Abstract

This research aims to reveal perceptions of affordability, support and obstacles to implementing the Independent-MBKM Internship Program in the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, FKIP, Untan. This research utilizes research data in the form of perceptions of students participating in the 2021-2023 Independent Internship"”MBKM program, totaling 26 people regarding the affordability of the program. Research data in the form of perceptions from 7 teaching and educational staff regarding support and obstacles to implementation. The data obtained was analyzed descriptively with the help of the SPSS application. This research succeeded in revealing that students responded positively to the ease of accessing the program. This research also succeeded in revealing that teaching and educational staff have provided good support to students and believe that the Independent Internship program is able to prepare students for the world of work and increase employment opportunities. The obstacles experienced were course recognition and limited time.

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this study is to reveal the use of modalities in a comedy movieentitled Kembang Polaria (FKKP) II. Specifically this study investigate thetypes, values, and frequency of use of modalities in that movie. This studyutilizes qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods with the SystemicFunctional Linguistics (LFS) approach in assessing the modalities clauses inFKKP II obtained through library techniques. The findings indicate that theuse of probability modality is high, medium, and low, usuality modality obtainshigh value, medium and low value for obligation modality, and medium andlow value in inclination modality. The possibility modality is used for 12 timesand the modality of the frequency is used 6 times. Obligation modality is used25 times and inclination modulation was found to be used 43 times. Thedominant modality in the movie (FKKP II) is modulation modality, which is79.07% of the total modality used. The modalities found in FKKP II aremodality modulation with medium and high values, obligation modality hashigh value, and high value for inclination modulation. In conclusion, thehighest authority is not used in the movie (FKKP II) since most of the movieplayers are the general public members who have the same position in sociallife.Keywords: modallity, LFS, Kembang Polaria II, Interpersonal

Abstract

Purpose – Zotero is a Reference Management Software (RMS) that can help students manage references, citations, and bibliographies automatically. However, the background factors and the extent to which students understand and feel the benefits of using Zotero in this process have not been widely studied, especially from a qualitative research perspective. Therefore, this study aims to examine the factors behind using Zotero as a reference management tool and its impact on the process of writing academic texts for students.Methodology – The research employs a qualitative design with data collected from twelve undergraduate students at Tanjungpura University during the 2023-2024 academic year. Participants were selected based on their confirmed experience using Zotero for academic writing. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews, and thematic analysis was applied to identify patterns and themes in the responses.Findings – The research findings indicate three main themes. The first theme is the perception of ease of use, with subthemes of ease of download, installation, and use, as well as ease of understanding and learning. The second theme is the perception of usefulness with the subthemes of time efficiency, improved score, improving writing quality, ease of citation, and bibliography, making it easy to translate. The third theme is the influence of using the subthemes of academic encouragement, friend encouragement, and lecturer encouragement. These findings underscore Zotero’s effectiveness in supporting students’ academic writing needs.Significance – This research benefits educators, students, and academic institutions seeking to incorporate practical reference management tools into academic writing practices. It highlights Zotero's potential to streamline the writing process and improve academic outcomes, offering valuable insights for integrating technology into higher education curricula. Keywords : Zotero, RMS, Reference Management, Student, Perception

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi persepsi mahasiswa S-1 semester kedua terhadap pemanfaatan ChatGPT dalam menunjang kegiatan akademik pada tingkat pendidikan tinggi. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan bantuan teknik wawancara semi-tersturktur untuk mendapatkan data melalui 10 responden yang telah menggunakan ChatGPT dalam proses pembelajaran di perguruan tinggi dalam rata-rata tentang 2 sampai 7 kali dalam seminggu. Berdasarkan teknik analisis data tematik, penelitian ini berhasil mengungkap empat tema besar persepsi yakni persepsi terhadap kemudahan penggunaan, persepsi kegunaan, ancaman dan kehati-hatian, dan persepsi terhadap optimisme dan keberlanjutan penggunaan. Keempat tema tersebut mengambarkan kesan positif dan kehati-hatian mahasiswa dalam menggunakan ChatGPT.

