Abstract

Background: Delivery processes experience 90% perineal rupture—worldwide. Previous research on test animals proved the effect of cherry leaf gel on wound healing can kill microorganisms, increase collagen, and repair wound tissue. However, no research has been found on healing perineal wounds in postpartum mothers using cherry leaf gel, so this research is necessary.Purpose: Making and testing kersen leaf extract gel to improve perineal wound healing for postpartum women.Method: This is a quasi-experiment with a pre-post-test with a control group design. The sample consisted of 26 postpartum women with perineal injuries grade 2, divided into two groups (Intervention and control). The intervention was given a combination of kersen leaf gel 25% with antibiotic 2x1 for seven days, and the control group was only given the antibiotic. Perineal wound healing was assessed using the REEDA score. The data analysis used the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results showed that the average REEDA score was lower in the intervention group than in the control group on day 3 (5.00±1.155 vs. 5.85±0.801; p=0.038), day 5 (2.31±0.650 vs. 3.23±1.013; p=0.029), and day 7 (0.23±0.439 vs. 1.15±0.987; p=0.039).Conclusion: Kersen leaf extract gel is effective in improving perineal wound healing in postpartum women.

Abstract

Background: The active ingredients of ginger, such as gingerol, shogaol, zingerone, and paradol, are compounds that play a significant role in anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Previous studies that have been carried out using red ginger showed significant results on the severity of breast engorgement; however, these studies have not measured the decrease in levels of the hormone prostaglandin, which is an indicator of engorgement and pain. Previous studies have also shown the impracticality of the intervention. This study has made red ginger "param" (medicinal powder to rub on the body), but the param formulation needs to be tested.Purpose: Analyze the effectiveness of red ginger compress in preventing breast engorgement and reducing breast pain and prostaglandin hormone levels in postpartum mothers. Methods: This is experimental research with a post-test only with a control group design. Respondents in this study were postpartum mothers. Respondents were randomly allocated into two groups, control groups (n=15) and intervention groups (n=15). The intervention group receives red ginger compresses twice daily for five consecutive days. The variables observed were breast engorgement, breast tenderness, and levels of prostaglandins. Data were analyzed using the independent T-test and Mann-Whitney test. Results: There was an effect of a red ginger compress to prevent breast engorgement (p<0.05) and reduce breast pain (p <0.05); however that is not significant reduce prostaglandin hormone levels (p>0.05).Conclusions: Red ginger compress effectively prevents breast engorgement and reduces breast pain, but not significant in reducing prostaglandin hormone levels.

Abstract

Abstract

Malnutrition status among children under five in Indonesia is still a serious problem faced today. The problem of malnutrition that occurs in children under five can be handled by providing additional food (PMT). This additional food can be obtained from local food ingredients which are easy to obtain and have economic value. The aim of the research was to conduct an analysis of the effect of giving rice bran cookies and banana peels on weight gain in malnourished toddlers aged 1-4 years in Gebangmalang Village, Mojoanyar District, Mojokerto Regency. The type of research is an experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) using two treatment groups (C1 and C2). The first stage is to carry out an acceptability test to find out which cookies are most liked and carry out an analysis of the nutritional content contained in the cookies. The next stage was to intervene by providing 50 grams of cookies for 28 days to see changes in the weight of malnourished toddlers aged 1-4 years. The research uses Prettest-Posttest Group Design. Research analysis using the Krusskal Wallis test showed that there was a difference between the acceptability of rice bran cookies and banana peel cookies with a value of ρ<0.05. Furthermore, based on the Mann Whitney test, it shows that C2 cookies are proven to be the most preferred cookies compared to C1 cookies with a value of ρ<0.05. Banana peel cookies contain nutrients including macro nutrients and micro nutrients including protein, calcium, ferrous and vitamin A per 100 grams of cookies. Based on the results of the independent T-test, it shows that there is a difference in the weight gain of malnourished toddlers aged 1-4 years in the intervention group and the control group with a value of ρ<0.05, while the average weight gain of malnourished toddlers aged 1-4 years in The intervention group was higher when compared to the control group with an average weight gain ratio in the intervention group of 5.3 while the weight gain in the control group was 1.3. Providing additional food as part of treating malnutrition in children aged 1-4 years can be done by providing cookies with the addition of economical local food ingredients. It is hoped that these cookies can be an alternative for dealing with malnutrition in children under five.
