Abstract

For most foreign language learners, understanding texts written in a foreign language is not an easy thing to do. To help learners in coping with this problem, when teaching reading teachers should provide them with a number of structured tasks that not only focus on students’ reading purpose, but also allow them to confront and reflect upon reading difficulties in socially interactive ways and one of the activities which is appropriate with these tasks is Directed Reading Activity (DRTA). The objective of the research is to compare the behavior of the English reading class students before and after the implementation of DRTA. The subjects of this research were 3 students of LBB Teladan Kudus. The conclusion is that the behavior of the students is better than that before the implementation of DRTA. The students become motivated, active, enthusiastic, paid attention to the teaching learning process, and got involved in the teaching learning process. Considering that DRTA has many benefits for learners especially dealing with learners’ behaviors, it is suggested that this activity should be used by the teacher when teaching reading.

Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the students’ obstacles in listening comprehension during the TOEFL test. This present research aims (1) to find out what problems are faced by the students in listening comprehension and (2) to find the students’ strategies to overcome the problems faced in listening comprehension of English Education Department students of Universitas Muria Kudus. This qualitative case study is involving 53 participants who took the TOEFL course every semester in the academic year 2021/2022. The data was accumulated by using questionnaires and interviews. The result of the research showed that bad recording of the audio system during the listening section, the pace of the speakers when they speak, losing concentration, and the distraction from the non-technical side were the major obstacles in listening comprehension encountered by the students. This research also shows the strategies proposed by the students to enhance their listening skills. Despite the difficulty, the students agreed that listening comprehension skills are one of the most important skills that they had to learn as young learners because listening skills consist of language skills that they must master it. Knowing students’ obstacles to listening comprehension may help the teachers to propose and develop effective learning strategies, and also for the Lab UPT Bahasa to improve the quality of the audio system. The suggestion is made for marking the obstacles regarding how students could help themselves and all the parties could help their students to overcome the obstacles encountered by the students in listening comprehension.

Abstract

Since face-to-face classrooms are shifted to online classes, the assessment which is a part of the teaching-learning process is also virtually conducted. This study aims to describe the online assessment tools utilized by teachers when giving online assessments to their students. Moreover, it also investigates the challenges faced by teachers in the implementation of online assessment as well as the solution to respond to those issues. This is a qualitative research design using open-ended questionnaires as the instrument of the research. The participants were 25 teachers from primary schools, junior high schools, and senior high schools in Central Java province Indonesia. The findings of the research show that teachers from elementary schools to senior high schools use a range of online assessment tools when giving their students online evaluations such as Google Forms, WhatsApp, Quippier, Quizzes, and Microsoft Team. When giving online assessments, several difficulties are encountered by teachers at all levels, including poor internet access, academic dishonesty, students’ discipline, and the lack of mobile phones. Teachers have done various actions in response to such problems. For instance, changing the questions from objective to subjective ones, providing internet access, encouraging students to submit their work on time, and visiting the students at home to lend them mobile phones to do assessments if they do not have one.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the perception of vocational school students in learning narrative texts by using animated movies. This study is qualitative research with the questionnaire and interview as the instruments of collecting data. The participants of this study were 36 students of a state vocational school in Pati regency, Indonesia majoring in the Financial & Institutional Accounting Program. The results of the questionnaire show that in general, 81.57% of the participants have a positive perception of the use of animated movies in learning narrative texts. Meanwhile, 18.43% of the participants have a negative perception. The results of interviews conducted with five students also reveal that most of the students agree on the use of animated movies because they help and support the learning process and are very easy to understand. From this research on the use of animated movies, teachers are suggested to use this media in teaching narrative texts. Keywords: Perception; Narrative Texts; Animated Movie.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' perceptions of using the Telegram Application as a tool in learning in English class and also to find out what benefits they get when using the Telegram Application. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method.  Researchers used a questionnaire to determine the perceptions of students who were given to and interviews, namely to gain deep information about the questionnaire and to find out what benefits they got.  There were 65 students who filled out the questionnaire and 26 students who had been interviewed.  The results showed that the students' Perceptions towards the use of Telegram Application as an e-learning tool have positive perceptions.  Moreover it was also revealed that the students get benefits when studying through the Telegram Application, they get many benefits. From the results, the majority of students agree that through Telegram students can make it easier to get material, make it easier for students to understand the material, as well as the many benefits they get from learning through the Telegram Application.

