Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve the professional competence of teachers at MTs Al-Ajhariyyah Cibitung, Bekasi, in developing interactive learning assessments based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) using the QuizWhizzer platform. The program applied Service Learning and Participatory Action Research approaches, including needs analysis, training, mentoring, and evaluation. Teachers gained conceptual knowledge of HOTS and practical skills in designing and implementing interactive quizzes with QuizWhizzer. The results showed improved teacher competence in developing assessment instruments that support students’ critical, analytical, and creative thinking. A four-item satisfaction questionnaire indicated that 71.4% of participants strongly agreed and 28.6% agreed that the training improved their understanding of HOTS-based assessment. In addition, 66.7% strongly agreed and 33.3% agreed that the use of QuizWhizzer was effective for interactive assessment, while 52.4% strongly agreed and 47.6% agreed that the facilitator’s explanations were clear. Moreover, 52.4% strongly agreed and 47.6% agreed that the training enhanced their teaching and assessment skills. This program contributes to improving learning quality in the digital era and supports the achievement of SDG 4 on quality education.    Abstrak Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi profesional guru MTs Al-Ajhariyyah Cibitung, Bekasi, dalam mengembangkan evaluasi pembelajaran interaktif berbasis Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) melalui pemanfaatan platform QuizWhizzer. Kegiatan dilaksanakan menggunakan pendekatan Service Learning dan Participatory Action Research yang meliputi analisis kebutuhan, pelatihan, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Guru dibekali pemahaman konseptual HOTS serta keterampilan teknis dalam merancang dan mengimplementasikan kuis interaktif berbasis QuizWhizzer. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru dalam menyusun instrumen evaluasi yang mendorong kemampuan berpikir kritis, analitis, dan kreatif siswa. Hasil angket kepuasan yang terdiri atas empat butir pertanyaan menunjukkan bahwa 71,4% peserta setuju dan 28,6% setuju bahwa pelatihan membantu memahami penilaian berbasis HOTS. Sebanyak 66,7% peserta menyatakan sangat setuju dan 33,3% setuju bahwa materi HOTS dan penggunaan QuizWhizzer efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan evaluasi pembelajaran interaktif, sementara 52,4% menyatakan sangat setuju dan 47,6% setuju bahwa penjelasan narasumber sangat mudah dipahami dan 52,4% menilai pelatihan sangat setuju dan 47,6% setuju bahwa pelatihan meningkatkan kompetensi mengajar dan mengevaluasi pembelajaran. Program ini berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran di era digital serta mendukung pencapaian SDGs poin ke-4, yaitu pendidikan berkualitas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need for developing interactive multimedia–based Qawa’id instructional materials for beginner-level students in the Arabic Language Education Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The research focuses on the needs analysis stage as an initial foundation for instructional material development. Data were collected through questionnaires, classroom observations, interviews, and document analysis involving 120 first-year students. The findings indicate that Qawa’id instruction still faces various challenges, particularly related to the limitations of instructional materials and learning media that tend to be theoretical and text-based, thereby hindering students’ understanding of abstract grammatical concepts. Questionnaire results reveal a very high level of need and interest in interactive multimedia–based Qawa’id materials that integrate visual, audio, animation, and interactive exercises. In addition, students demonstrate strong readiness to independently utilize digital instructional materials outside the classroom. Qualitative findings support the quantitative results, showing that visualization and contextual presentation enhance student engagement and comprehension. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the development of interactive multimedia–based Qawa’id instructional materials is an urgent and strategic necessity to improve the effectiveness of Qawa’id learning for beginner students and to serve as a conceptual foundation for the subsequent stages of instructional material development.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of character education among students in the distinguished and regular programs at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Cirebon. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research evaluates the effectiveness of the character education program, identifies differences between the two programs, and examines their impact on students' moral and ethical development. The findings aim to provide insights for developing more holistic character education strategies within educational institutions.

Abstract

Critical reading competence and reading self-efficacy are essential cognitive and affective components in foreign language learning, particularly in Arabic language education, where students must interpret complex linguistic, historical, and ethical texts. However, traditional reading instruction often emphasizes literal comprehension rather than analytical engagement, resulting in limited development of higher-order reading skills and learner confidence. This study investigates the effectiveness of problem-based critical Arabic reading instruction integrating Nabawi peace values in improving students’ critical reading achievement and reading self-efficacy. Employing a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, the study involved 21 undergraduate students enrolled in a Critical Arabic Reading course at a public university in Indonesia. The instructional intervention was conducted using authentic Arabic texts related to the Prophet Muhammad’s peace agreements, implemented through Problem-Based Learning stages including problem orientation, critical analysis, collaborative discussion, and reflective evaluation. Data were collected using a critical reading achievement test and a reading self-efficacy questionnaire validated through item-total correlation and reliability analysis (Cronbach’s alpha = .943–.948). Paired-sample t-test results revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ critical reading achievement (Mpre = 76.86, Mpost = 87.90, t(20) = −4.518, p < .001, Cohen’s d = 0.99) and reading self-efficacy (Mpre = 70.86, Mpost = 81.52, t(20) = −7.522, p < .001, Cohen’s d = 1.64). These findings indicate that problem-based critical Arabic reading integrating Nabawi peace values has a strong positive effect on both cognitive and affective learning outcomes. The integration of problem-based learning and peace-oriented instructional materials promotes analytical reading competence, enhances learner confidence, and fosters meaningful engagement with texts. This study contributes to Arabic language pedagogy by providing empirical evidence supporting a holistic instructional model integrating cognitive skill development, affective empowerment, and value-based learning.