Abstract

Purpose: Teachers' attitudes towards multicultural classroom management determine civic education in multicultural classrooms. Therefore, this study aims to examine teachers' perceptions of managing multicultural classrooms in Singkawang, a city known for its high tolerance in Indonesia.Methodology: A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews to collect data from eight teachers (four male and four female) aged 32 to 52 years, representing Dayak, Melayu, and Javanese ethnicities. These teachers, working at primary and junior high schools, taught subjects such as Indonesian language, general classroom topics, and science. Purposive sampling was used to select participants, ensuring diverse cultural representation. Data collection occurred over October-November 2024, with interviews conducted in Indonesian and transcribed for thematic analysis based on Braun and Clarke's framework.Findings: Thematic analysis revealed six major themes: flexible classroom management, development of tolerance values, development of unity values, development of equitable services, utilization of local culture and wisdom, and Collaboration between students with different cultural backgrounds. Teachers reported the importance of adapting pedagogical approaches and curriculum content to accommodate diverse cultural needs, creating an inclusive and respectful learning environment.Significance: This study benefits educators, school administrators, and policymakers by providing insights into effective strategies for managing multicultural classrooms. It offers a practical framework to enhance cultural understanding, tolerance, and unity, contributing to the broader goals of multicultural education and social cohesion in diverse communities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas pentingnya pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi Zotero dan Connected Papers untuk mahasiswa FKIP Untan dalam mengelola referensi dan penulisan karya ilmiah. Zotero, sebagai alat manajemen referensi, membantu peneliti dalam mengorganisir dan mengutip sumber secara efisien. Aplikasi ini memungkinkan peneliti menyimpan, mengatur, dan mengutip referensi dengan mudah serta meningkatkan kolaborasi dan berbagi sumber daya. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan Zotero dan Connected Paper untuk menghindari plagiasi dan menyusun bibliografi sesuai gaya tertentu, serta mempersiapkan mereka dalam menyelesaikan tugas akhir dan mengumpulkan referensi relevan. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada 21 Oktober 2024 di Gedung Kuliah Bersama B dengan peserta sebanyak 46 mahasiswa semester pertama. Proses pelaksanaan melibatkan metode ceramah untuk penyampaian materi, demonstrasi praktik penggunaan aplikasi, diskusi interaktif untuk menjawab pertanyaan peserta, serta bimbingan kelompok dan individu dalam penginstalan dan pengoperasian aplikasi. Tahapan kegiatan mencakup perencanaan dengan studi pendahuluan, pelaksanaan pelatihan, serta evaluasi untuk memastikan capaian luaran, yakni peningkatan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam kajian literatur yang mendukung penulisan artikel ilmiah sesuai standar nasional maupun internasional. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa peserta dapat mengoperasikan aplikasi Zotero dan Connected Paper untuk mencari dan mengelola referensi penelitian dengan baik. Namun, terdapat hambatan seperti tidak semua peserta memiliki laptop, yang membatasi mereka dalam mengikuti praktik menggunakan aplikasi Zotero yang memerlukan perangkat tersebut. Selain itu, keterbatasan akses ke fitur premium pada Connected Paper juga menjadi kendala bagi beberapa peserta dalam mengakses lebih banyak kata kunci dan artikel terkait.

Abstract

Abstract: Using the UTAUT Model to Understand the Behavioral Intention to Use Mendeley Among Undergraduate Students of the Second Semester: Mixed Research Method. Objective: This study aims to uncover the factors that influence behavioral intention to use Mendeley among second-semester students at Tanjungpura University using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Furthermore, this study deepens the findings of the UTAUT factors with qualitative research. Methods: This study utilised a mixed research method: quantitative-qualitative. Sixty students using the Mendeley application who were studying in the second semester at the Faculty of Engineering, Tanjungpura University, in 2023 became respondents in this study. Quantitatively, data were collected through a survey with the help of Google Form which was then analysed using the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) statistical testing method. Qualitatively, this study utilised open-ended interviews with selected students to explain the findings of the quantitative research. Findings: Based on SEM analysis, the factor that has a high influence on Behavioural Intention (BI) is Social Influence (SI) followed by Performance Expectancy (PE), and finally Effort Expectancy (EE). These findings are confirmed in qualitative research which reveals that the biggest influence of Mendeley adoption is environmental influence, namely encouragement from lecturers and from peers and the influence of the performance of the Mendeley application which helps citation and bibliography. Conclusion: This study concludes that students responded positively to the Mendeley application, perceived it as an application that can help write academic texts, easy to learn, and recognized that the factors of support from lecturers and peer influence as the main factors of the reasons for adoption. The low EE factor was caused by several usage problems experienced by students when connecting Mendeley and Microsoft Word which often caused errors. Keywords: RMS, mendeley, behavioral intention, UTAUT, mixed method.DOI: http://doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i1.202441