Abstract

Identification of learning difficulties is the most important process because it determines the next step in conducting an assessment especially for students with special needs. The first step that needs to be taken in determining the learning difficulties of children with special needs is through identification, where each student has a different character. The purpose of the research is to identfy learning difficulties faced by children with special needs by using backward chaining model and give solutions to learning difficulties. The study's findings indicate that the main factor causing learning challenges for children with special needs is an internal component coming from the students themselves, namely their motivation (75%). The second component is an external factor that has to do with how parents educate their special needs children (25%). To solve the problems, students should have a high motivation in studying and parents should change the way they educate their children. It is suggested that parents should give more attention on students’ academic progress

Abstract

The Effect of Recycled Coconut Dregs Media on Fine Motoric Improvement in Learning Mosaic Art at Kb Permata Bunda, The objectives to be achieved in this study are as follows: 1) To identify and describe fine motor skills in KB Permata Bunda Mayong Lor children, Mayong District, Jepara Regency. 2) To find out and describe the learning process by applying the demonstration method through a mosaic game for the children of KB Permata Bunda Mayong Lor, Mayong District, Jepara Regency. 3) To find out and prove the effectiveness of the application of the demonstration method through mosaic games in improving fine motor skills in KB Permata Bunda Mayong Lor children, Mayong District, Jepara Regency. This research is a study conducted in the classroom, because of that the researchers analyzed the data using the classroom action research (CAR) method. This classroom action research is designed to solve problems that are applied directly from within the class or in the learning process in class, namely at KB Permata Bunda Mayong Lor, Mayong District, Jepara Regency. The subjects of this study were children in KB Permata Bunda Mayong Lor, Mayong District, Jepara Regency, with a total of 12 children. The results of this study include: 1) The fine motor skills of students were successfully improved through the learning process by applying a mosaic game with natural coconut dregs as media for children aged 4-5 years at KB Permata Bunda Mayong Lor, Mayong District, Jepara Regency. 2) The application of the demonstration method through mosaic games in improving fine motor skills using natural coconut dregs as media for children aged 4-5 years at KB Permata Bunda Mayong Lor, Mayong District, Jepara Regency was effective. This is evidenced by the achievement of students' fine motor skills in pre-cycle was 35%, increased in cycle I was 50% and 60%, and increased again in cycle II with achievements of 74% and 85%. The indicator of children's success is 80% classically, in cycle II the child's achievement is 85% = 80% so it can be concluded that in cycle II this study was successful. 3) The teacher succeeded in carrying out the learning process by applying the demonstration method through a mosaic game with natural coconut dregs media for children aged 4-5 years at KB Permata Bunda Mayong Lor, Mayong District, Jepara Regency. This is evidenced by the final results of the teacher's performance which is 87%.

Abstract

Menggambar adalah kegiatan yang sangat disenangi oleh anak-anak karena dengan menggambar anak bisa lebih mengeksplor dirinya, mengungkapkan perasaannya, mengerti orang lain sehingga kecerdasan interpersonalnya dapat dikembangkan dengan optimal. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan kemampuan anak dalam menggambar bebas menggunakan krayon untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar anak pada indikator menggambar bebas dengan media krayon dapat tercapai dengan optimal yang dilaksanakan di TK Muslimat NU Rembang usia 4– 5 tahun. Populasi penelitian ini adalah semua murid kelompok A2 sebanyak 28 peserta didik. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas atau class action research. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi dan dokumentasi melalui dua siklus yakni siklus 1 dan siklus 2. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kemampuan menggambar bebas anak pada pra siklus sebesar 7%. Pada siklus 1 menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan menggambar anak sebesar 54% dan pada siklus 2 terjadi peningkatan kemampuan menggambar anak sebesar 79%. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan kemampuan menggambar anak melalui media krayon

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memilihat pengaruh loose part terhadap kemampuan berbicara melalui metode bercerita di fase pondasi. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode quasi experiment. Populasi penelitian ini di KB Bunga Dahlia dengan sampel anak usia 4-5 tahun pada kelompok Mawar dan Kelompok Dahlia, Kelas kelompok Mawar sebagai kelas kontrol dan Kelompok kelas Dahlia sebagai kelas eksperimen. Hasil penelitian ini adalah adanya pengaruh yang sigifikan dalam penggunaan loose part berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berbicara melalui metode bercerita anak di fase pondasi di KB Bunga Dahlia Pati. Adapun rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah Apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan berbicara anak fase pondasi di KB Bunga Dahlia yang diajar dengan menggunakan dan tanpa menggunakan media loose part melalui metode bercerita?. Penelitian ini di harapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi kepada lembaga agar dapat menggunakan media loose part sebagai alternatif media pembelajaran dalam peningkatan perkembangan bahasa anak. Dan untuk peneliti dapat digunakan sebagai referensi penelitian selanjutnya.
