Abstract

Abstract

The Strategic Role of Halal Products in Empowering the Muslim Economy Halal products play a strategic role in empowering the Muslim economy, especially in Muslim-majority countries like Indonesia. This article aims to analyze the effectiveness of promoting halal products through digital da'wah approaches, branding strategies, and halal regulations in driving the growth of the halal industry and empowering the Muslim economy. The use of social media as a means of digital da'wah has proven effective in raising public awareness about the importance of consuming halal products. Halal branding strategies that leverage certification, Islamic imagery, and sharia-compliant marketing communication have successfully built consumer loyalty and increased product competitiveness in the global market. Furthermore, the implementation of halal regulations—particularly Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Law provides a strong legal foundation for the development of the halal industry. Case studies from halal cosmetic brand Wardah and several MSMEs show that digital transformation accelerates market penetration and operational efficiency in halal businesses. This article concludes that the integration of digital da'wah campaigns, branding strategies, supportive regulations, and digitalization of the halal industry significantly contributes to the growth of sharia-compliant businesses and the economic well-being of the Muslim community. Recommendations are offered to industry players, policymakers, and the public to strengthen the halal ecosystem through continuous collaboration and innovation.

Abstract

This study examines the role of the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) in promoting Islamic philanthropic da’wah, particularly through the distribution of waqf as a strategy for empowering the Muslim community’s economy in Indonesia. Waqf, as one of the core instruments of Islamic philanthropy, has substantial potential to reduce social inequality and improve community welfare. However, low public literacy about waqf, the lack of professionalism among waqf managers (nazhir), and limited use of digital technology remain key challenges. Using a qualitative approach through literature studies, observation, and document analysis, the study finds that BWI has implemented a transformative da’wah strategy by optimizing cross-sector collaboration, digital technology utilization, and community education. The results reveal that BWI's collaboration with Islamic financial institutions, government ministries, and civil society organizations has enhanced public engagement and the distribution of cash waqf, productive waqf, and waqf-based MSME programs. Moreover, the use of social media, mobile applications, and the waqf information system has expanded outreach and improved management transparency. This study concludes that the integration of da’wah, technology, and collaboration is essential in strengthening waqf as a viable tool for Islamic economic development. Moving forward, regulatory reform, comprehensive digitalization, and local community empowerment must become strategic priorities to sustain the national Islamic philanthropic ecosystem.

Abstract

This research examines the constitutional legitimacy of the national zakat system through the role of the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) after the 2023 Constitutional Court decision and explores the challenges and opportunities for digitalization integration in zakat governance to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with PRISMA guidelines. Data sourced from the Scopus database using strategic keywords related to zakat, resulting in 209 articles which were then filtered into 41 studies that were worth analysis. A selection process ensures transparency and consistency, while thematic analysis focuses on issues of legal legitimacy, zakat governance, and digital transformation. The results of the analysis revealed three main findings. First, the constitutional legitimacy of BAZNAS strengthens the integration of zakat into national law while expanding its socio-economic function. Second, the digitization of zakat, especially through e-zakat and blockchain technology, has significant potential to increase efficiency, transparency, and public participation, although it still faces obstacles related to digital literacy and public trust. Third, zakat has been proven to contribute significantly to poverty alleviation and the achievement of the SDGs; However, its long-term effectiveness still requires further validation through more in-depth and cross-country empirical studies. This research emphasizes the importance of strengthening zakat governance based on sharia principles that are integrated with state law, while encouraging the adoption of modern technology. Future research needs to be directed at cross-border comparison models, the development of innovative digital platforms, as well as multidisciplinary approaches that synergize law, economics, and technology to ensure zakat remains relevant in the context of globalization and future socio-economic challenges.

Abstract

This study examines the factors that influence the intention and actual behavior of Muslim viewers in watching edutainment television. It applies an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) in which religiosity serves both as a direct predictor and as a moderator of the link between intention and behavior. Survey data were collected from 216 Muslim respondents in the Jakarta metropolitan. The data were analyzed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that religiosity significantly predicts the intention to watch and actual viewing of edutainment television. Behavioral intention is the strongest predictor of actual viewing. Religiosity also positively moderates the relationship between intention and actual viewing. The study implies that value-based constructs must be incorporated into TAM when the object of adoption is religiously meaningful content, and that religiosity serves as a bridging mechanism in the intention-to-behavior relationship rather than merely as an additional antecedent. The study is limited by a purposive sample drawn from a single metropolitan region and by a cross-sectional, self-reported design.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sustainable business model of Sharia Umrah travel and its contribution to the Muslim community economy in the era of digital service transformation. The research employs a qualitative approach using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by examining reputable scientific articles indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect databases. The findings reveal that the integration of sustainable strategy, business model innovation, and digital transformation contributes significantly to the development of sustainable business practices through the synergy of economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Digitalization functions as a strategic enabler that enhances operational efficiency, service transparency, and the overall experience of Umrah pilgrims. Furthermore, Sharia Umrah travel contributes to the Muslim community economy through job creation, the expansion of Islamic financial inclusion, and the strengthening of the halal ecosystem. However, the implementation of sustainable business models still faces challenges related to technological adoption gaps and the lack of comprehensive strategic integration. The originality of this study lies in the development of an integrative conceptual framework that combines sustainable strategy, business model innovation, digital transformation, and maqashid shariah within a holistic perspective, which remains underexplored in previous studies. Theoretically, this study contributes to the advancement of sustainable strategy literature within the context of Islamic economics. Practically, it provides strategic insights for industry practitioners in designing adaptive, sustainable, and welfare-oriented Sharia Umrah travel business models. Keywords: Sustainable strategy, Digital transformation, Business model innovation, Sharia Umrah travel, Muslim community economy.

