party with a deeper understanding of the smallest practical problems. Having the same responsibility for preparing the budget, lower units are expected to allocate budget items proportionally. Even though we hope that the participatory pattern will not cause slack, the facts show the potential for budgetary slack. This relaxation occurred because of a conservative attitude to anticipate uncertain conditions.

Abstract

As the oldest educational institution in Indonesia, Islamic boarding schools, famously known as Pesantren, are institutions which have persistence in transforming Islamic values. The persistence of Islamic boarding schools in affirming their role as educational institutions that always keep up with current developments is characterized by a responsive attitude to issues of religious moderation. In the global context, religious moderation is very necessary as a collective commitment to maintaining peace and national integrity. The existence of Islamic boarding schools is again being challenged to be adaptive in responding to problems of religious moderation. This research is intended to answer the problem formulation regarding what the values of religious moderation mean, what are the characteristics of Islamic boarding schools, and how to instil the values of religious moderation in Islamic boarding schools. Through a phenomenological approach and reflective logic, Islamic boarding schools' responses to the dynamics of global problems increasingly appear comprehensive. Islamic boarding schools are increasingly reaffirming their identity as educational institutions that teach tolerant attitudes, respect plurality and preach the teachings of Islam as a bringer of peace. The research results show that Islamic boarding schools are worthy of being a basis for preserving the values of religious moderation through internalizing the values of Tawassut, Tawazun, I'tidal, Tasamuh, Musawah, Shura.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of an independent board of commissioners, public accountant reputation, and public ownership proportion on social disclosure which is the purpose of the agency and legitimacy theory testing. It was carried out on the energy, manufacturing, and basic material companies listed on the Indonesian stock exchange in 2021. The sample of this study were 55 companies selected using a purposive random sampling technique. Sample were selected based on the criteria of CSR reporting availability. The ordinary least square was used to test the hypotheses. The testing result showed that public accountants and the proportion of share ownership by the public have a significant effect on social disclosure. This is due to the existence of public accountants and diversified ownership by the public increasing the supervision; as there is a quality assurance and the involvement of several parties in supervision. However, this research proved that the independent board of commissioners does not have a significant effect on social disclosure. This is because, in developing countries such as Indonesia, the role and function as well as compromising attitudes towards CEOs often take place. The distinction of this research showed that problems of agency and legitimacy theory often takes place due to permissiveness, politeness, and reluctance culture which extends to professional work matters. This study has limitations in variable measurement. Therefore, further studies should measure other variables related to the effectiveness of monitoring
