Abstract

This article discusses political ethics according to Badiuzzaman Said Nursi as a response to political pragmatism. This research departs from the rampant cases that reflect the pragmatic attitude of political elites. They prioritise profits and benefits over values and rules resulting in abuse of authority. This is due to the political elite leaving religious values as the basis of political ethics. Said Nursi has an interesting concept to answer the problem of political pragmatism. Nursi offers political ethics based on Islamic values. The findings of this article reveal that Said Nursi's political ethics are based on six basic principles including tawhid, consultation, freedom, justice, equality and nationalism. For Nursi, politics must be based on religion as a moral force that can control human desires and passions, religion becomes a solid foundation for creating prosperity and stability of the state. Thus, the purpose of politics is not self-satisfaction but to achieve the pleasure of Allah SWT and realise the benefit of the people. This research is a qualitative study with a critical analysis method uses Risale-i Nur as the primary reference and secondary in the form of related scientific works.

Abstract

Desacralization of politics is a thought born from a Western secular perspective, aiming to separate religion from politics. It has a bad influence on human life both in epistemologically and methodologically aspects. In addition, this thought also had an impact and was adopted by Muslim scholars, one of which was Ali Abdul Raziq in his secular political theory. Ali argues that "The message of the Prophet is purely a religious message", and "Political matters are only a matter of reason and human experimentation". As an effort to diagnose and treat the negative impact of desacralization of politics on these Muslim scholars, it is necessary to implement the Islamization of knowledge initiated by al-Attas. Through library research with a descriptive analysis approach, it can be concluded that, firstly, the Islamization of knowledge can be carried out in two steps, de-westernization and integration. Secondly, as a result of this Islamization, Ali Abdul Raziq's political thought which was originally secular can be Islamized into, "The message of the Messenger of Allah is a treatise that covers the affairs of the world and the hereafter" and "Political matters must be left to revelation, reason and human experimentation which do not conflict with revelation.

Abstract

Dynasty politics is currently being hotly discussed in the public because Dynasty Politics is considered to be destroying the democratic system that already operates within the country. Dynastic politics must be prevented immediately because it has the potential to have a negative impact on a country's government. Jamaluddin Al Afghani is an Islamic cleric who operates in the political field. With his intelligence, he has been able to create ideas that can have a big influence on Muslims, namely Pan-Islamism. This article aims to present the idea of Pan-Islamism as a means of prevention against the continuous Politics of the Dynasty. In writing this article, the author uses a qualitative descriptive method by collecting primary and secondary data. With the idea of Pan-Islamism, it is hoped that Dynasty Politics can be prevented by using five methods, including: empowering the people in the political process, monitoring and accountability, fighting against nepotism, spreading patience and political education, and finally collaboration between movements in opposing Dynasty Politics.

Abstract

This study analyzes Islamic political philosophy in al-Farabi's thought. This research is a literature research that uses descriptive analysis methods and qualitative analysis. Al-Farabi put forward the concept of al-Madinah al-Fadilah to reconcile faith and reason. The concept of government in al-Farabi's theory is based on the leadership style and tradition of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), an apostle and caliph. In addition, in this theory the concept of good character is influenced by the ideas of Plato and Aristotle, especially the idea that views humans as social beings. Al-Farabi was also heavily influenced by the social and political movements of the Abbasid period, political conflicts, riots, political stability, and insecurity were the main causes of this idea. The principles embodied in almost all forms of intellectuals born outside the Islamic world show great differences with Greek philosophy, especially in addressing the challenges of the times, to God and the world These influences show that Islamic thought is different from other forms of thought.

Abstract

This article discusses Mustafa Sabri's critical perspective on political secularism, focusing on the dangers, nature, and consequences of the separation of religion and state. Mustafa Sabri, a prominent Muslim in the first half of the 20th century, sharply criticized the ideology of secularism, and revealed that the ideology is not only an ideological deviation, but also an evil plan to abandon religion. Mustafa Sabri identified the essence of secularism as the separation between Islamic governance and religious principles, described religion as the loss of authority over governance, and pointed out negative consequences such as the loss of morality and degradation of values. This paper provides a detailed overview of Mustafa Sabri's views on political secularism, discusses his critique of the dangers of secularism, explains in detail the nature of the separation of religion and state, and describes the possible negative impacts for Islam. This paper is useful for those who want to understand the Islamic perspective on political secularism.

Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the vision, mission and work program of Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar through the lens of Mohammad Natsir's thoughts which are full of Islamic teachings. This study aims to examine whether the vision, mission, and work programs of Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar contain elements of Islamic religious values. Given the number of Indonesian people reaching 86.7% who adhere to Islam more than other religions, the values of Islamic teachings are in the spotlight. This research is qualitative research with a case study approach. The data analysis will go through three important steps, namely data reduction, data display and data conclusion. This study found that the implementation of Islamic principles is very visible in the vision and mission of Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar. By referring to the concept of maqashid shari'ah and direct observation of the conditions of Indonesian society in its various regions, this pair succeeded in outlining ideas that are expected to improve welfare and unite all Indonesian people. In their vision and mission, there is a system of government that is in line with Moh. Natsir's thinking. The concept of democracy emphasized by Natsir, which includes principles such as justice, the rejection of exploitation and poverty, the use of wealth for the benefit of society, and deliberation in decision-making processes that affect the people, appears to be reflected in Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar's views on state development and organization.

Abstract

Religion and power are two inseparable aspects in Islam. In fact, power itself is a vital component of religious duty, as human well-being cannot be fulfilled without it. Therefore, Al-Maududi emphasized the importance of this issue, which he articulated in his theory of Islamic governance. This article will discuss the philosophy of law in Al-Maududi’s theory of Islamic governance. Based on library research, qualitative data, and a descriptive-analytical approach, the following conclusions can be drawn: first, Al-Maududi’s theory of Islamic governance is unique compared to other theories due to its balanced concept of sovereignty, neither excessive nor dismissive. Second, this theory is supported by fundamental principles of governance. Third, the theory is further supported by three essential institutions that Al-Maududi formulated: legislative, executive, and judicial. All of this demonstrates the significance of both religion and politics in Islam.

Abstract

In the discourse of Islamic political thought, spanning both pre-modern and contemporary eras, the concept of "shura" (consultation) holds significant importance among Muslim scholars, particularly Islamic political thinkers. One prominent figure in this domain during the modern era is Sayyid Muhammad Rashid Ridha. His noteworthy contributions to political thought are encapsulated in his seminal work, "Khilafot aw al-Imamat al-Uzma." His ideas are regarded as insightful and remain relevant in current political discussions. Rida contends that "shura" should serve as the cornerstone in the system of Islamic governance.
