Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve partners’ knowledge and skills regarding vaccination as an effort to control diseases caused by pathogenic organisms, particularly aeromoniasis, which is induced by Aeromonas spp. The partner group consists of fish farmers in Dukuh Waluh Village, Banyumas Regency. The implementation method employed a participatory approach, consisting of four stages: socialization, training, mentoring, and evaluation. The evaluation instruments included questionnaires and interviews, analyzed using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The results of this program showed that 85% of partner members understood fish disease management, an increase from 50% (exceeding the 80% target), and 85% were able to comprehend and implement fish vaccination practices, an improvement from 42.5% (also exceeding the 80% target). The activity also proved successful in achieving a fish survival rate of 95% in the vaccinated group—surpassing the target of 80%—while the control group (unvaccinated fish) reached only 50%. Overall, the evaluation results indicate that this community service activity effectively assisted partners in addressing fish disease issues and improving aquaculture production performance.

Abstract

The waste problem in Dukuhwaluh Village was still a lot of household waste thrown away in any places. This household waste causes unpleasant odors, environmental pollution, various disease outbreaks, aesthetic disturbances, and flooding during the rainy season. Another problem encountered in Dukuhwaluh Village is the provision of feed for catfish farmers, the price of which is increasingly expensive. This causes the development of the catfish farming business to be very slow and even threatened with collapse. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of fish farmers in Dukuh Waluh Village in cultivating maggots using media from household organic waste. This community service activity also aims to develop magot as an alternative fish food that is cheap, has high nutritional value and is environmentally friendly. The implementation of this community service uses research-based community empowerment methods. Meanwhile, the approach method used in implementing community service is active and collaborative participation. The results of community service activities can increase the knowledge and skills of the Dukuhwaluh Village fish farmer in maggot cultivation. The fish farmer group has also been able to practice magot cultivation using household organic waste properly and correctly, as well as applying the results of maggot cultivation to feed catfish. Throughout an 80-day cultivation period, catfish fed a combination of commercial feed and maggots demonstrated an average daily weight gain of 1.5 grams and achieved a feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 1.2. The incorporation of maggots as an alternative protein source was able to substitute up to 45% of the commercial feed without compromising growth performance.

Abstract

Fish feed is the largest component in freshwater fish cultivation. Feed costs reach 60%-70% of total production costs. The availability of sufficient fish food, both in quality and quantity, is one of the key factors in the success of fish farming. Good quality fish feed not only has high protein content, but also has good physical properties, one of which is buoyancy. Mitra is the Mina Mandiri group in Panembangan Village, Cilongok District, Banyumas Regency which has problems in producing quality fish feed. This activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of partners in making good quality fish food, which has a protein content that suits the fish's needs and has good buoyancy. The method by which activities are carried out includes coordinating the preparation of service activities with partners, socializing activity programs, implementing activities, and evaluating activity results. Partners are quite enthusiastic about this activity. Partners actively discuss and share experiences related to fish feed production and other fish farming issues. The results of the activity show an increase in partners' knowledge and skills in producing quality fish feed by 50%, based on pre & post tests. Service activities will continue to be carried out as a form of concern and transfer of science and technology to the community, as well as the implementation of the tri dharma of higher education.

Abstract

Tilapia is the most widely cultivated fish in Banyumas which is susceptible to bacterial diseases caused by the increasing number of disease cases in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) due to high cultivation intensification. One of the diseases that often attacks is streptococcosis caused by the bacteria Streptococcus sp., which can cause mass mortality and major economic losses for farmers. The purpose of this study was to identify pathogenic bacteria in farmed tilapia in Banyumas. The method used in this study was a purposive sampling method, namely by taking samples of tilapia that have characteristics of disease symptoms such as protruding eyes, damaged fins, and red wounds on the scales from three locations, namely Beji Village, Karangsalam Village, and Pasir Wetan Village. Bacterial samples were obtained from four organs, namely the brain, kidneys, eyes, and liver, then observed the morphology of bacterial colonies and Gram KOH tests were carried out. The results showed that bacterial colonies found in most organs were round to irregular in shape, white to yellowish in color, and Gram positive, which shows the characteristics of Streptococcus sp. bacteria. Based on these results, it can be concluded that Streptococcus sp. bacteria are still the main threat in tilapia cultivation in Banyumas, so it is necessary to take preventive measures through the implementation of good biosecurity, the use of immunostimulants, and the development of vaccines to maintain the sustainability of tilapia cultivation businesses, especially in Banyumas Regency.
