Abstract

CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) is an innovative teaching approach that combines content subject with language learning. It is essential to explore students' socio-affective perceptions of the implementation of this approach because these perceptions can influence their learning experience and outcome. This study aims to explore students’ socio-affective perceptions of 11th grade senior high school students at MAN 2 Kudus regarding the use of CLIL in science class. In this study, researchers used qualitative methods with open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The participants were 27 students in the 11th grade of XI-5 at MAN 2 Kudus. The results show that students’ attitudes in CLIL-based Science class, such as confidence, comfort, motivation, and participation, are influenced by their English proficiency. Those with higher English proficiency tend to feel more confident, motivated, and participative in the classroom, while those with lower proficiency have more challenges and participate less. Despite these challenges, most students had a positive perception of the use of the CLIL approach. They believe that it helps enhance their English skills, significantly improving their vocabulary.

Abstract

This article examines research trends on parental involvement in inclusive education in reputable databases. The method used is bibliometric analysis with the Biblioshiny application and the central database analyzed from scopus.com. The keywords used were "parental involvement" and "inclusive education" in research from 1975 to 2024. After the extraction process with only article publications in scientific journals, 170 publication data were obtained. The results of bibliometric analysis show that in nearly 50 years, the number of studies tends to be small—most research centers in the United States, with the most productive institution being the University of Minnesota. At the same time, the most productive researcher is Gabriella Pusztai, who has three publications. The primary reference journal is Early Child and Development Care. When viewed from keywords, child, parent, and parental involvement are the most dominant keywords researchers use. This provides a comprehensive picture of the development of parental involvement research. Furthermore, research is expected to be more contextualized with the socio-cultural conditions where the research is conducted to add to the diversity of research related to parental involvement, especially in inclusive education.

Abstract

Being able to speak English is important nowadays. It is a global language which is used in every part of life. As a foreign language, English has different position in Indonesian learners or students rather than those who are in English–second language countries. More students still regard English as subject should be accepted only in the class. This is one of factors students are difficult to master English, especially in speaking. Speaking English becomes something which is difficult since it is not practiced. A language must be used, must be applied as the medium of communication. Regarding to the purpose of communication, speaking relies on the message conveyed and the way it is delivered. Speaking basically is easier than other skills in English (Listening, Reading, and Writing). Unfortunately, most students feel have less confidence for speaking English. They are afraid for making mistakes. Knowing this condition, it is needed an intensive treatment through certain techniques so students will get used to talk in English without any barrier. Besides, their mental should be also sharpened so they will not be afraid to speak in English to others, moreover to public or in front of public. Therefore, researchers are eager to expose students’ speaking ability in the English Conversation Club (ECC) of SMA N 1 Kudus by using an Australasian Debate System. This technique will give more opportunity for students to explore their idea individually and in a team.
