Through features such as following, liking, and commenting on posts, sociology students can connect with fellow students, lecturers, and professionals in the field of sociology. In analyzing the data collected, we found that the use of Instagram by sociology students made it possible to expand the social network widely. Sociology students connect with people who share similar interests and interests in sociology, both on campus and off-campus.

Abstract

The activity of providing gender education socialization to students of the Hidayatussibyan NW Sengkerang Islamic Boarding School Foundation is a form of community service implementation targeting students of the Hidayatussibyan NW Sengkerang Islamic Boarding School. Community service in the form of socialization is intended to provide knowledge and awareness building about gender issues such as awareness of gender equality and gender violence. This socialization is expected to raise students' awareness of gender concepts and stereotypes that are developing in society. Based on the results of the community service team's analysis, there are still many students who consider the gender inequality they see in everyday life to be something normal and are not critical of it. The internalization of the values they have received since childhood in their families and the surrounding environment, especially about gender inequality, they consider it commonplace and accept it for granted. This community service is carried out using a direct socialization method and added Focus Group Discussion to find the core of the existing problem. The results of the community service activities are measured through several questions in the form of pre-tests and post-tests, the results of which show an increase and awareness that is starting to build from regarding the students' concept of gender, gender equality, and gender violence.

Abstract

This paper questions the symbolic production and educational reproduction of masculinity among the Sade community of Lombok, Indonesia. Based on ethnographic evidence, it critically analyzes the ways in which the traditional male authority is not only maintained through cultural practices and kinship systems but is actually taught, moralized and reproduced through generations. Although emergent forms of transitional masculinity, including male participation in household chores and shared household decision-making, may seem to be progressive, the results demonstrate that such changes frequently act to re-legitimize, rather than challenge, patriarchal authority. In this setting, masculinity is not so much a role as a symbolic regime, coded in ritual speech, spatial hierarchies, rights of inheritance, and public moral acknowledgment. The study will help in making critical contributions to the sociology of education by conceptualizing masculinity as a culturally constituted symbolic regime of governance and gendered pedagogy. It claims that learning in traditional societies is much more than schooling, and that it is carried out in ritualized speech, intergenerational imitation, and spatial-cultural coding. This gendered pedagogy socializes boys into power and speech and girls into service and silence and defines what is possible, permissible and desirable to both. The research criticizes equity-based educational interventions that focus on access or participation without focusing on the symbolic narratives of legitimacy and leadership. The results demand a radical reconsideration of gender-responsive education: an education that deconstructs the cultural logics of masculinity, de-centers patriarchal symbolism, and re-builds the moral architectures in which authority is learned and reproduced.

Abstract

This study examines the forms and dynamics of social solidarity among urban communities living in the BTN Citra Persada Nyamarai housing complex, West Lombok. This area reflects the social reality of urban communities living in physical and social barriers due to the design of residential spaces, high mobility, and diverse socio-economic backgrounds. A qualitative approach was used in this study with data collection techniques through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings show that although interactions between residents tend to be limited and fragmented, there are patterns of solidarity that develop through informal mechanisms such as social gatherings, religious activities, and environmental emergency response. This study reveals that solidarity in urban spaces does not always weaken, but undergoes a transformation in form from mechanical solidarity to organic solidarity based on shared needs and interests. The results of this study contribute to the understanding of how urban communities build social cohesion in the context of changes in spatial planning and modern lifestyles.

Abstract

Early childhood marriage is a serious problem in West Nusa Tenggara, especially in East Lombok, with the incidence rate continuing to increase despite local regulations prohibiting it. The main factors that cause early marriage include low motivation to go to school, psychological conditions, and the economic conditions of parents who force children to marry young. Local cultures such as merariq kodek also reinforce this practice, where early childhood is seen as ready for marriage. The service activity was carried out through 2 stages, namely the preparation stage and the implementation stage of the activity on July 8, 2024, attended by 50 teenagers in Keranji Hamlet, Paremas Village, Jerowaru District. The counseling carried out by the service team from the Sociology Education Study Program, University of Mataram succeeded in increasing the awareness of the younger generation about the dangers of early marriage and the importance of education as the key to a better future. The results of the discussion also showed a change in positive attitudes, with participants unequivocally rejecting early marriage and agreeing to prioritize education. Efforts to educate and increase access to education need to continue to be strengthened as the main foundation to reduce the rate of early childhood marriage and form a quality generation in the future.
