Abstract

Researchers implemented the PQ4R method to improve reading comprehension skills in fourth-grade students. This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, which was conducted in two cycles. In its implementation, researchers inserted innovations in the form of the use of image media as a supporting tool for learning activities. This was done because researchers found that students tended to be less enthusiastic in reading texts that only consisted of writing without images. In addition, students quickly became bored with individual learning methods without any interesting variations. The application of the PQ4R method (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) with the support of image media aimed to motivate students to be more active in learning and understanding the material presented. The results of the study showed a significant increase in students' reading comprehension skills. In cycle 1, only about 60% of students showed good understanding, while in cycle 2, this figure increased to 94%. This increase indicates that the use of image media in learning can help students understand the material better and increase their interest in reading. Therefore, the application of the PQ4R method accompanied by image media has proven effective in improving the reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade students. Thus, this research can be concluded as successful, and can be used as a reference for similar learning methods in other classes.

Abstract

Stunting in toddlers is a significant health problem in Indonesia, with a prevalence reaching 24.4% in 2021. Although in Wanajaya Village, stunting cases have been successfully reduced to 0%, the problem of malnutrition in children is still common. Good nutritional status is very important for the growth and development of children, especially toddlers, who need a balanced nutritional intake. One solution to increase children's nutritional intake is to utilize fruits as part of their daily diet. However, children often prefer sweet foods to fresh fruit. This study aims to introduce the manufacture of gummy candy from real fruit juice as an alternative healthy snack that can increase fruit consumption in children. By replacing sugar with honey, this gummy candy provides nutritional benefits without damaging dental health or triggering sugar addiction. The training held in Wanajaya Village aims to increase parental awareness of the importance of fruit consumption and provide skills in making healthy snacks. It is hoped that this training can help parents in overcoming children's nutritional problems and encourage better fruit consumption.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the continued use of the lecture method in mathematics learning, particularly in the topic of integer addition and subtraction in Grade 2 at SDN Tambun 05. Based on observations and interviews, it was found that the teacher had never implemented the Problem Based Learning or Think Pair Share models in classroom activities. Therefore, the researcher was interested in comparing students' conceptual understanding through the application of these two models. This study aims to determine the differences in conceptual understanding of integer addition and subtraction between students who were taught using the Problem Based Learning model and those taught using the Think Pair Share model. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of students in class 2A as the first experimental group using the Problem Based Learning model, and students in class 2B as the second experimental group using the Think Pair Share model, with 28 students in each class. The results of the study showed a difference in conceptual understanding between the two groups. In class 2A, which used the Problem Based Learning model, the average post-test score of conceptual understanding was 84.71, while the pre-test score was 61.42, showing an increase of 23.29 points. In class 2B, which used the Think Pair Share model, the average post-test score was 79.85, while the pre-test score was 70.35, resulting in an increase of 9.5 points. Based on the results of the hypothesis test using the independent sample t-test, a significance value of 0.036 (p < 0.05) was obtained, indicating a significant difference in conceptual understanding between students who learned through Problem Based Learning and those who learned through Think Pair Share
