Abstract

Writing is a complex language skill because it requires mastery of structure, idea development, and accurate linguistic rules. In the context of the Independent Curriculum, the ability to write popular scientific articles is crucial for strengthening the literacy of junior high school (SMP/MTs) students. However, classroom learning practices still show low structural regularity and idea development due to minimal gradual guidance. This study aims to describe the implementation of the scaffolding approach in teaching popular scientific articles to eighth-grade students at MTsN 2 Bungo and identify supporting and inhibiting factors. This study used a qualitative research type with an instrumental case study design. Data were obtained through learning observations, document analysis of 32 student articles, and interviews with teachers and students. Then, they were analyzed descriptively through stages of reduction, categorization, and thematic interpretation with triangulation of sources and techniques. The results showed that scaffolding was implemented gradually through providing intensive assistance in the initial stage, simplifying tasks, providing examples and feedback, and reducing assistance (fading). Most students were able to structure texts in a more organized manner, develop ideas logically, and show improvements in linguistic aspects and writing independence. It was concluded that the scaffolding approach effectively improves the quality of the writing process and products while encouraging students' learning independence, and is relevant to the learning principles in the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan bahasa gaul terhadap kemampuan berbahasa Indonesia formal di kalangan mahasiswa Universitas Jambi melalui media sosial. Fenomena penggunaan bahasa gaul yang semakin meluas dalam interaksi digital mendorong perlunya kajian empiris mengenai dampaknya terhadap keberlangsungan bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan teknik survei dan melibatkan 241 responden mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia. Instrumen penelitian diuji menggunakan uji validitas, reliabilitas, uji normalitas, dan homogenitas. Analisis data dilakukan dengan regresi linear sederhana melalui IBM SPSS Statistics 27. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat penggunaan bahasa gaul pada mahasiswa berada pada kategori tinggi, sementara kemampuan berbahasa Indonesia formal tetap berada pada kategori baik. Seluruh instrumen dinyatakan valid dan reliabel serta memenuhi asumsi analisis. Namun, hasil uji regresi menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bahasa gaul tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbahasa Indonesia formal (sig. > 0,05), sehingga Ho diterima dan Ha ditolak. Dengan demikian, penggunaan bahasa gaul di media sosial tidak secara langsung menurunkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan bahasa Indonesia formal, selama penggunaannya tetap disesuaikan dengan konteks komunikasi.

Abstract

customs in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency, Indonesia. This study used a qualitative method with a literature review. The main source of data is the book Adat Istiadat Perkawinan dan Hukum Adat Daerah Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Timur (Marriage Customs and Local Customary Law in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency) by Effendi (2018), which contains documentation of traditional marriage Seloko. Data analysis was conducted using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory through the stages of signifier, signified, denotative meaning, and connotative meaning. The validity of the data was strengthened through source and technique triangulation by confirming with local customary institutions. The results of the study show that seloko in the traditional marriage procession contains various symbolic meanings related to responsibility, family honor, deliberation, ethics in household management, wisdom, solidarity, and respect for parents. Each stage of the tradition, from merisik to hari labuh, contains seloko that reinforces cultural messages and strengthens the identity of the Malay community. This study confirms that seloko is not merely an oral tradition but also a representation of local wisdom that is still relevant to the community’s social life.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the linguistic structure of the explanatory text in the Indonesian language book for Class VIII published by the Ministry of Education and Culture Revised Edition 2017. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. This research data is in the form of descriptions of words, sentences and paragraphs narrated after an in-depth analysis process. The data collection techniques were literature study and documentation study. In this study, the researcher used data analysis with stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the explanatory texts of Prince Diponegoro, Development of Bandung Regency, Energy Flow, and Fossil Formation completely fulfilled the three parts of the explanatory text structure consisting of general statements, sequence of events and reviews.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the problem-based learning model in writing report texts based on observations of class VIII students at Ahmad Dahlan Middle School, Jambi City. The research uses quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental type of research. Data collection techniques include tests, observation, and documentation. The subjects of this research were class VIII students at Ahmad Dahlan Middle School, Jambi City. The population in this study was in class VIII of Ahmad Dahlan Middle School, Jambi City, and there were four classes totaling 122 students. The sample in this study was class VIII A, consisting of 30 students, and class VIII B, consisting of 29 students. The research results show that the use of the problem-based learning model influences student learning outcomes in writing observation report texts. The ability to write student observation report text increases due to the use of a learning-based model. This was proven in the posttest, where the control class got an average score of 77.55. Meanwhile, the experimental class posttest was 84.96. In the control class posttest, the lowest score was 67, while the lowest score in the experimental class posttest was 80, and the highest score in the control class posttest was 89, which experienced an increase in the experimental class posttest, namely 92.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ability to write persuasion using image media in class VIII students of SMPN 14 Jambi City using a quantitative descriptive approach. The number of subjects in this study was 31, namely class VIII A. The data research instrument in this study was a performance test for writing persuasive text. Assessment in writing persuasive text is based on the structure and linguistic rules, namely the existence of a series of arguments, facts, invitations, and the use of argumentative conjunctions. Furthermore, students write persuasive texts using image media. Data analysis in this study is the work of students who are examined by two assessors, namely teachers and researchers. The results of this study show that the ability to write persuasive texts using image media of class VIII A students in the aspect of writing a series of arguments gets an average score of 77, the ability to write facts gets an average score of 73.5, writing invitations gets an average score of 74.8, and the ability to use linguistic rules gets an average score of 75.4.