Abstract

Pada era digital saat ini, banyak teknologi baru diciptakan untuk memudahkan orang-orang dalam melakukan tugas, termasuk penggunaan buku digital. Dengan hadirnya buku digital di kalangan mahasiswa, dapat mempermudah mereka untuk mencari berbagai referensi guna memenuhi berbagai tugas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan sikap mahasiswa terhadap bahan bacaan berbasis digital menggunakan bentuk penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah tanggapan mahasiswa yang menggambarkan sikap terhadap bahan bacaan berbasis digital. Data tersebut dikumpulkan melalui wawancara narasumber dari kalangan mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia Angkatan 2022 yang saat ini sedang menempuh semester keempat. Data yang telah didapatkan selanjutnya dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis data tematik untuk menemukan tema-tema yang muncul dalam data penelitian. Penelitian ini berhasil mengungkapkan beberapa tema mengenai sikap mahaisiswa terhadap buku digital yakni tema kegunaan dengan subtema meningkatkan efisiensi dan kualitas, menyediakan akses yang cepat, tema pengaruh sosial dengan subtema rekomendasi dari dosen, tema kondisi fasilitas dengan subtema memiliki beberapa sumber daya dan mempunyai kemampuan dasar, tema keberlanjutan penggunaan dengan sub tema memakai kembali dan menggunakan, dan tema hambatan penggunaan dengan subtema sulit dibaca dan berdampak pada kesehatan mata.

Abstract

Sastra lisan telah digunakan oleh masyarakat sejak dahulu dan telah menjadi bahan hiburan, pendidikan, dan kontrol sosial bagi masyarakat penggunanya. Sastra lisan mengandung banyak sekali simbol yang dapat mendeskripsikan budaya suatu masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis simbol budaya dalam nyanyian pengantar tidur masyarakat Melayu Sambas menggunakan bentuk penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori semiotik. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah kata, frasa, atau klausa yang mengandung simbol budaya yang dikumpulkan melalui sumber data penelitian yakni lagu pengantar tidur masyarakat Melayu Sambas yang berjudul  Burung Ceriak Data tersebut dikumpulkan melalui narasumber penelitian masyarakat Melayu Sambas yang mengetahui lagu tersebut dan masih menggunakan lagu tersebut sebagai lagu pengantar tidur melalui teknik wawancara dan dokumentasi. Data yang telah didapatkan dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis data tematik untuk menemukan tema-tema yang muncul dalam data penelitian. Penelitian ini berhasil mengungkapkan beberapa simbol budaya Melayu Sambas yakni simbol mata pencaharian dan simbol pendidikan. Maka dari itu dapat disimpulkan bahwa lagu Burung Ceriak mengandung simbol budaya Melayu Sambas sebagai pengguna sastra lisan tersebut.

Abstract

Digital developments make it easy for students to organize and collect literature through the PoP and Mendeley applications. Therefore, this workshop aims to provide understanding and ability to workshop participants in operating PoP and Mendeley to help the literature review process. The workshop was held on September 25, 2023 which was attended by 26 students of Indonesian Language Education Study Program, FKIP, Untan. This workshop was carried out with the help of methods 1) lecture, 2) practice, and 3) question and answer. In this workshop, participants were guided to practice the application of PoP and Mendeley directly. The pretest results showed that the participants did not know the application of PoP and Mendeley as a reference organizer and reference collection tool. After the training, there was an increase in students' ability to input citations, bring up bibliographies, and change citation styles using the Mendeley application and succeeded in providing test participants with an understanding and ability to function PoP as a research metadata collection tool. The interest of the test participants was very high and the workshop has succeeded in giving confidence to the participants that the Mendeley and PoP applications will be useful for them in the future, especially in writing academic texts, which shows that this workshop has succeeded in increasing students' knowledge and ability to utilize PoP and Mendeley in the reference collection process.
