Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the role of facilitators in managing constructivist classrooms among English Education students and to analyze the practices and challenges encountered in implementing this approach. As the constructivist approach in education becomes more prevalent, it is crucial to understand how prospective English teachers perform their roles as facilitators. This research provides relevant insights for the professional development of students and the enhancement of future teaching quality. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 15 English Education students and direct classroom observations. The questionnaire covered aspects of beliefs, attitudes, and practices in the facilitative role. Analysis was conducted to evaluate students' assessments of their roles, and to identify patterns and challenges in teaching practices. The results indicate that the average rating for teachers' beliefs about their facilitative role is 4.5, with student interaction receiving the highest rating (4.8). Although there is strong belief in the effectiveness of constructivist learning, some teachers remain neutral regarding its comparison with traditional teaching methods. In practice, many teachers use problem-based projects (average rating 4.0) and support active student participation in discussions (average rating 4.6). Technology use in teaching remains uneven (average rating 4.1), and there is room for improvement in providing in-depth and constructive feedback (average rating 4.5). The study identifies challenges such as time constraints, variability in student abilities, and access to technology, and provides recommendations for further training and support for teachers to enhance the implementation of constructivist approaches in the classroom.

Abstract

This study examines the critical reading skills of seventh-grade students at SMP N 5 Padangsidimpuan. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, the research assessed 30 students through a critical reading test based on Nurhadi's six aspects of critical reading: remembering explicit facts, interpreting implied meanings, applying concepts, analyzing content, synthesizing content, and evaluating reading material. Results indicate that students demonstrate very good abilities in five aspects, with scores ranging from 80 to 100, particularly excelling in remembering explicit facts (scores of 97-100) and evaluating content (scores of 90-97). However, synthesizing reading content emerged as an area needing improvement, with scores of 70 and 57. The overall average score of 85 places students' critical reading abilities in the "Very Good" category according to Arikunto's rating scale. These findings suggest that while students have developed strong foundations in most aspects of critical reading, targeted instruction in synthesizing information would benefit their comprehensive critical reading development. The study recommends implementing diverse reading materials, collaborative learning activities, and cross-curricular integration of critical reading skills to enhance students' abilities, particularly in synthesizing textual information.

Abstract

The incorporation of multimedia resources in physics education has become a crucial approach for improving student understanding by combining verbal and visual components. This investigation utilizes a mixed-methods design to assess the impact of multimedia tools on student participation and comprehension in physics courses. Quantitative information was gathered through assessments before and after the intervention, while qualitative data was obtained from student interviews and in-class observations. The study involved creating tailored multimedia materials, which were subsequently integrated into lessons. Quantitative data underwent statistical analysis, including paired t-tests, while qualitative findings were examined using thematic analysis. The results revealed a substantial increase in student engagement from 45% without multimedia to 85% with its use. Additionally, the post-test mean score (79.3 ± 8.81) exceeded the pre-test average (58.5 ± 12.65), suggesting enhanced understanding and uniformity among students. Qualitative outcomes highlighted multimedia's contribution to clarifying intricate concepts, improving communication abilities, and promoting collaborative learning. The research concludes that the strategic integration of multimedia tools within cooperative frameworks can establish a vibrant, interactive learning environment, considerably enhancing students' conceptual grasp and preparing them for future academic and career challenges.

Abstract

Educational tourism is tourism related to learning. One of the tours used is Bagas Godang Pijorkoling. The lack of promotion in this case has caused Bagas Godang Pijorkoling to be less well known to the public. The method used is using situation analysis related to observations made on objects, preparation, namely using interview instruments which will later be used during implementation, carrying out socialization about educational tourism and evaluation to see participant responses. The results obtained were that the Bagas Godang socialization activity provided a positive response to the socialization participants so that this socialization was said to be successful. This socialization participant also hopes that with this activity it will be realized that Bagas Godang will be used as an educational tourist attraction in Padangsidimpuan City to improve the standard of living of the surrounding community

Abstract

Program PKM ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru dalam pengelolaan kelas konstruktivis melalui program pendampingan yang meliputi workshop dan pelatihan. Fokus dari program ini adalah pada penerapan prinsip-prinsip konstruktivisme dalam pengajaran, penggunaan teknologi, dan pemberian umpan balik konstruktif. Program ini dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 3 Padangsidimpuan dan melibatkan guru dari berbagai jenjang pendidikan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar guru merasa materi workshop relevan (92%) dan mengalami peningkatan pemahaman tentang konstruktivisme (88%) serta keterampilan pengajaran (85%). Peningkatan motivasi untuk menerapkan konstruktivisme tercatat sebesar 90%, sementara kesiapan menggunakan teknologi mencapai 87%. Penggunaan teknik konstruktivis di kelas juga meningkat secara signifikan, dengan penggunaan teknik eksplorasi naik dari 30% menjadi 75%, penggunaan proyek berbasis masalah dari 25% menjadi 70%, penggunaan teknologi dari 35% menjadi 80%, dan pemberian umpan balik konstruktif dari 40% menjadi 85%. Umpan balik dari guru menunjukkan manfaat signifikan dari program pendampingan, dengan saran untuk perbaikan mencakup penyediaan lebih banyak sumber daya dan dukungan tambahan. Program ini berhasil memberikan dampak positif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan pengajaran dan motivasi guru dalam menerapkan pendekatan konstruktivis.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk melaksanakan pelatihan dan sosialisasi mengenai implementasi Sapta Pesona dalam pengembangan destinasi pariwisata di Kota Padangsidimpuan, Sumatera Utara. Melalui program ini, masyarakat lokal diberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan yang diperlukan untuk mengelola destinasi pariwisata dengan lebih efektif dan berkelanjutan. Selain itu, terjadi sosialisasi yang mendalam mengenai pentingnya melestarikan budaya dan lingkungan dalam konteks pariwisata. Hasil dari pelaksanaan program ini menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan kesadaran masyarakat lokal dalam mengelola dan mempromosikan destinasi pariwisata mereka. Terbentuknya kerjasama yang erat antara masyarakat lokal, pemerintah daerah, dan pihak terkait lainnya juga menjadi salah satu hasil yang penting dari program ini. Dengan demikian, program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berhasil menciptakan dampak positif dalam pengembangan pariwisata lokal yang berkelanjutan dan berkualitas.

Abstract

Strengthening character is a common trait that exists in society. Al Azhar Bi'ibadillah Tahalak Islamic Boarding School in South Tapanuli which always instills positive character in schools. In this activity, students previously did not understand character building in South Tapanuli culture. Through this activity, 50 students took part in this activity. This activity is within the South Tapanuli Culture. The community service team explains about Dalihan Natolu in relation to character strengthening. The method used in this activity is preparation, namely observation, implementation, evaluation and follow-up. Through this activity, the student response was obtained that 90% said they agreed with the activity and it attracted students so that students became more aware that character in culture is very important, this is because we as members of society must show positive character based on South Tapauli culture. which in spoken culture is highly valued in society. In Dalihan Natolu, there is also the strengthening of character, there is cooperation that is carried out when there is work in the community.
