Abstract

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) prioritizes measurable learning outcomes but often faces significant implementation challenges. This research explores the barriers to adopting OBE within English Language Teaching (ELT) by conducting a systematic literature review. Key challenges identified include issues with teaching methodologies, institutional support, curriculum design, and assessment practices. Teachers struggle to transition from traditional, teacher-centered approaches to student-focused methods, often due to inadequate training and resources. Additionally, aligning lessons with clear learning objectives and developing effective assessments remains difficult. Limited school support and resistance to change further complicate the adoption of OBE. This study provides valuable insights and offers recommendations for educators and policymakers, emphasizing the importance of targeted training, sufficient resources, and structured guidance to effectively implement OBE in English language education. Abstract

This paper discusses the practice of Culturally Responsive Teaching in a "Poetry and Drama in Language Education" class in one of the universities in Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia, along with its effect on students' speaking skill in EFL setting. This was a qualitative study that used observations and interviews among students at a university in Mojokerto. This approach involves the use of CRT to make the activities of related poetry and drama materials relevant to the students' cultural background and everyday experiences. The application of CRT greatly enhanced the motivation and participation of students in class and their understanding of the poetry and drama materials. This improved students' critical and analytical thinking that was inductively created through discussions and activities most related to them ontologically. Additionally, students heightened their cultural awareness and appreciation of diverse perspectives, which contributed to the development of an inclusive learning environment. In this regard, application of CRT in learning English has had a positive impact on the students' speaking and collaboration skills and has set a strong base for the development of language skills within a meaningful context of use. The research provides the fact that CRT is a sound approach to making the desired improvements within students' learning outcomes and in their eventual educational applications.

Abstract

Despite the importance of writing skills in education and professional settings, a significant gap exists in effective teaching methods that engage EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners. This study explores the integration of films as a tool to enhance descriptive writing skills among EFL students. The research employs a descriptive qualitative design, analyzing data from classroom observations and interviews. Findings reveal that films provide visual, sensory, and emotional stimuli, which help students improve their writing by making descriptions more vivid and contextually coherent. The study's implications suggest that using films can bridge the gap between traditional teaching methods and the modern demands of writing proficiency.