Abstract

This article asks how Islamic higher education institutions (PTKI) in Indonesia produce television edutainment, and it treats that work as an institutionalized form of pedagogical da'wah and as a space for integrative Islamic education. Research on Islamic media has concentrated on audiences, social-media preachers, and reception, while the production side inside formal academic institutions has stayed largely out of view. The study answers three questions: how television edutainment becomes institutionalized as pedagogical da'wah, how producers translate integrative Islamic values into entertaining formats, and what constraints shape the work. The design is a qualitative multi-case study of three PTKI media units, SUN TV at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, UNINUS TV at Universitas Islam Nusantara Bandung, and DNK TV at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, drawing on 30 in-depth interviews, 18 participatory observation sessions, organizational documents and digital media archives, and 3 focus group discussions collected from April to September 2025, analyzed through data reduction, display, and verification together with cross-case thematic analysis. Three findings emerged at the level of production practice and producer intention. Production at these sites is an institutional extension of classroom teaching and da'wah rather than stand-alone broadcasting. Producers carry integrative Islamic values into entertaining formats through story, dramatization, dialogue, and humor, within ethical limits that this study reads through maqāṣid al-sharī'ah as the authors' interpretive lens rather than as the producers' own vocabulary. Production remains a negotiated practice, shaped by unstable human resources, uneven infrastructure, and the pull between religious dignity and audience appeal. The study proposes moral media work as an analytical concept derived from three cases rather than as a validated theory. Because audience reception and learning outcomes were not investigated, claims about educational value describe producer intention rather than demonstrated effects, and implications for madrasah and pesantren require empirical testing.

Abstract

Waqf plays an important role in empowering the ummah, whether economically, socially, or educationally. Effective waqf management depends on the quality of the nazir, who is responsible for waqf assets. The Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) plays an important role in nazir coaching to ensure productive waqf management. This study aims to examine BWI's nazir coaching strategy and its impact on community empowerment. With a literature study-based qualitative approach, this research analyzes coaching programs such as administrative, managerial, and spiritual training. The results show that BWI's coaching has succeeded in improving the capacity of nazir in waqf management, especially in terms of managerial and leadership. However, challenges related to the diversity of nazir backgrounds and limited resources still exist. Although technical coaching is sufficient, social and spiritual aspects need to be improved. This study concludes that a more holistic and adaptive coaching strategy is needed to support sustainable waqf-based philanthropy.[Wakaf memiliki peran penting dalam pemberdayaan umat, baik secara ekonomi, sosial, maupun pendidikan.

Abstract

While scholarship on women’s leadership in higher education has grown considerably, the lived experiences of women academic leaders in Islamic institutions remain undertheorised, especially with respect to the contradictory work that religion performs in shaping leadership trajectories. Drawing on intersectionality and theories of religious agency, this study explored how women academic leaders in Islamic higher education across Indonesia, Pakistan, and Malaysia negotiated barriers, mobilized enabling conditions, and built pathways to empowerment. The research used a phenomenological multiple-case design, with twelve leaders chosen through purposive sampling guided by Malterud’s principle of information power. Data came from in-depth interviews, institutional documents, and observations, and were analyzed thematically following Braun and Clarke’s six-phase approach with NVivo 14. Credibility rested on triangulation, member checking, and collaborative coding within a multinational research team. The analysis identified four interlocking barrier categories spanning structural, interpretive, social-familial, and individual dimensions, together with four corresponding enabler categories. Cross-country asymmetries were pronounced. Structural barriers dominated in Pakistan, interpretive barriers in Indonesia, while Malaysia’s 30% representation policy generated comparatively stronger institutional support. Religion worked paradoxically, serving as a personal source of empowerment for most participants while constraining others through patriarchal interpretations rather than through faith itself. The sample of twelve leaders supports analytical rather than statistical generalization and does not capture intra-national variation across pesantren, madrasa, and secular Islamic universities. The study advances the Dual Process Model of Religion and the Islamic Women’s Leadership Empowerment Framework, offering policy-relevant insights for institutional reform across Muslim educational contexts.
