Abstract

Electricity is the major problem in Suoh sub-district because there is no electricity distributed by National Electricity Company (PLN). Suoh is located in the upstream of Way Semaka and water is available in river tributaries throughout the year which can be utilized for micro hydro power. This research aims to analyse the potency of the rivers including Way Hantatai, Way Sekandak and Way Gunung Lanang. The three rivers are categorised as ungauged catchments. Research method includes analysis of hydrologic similarity berween Way Semaka and Way Besai catchments, application of regionalization method where FDC for Way Semaka was developed from discharge data from Way Besai located close to Way Semaka. Measurement of flow variables in the rivers are used to verify dependable discharge calculated by regionalization method. The potency of electricity power is calculated based on dependable discharge Q50 and head. The result shows that hydrologic similarity  exists between Way Semaka and Way Besai catchments. Calculated discharges based on river measurements comparable to dependable discharges between 80%-93% from the FDCs for the three rivers. The maximum electricity power which can be generated are 15.26 KW, 4.12 KW and 2.71 KW for Way Hantatai, Way Sekandak and Way Gunung Lanang respectively.

Abstract

One of river flow components considered in watershed management is baseflow, the main contributor to the river flow during dry season. Ratio between baseflow to total flow is called Base Flow Index (BFI). In fact, BFI can be used as an indcator how good the catchment hydrology is. The purpose of this study is to analyze BFI of Way Seputih river at Hydrometry Station Buyut Udik. The method includes Recursive Digital Filter (RDF) method, which utilizes constant recession of hydrographs in displaying the ratio of baseflow from continuous discharge during periods when there is no direct runoff. Daily discharge data from Way Seputih river at Buyut Udik recorded from 1973 to 2006 is used. The result shows that yearly BFI values range from 0.142 to 0.487 and there is a decrease trend of yearly BFI over time. This result is confirmed by yearly average discharges which tend to decrease over time. These are effected by land cover degradation in Way Seputih catchment and  this should be a concern for authorities to improve land and water conservation in Way Seputih catchment so that river flow could be maintained throughout the year. Keywords: base flow index, baseflow, dry season

Abstract

Kota Tinggi located in the southern state of Malaysia, i.e. Johor Baru, experienced severe floods in December 2006 and January 2007, which was due to prolonged and intense rainfall. Johor River was inadequate to accommodate the water and at the same time the flow unable to escape the swolen river, hence water inundated the town. One of the river characteristics that may contribute in flooding is the meandering shape. Therefore it was proposed to do a hydraulic model that simulated some alternate channels that straightened some parts of the river. The model used one dimensional steady state approach using HEC-RAS software. The simulation result of the existing condition estimated that January 2007 flood event had a return period of 100 years. From the hydraulic model, it can be concluded that the choice of location and the length of the alternate channel had an effect on how much water level reduced.

Abstract

Flood events often occur in Indonesia so that quite a lot of people researched about the movement of floods and flood monitoring in the Watershed. The location of the study was carried out by the Way Sekampung river in Way Kunyir located in the Pringsewu district, Lampung province and is located downstream of the Batutegi dam. Flood tracing is intended to analyze the chances of a flood in the form of a flood hydrograph with or without using the Routing method and find out the results of some Routing methods in the watershed. The Routing method used in this study is Lag, Lag and K and Muskingum. The HEC-HMS modeling results state that peak discharge data when without Routing is greater than entering the Routing parameter. This is because entering the Routing parameter in modeling is very influential at peak times so that it affects the peak discharge at the watershed outlet. As a result of Muskingum Routing, the peak discharge is lower than before entering the flow routing, this is due to the occurrence of reservoirs along the river so that the peak discharge becomes lower than without Routing. The results of Lag Routing and Lag and K Routing are peak discharge decreased compared to before entering the Routing parameter. what should have happened to the peak discharge with Routing and without Routing remains the same, however, only peak discharge tranlations occur and there is travel time. This happens because there is no debit data at the station being reviewed so it uses rain data instead of HEC-HMS modeling.

Abstract

Land use and land cover change in a watershed might drive some impacts, such as high amounts of discharge fluctuations. Way Kuala Garuntang Watersheed is one of watershed in Bandar Lampung that has changed significantly. This study analyzed land use and land cover change to determine how much its influence on discharce fluctuations based on Geographics Information System. The method used in this study comprised of hidrology, spatial and sensitivity analysis. Hidrology analysis based on daily rainfall data. Spatial data analysis aims to present geospatial data related effects of land use and land cover change on the value of discharge. Sensitivity analysis is done by creating a land use and land cover simulation scenarios and sees its effect on the peak discharge events. The results of hidrology analysis in this study showed that the rainfall data obtained from the rainfall stations around the watershed were inconsistent and it needs to be repaired. It was found that the pattern of rainfall distribution in Bandar Lampung for 4 hours consists of 40%, 40%, 15% and 5% pattern. The results of spatial analysis in this study showed that there are 11 types of land cover on the existing condition and only has a protected area covering 4.72% of the total watershed. From the results of the sensitivity analysis showed that land use scenario with availability less than 30% of the area of green open space watershed may cause an increase in the value of the peak discharge. Instead, the scenario to maintain a 30% green open spaces of wide watershed did not make a significant change in peak discharge. This action is necessary to provide enough space for the infiltration of rain water on a particular area for the purpose of supplying the needs of ground water and flood control.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze land use and land cover change impact on Way Kuripan discharge. Six scenarios of land use and land cover changes at Way Kuripan watershed area of 53.54 km² was developed based on geospatial analysis with Geographic Information System. Peak discharge is calculated by using rational method. From the six scenarios simulation, scenarios 1, 2, 3, and 4 maintained the protected areas of 80.15%. Land use and land cover changes done by changing areas from vacant land and agricultural areas to be residential, industrial and government office areas. From the analysis, peak discharge of scenarios 1, 2, 3, and 4 change slightly which are between 11.19% and 23.46%. These results are in contrast to scenarios 5 and 6, in which scenario 5 keep the protected areas about 53.35% while in scenario 6 left the protected areas around 30%. Those protected areas changed into residential areas. The result showed that in scenario 5, the peak discharge changed about 66.29%. While in scenario 6, it changed about 107.19%. It can be concluded that the existence of protected areas in Way Kuripan Watershed was very important role to reduce the peak discharge values.

Abstract

Weather observations can be done in two ways, namely weather observations based on weather stations and based on remote sensing such as satellites. One of these weather study data is rainfall measured from the BMKG rain observation post and TRMM satellite observations. To see the pattern of the distribution of rain that has occurred, the two weather observations can be connected as a reference for the distribution of rain. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation value of rainfall data between BMKG and TRMM by looking at the comparison graph and analyzing the comparison of statistical parameters. This research was conducted using daily rainfall data from 1998-2018 at four rain stations in West Java Province and taking descriptive decisions in the form of pictures and graphs in the form of daily, monthly and annual data. Based on the analysis results, the largest correlation value is in the annual cumulative with a value of 0,88-0,94, the smaller the number of days, the smaller the correlation value. The BMKG and TRMM rainfall data have relatively the same pattern, but the maximum data have differences so that it reduces the correlation value. In the Statistical Parameter analysis, it can be stated that the difference in the values ??of the statistical parameters is directly proportional to the daily cumulative, that the difference in the median and mean values ??in the BMKG and TRMM data is greater in the data with a larger cumulative. Meanwhile, for linear regression analysis, it was found that the greatest value was the cumulative 1-year value with a coefficient of determination from 0,78 - 0,89.