Abstract

This study examines the lexical variation of the Kerinci language across Pulau Tengah, Benik, and Jujun Villages in Keliling Danau District, Kerinci Regency, in response to linguistic diversity shaped by geographical and socio-cultural dynamics. The research addresses the question of how lexical differences manifest among these speech communities and to what extent such differences indicate dialectal variation. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study utilizes 200 basic vocabulary items based on the Morris Swadesh list, with data collected through observation, interviews, elicitation, recording, and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed through transcription, identification, classification, and dialectometric calculation. The findings reveal that 36 out of 200 glosses exhibit lexical variation, indicating differences in form while maintaining similar meanings across the three villages. Dialectometric analysis shows a difference percentage of 16%, which falls within the “no significant difference” category (0%–20%). These results suggest that despite observable lexical variation, the Kerinci language in the three locations remains relatively homogeneous, influenced by close geographical proximity, social interaction, and shared cultural practices.

Abstract

This research implements Leech and Grice's language politeness maxims in the development of Speaking teaching materials. The goal is to produce a product of Speaking Teaching Materials Based on Language Politeness. The method used to achieve this goal is Research and Development with the procedure of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation. The method used to determine the feasibility of teaching material products developed is the questionnaire method of validation of language politeness material experts, teaching material readability experts, teaching material book graphics experts and teaching material user practitioners. The overall data obtained through the questionnaire is processed with descriptive statistics. Using Likert scale criteria, the results of expert validation show that the aspect of the material aspect of language politeness has a percentage of 88.66% with a very valid category, the graphical aspect of the teaching material book gets a percentage of 93.33% with a very valid category. The user practitioner test obtained the feasibility of teaching material products of 94.98% with a very feasible category. The results of the expert validation test and practitioner test show a percentage far above 61%. Thus, the product of Speaking Based on Language Politeness teaching materials produced is feasible to be implemented in the lecture process. AbstrakPenelitian ini mengimplementasikan maksim-maksim kesantunan berbahasa Leech dan Grice dalam pengembangan bahan ajar Berbicara. Tujuannya adalah untuk menghasilkan produk bahan ajar Berbicara Berbasis Kesantunan Berbahasa. Metode yang digunakan untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut adalah Research and Development dengan prosedur Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation. Metode untuk mengetahui kelayakan produk bahan ajar yang dikembangkan adalah metode angket validasi ahli materi kesantunan berbahasa, ahli keterbacaan bahan ajar, ahli grafika buku bahan ajar, dan praktisi pengguna bahan ajar. Keseluruhan data yang diperoleh melalui angket diolah dengan statistik deskriptif. Dengan menggunakan kriteria skala likert, hasil validasi ahli menunjukkan bahwa aspek materi kesantunan berbabahasa memilki persentase 88,66% dengan kategori sangat valid; aspek keterbacaan bahan ajar memeroleh persentase 97,33% dengan kategori sangat valid; aspek grafika buku bahan ajar memeroleh persentase 93,33% dengan kategori sangat valid.  Uji prktisi pengguna diperoleh kelayakan produk buku bahan ajar sebesar 94,98% dengan kategori sangat layak. Hasil uji validasi ahli dan uji praktisi tersebut menunjukkan persentase jauh di atas 61%. Dengan demikian, produk bahan ajar Berbicara Berbasis Kesantunan Berbahasa yang dihasilkan layak diimplementasikan dalam proses perkuliahan.
