Abstract

In the digital era, social media significantly shapes adolescent identity by creating hyperreal representations that blur the boundaries between reality and simulation. This study aims to analyze how social media simulacra are depicted in Al Rawabi School for Girls Season 2 and their impact on adolescents. Using a qualitative approach, six episodes were analyzed through Jean Baudrillard’s four stages of images: reflection of image, denatures of image, absence of image, and no relation of image. The results show that denatures of image stage is most dominant, revealing how digital image manipulation affects teenagers perception, behaviors, and social interactions. The hyperreality of social media contributes to bullying, suicide, identity distortion, and consumptive banality among teenagers. This study contributes to research on modern Arab media and culture by applying postmodern theories of simulacra and hyperreality to contemporary youth media, providing insight into how digital images and social validation shape teenagers' identity.

Abstract

Increasingly competitive business competition has encouraged manufacturers to innovate in promoting their products, one of which is through audiovisual advertising media. However, most previous studies have only highlighted the persuasive aspect without exploring the symbolic meaning contained therein. Therefore, this study was conducted to reveal the hidden signs and meanings in rice comedy advertisements on the Instagram account @alamee.had, focusing on the mythology of AI sophistication and validity based on Roland Barthes' perspective. This study used a qualitative method with Roland Barthes' semiotic approach, which includes denotative, connotative, and mythical analysis. Three advertising clips showing the role of AI in determining product choices were then analyzed using descriptive interpretive techniques. The results of the study show that these advertisements implicitly construct a myth about AI as a technology that is considered intelligent, rational, and has great potential to influence human decisions regarding technology in everyday life. This research theoretically expands Barthes' semiotic study through the reading of modern technology myths in contemporary Arabic advertisements. Keywords - Advertisement, AI Myths, Semiotics.

Abstract

In the era of Society 5.0, the phenomenon of automatic translation is getting more attention as communication technology advances, especially with the presence of translation engines such as Auto Translation and ChatGPT. Both are widely used in language transfer, including for official texts such as diplomatic speeches. This study aims to identify and compare the translation strategies used by Auto Translation and ChatGPT in translating the Arabic speech delivered by Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta during the OIC Summit in Riyadh on November 11, 2024. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a comparative method. Primary data is obtained from Arabic speech transcripts and the results of the translation of the two machines, while secondary data comes from various relevant literatures. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and note-taking, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results show that the most dominant strategy used by both is Transcription (34% Auto Translation, 42% ChatGPT). The Harfiyyah strategy was found 18% in Auto Translation and 19% in ChatGPT. The Ziyadah strategy appeared 12% in Auto Translation and 8% in ChatGPT. The Transposition strategy was found 6% in Auto Translation and 11% in ChatGPT. The Description strategy was used more by ChatGPT at 12% than Auto Translation with 3%). Taqdim wa ta'khir strategy appears equally at 6%, while Tabdil (9%) and Hazf (12%) strategies are only found in Auto Translation. The results show a significant difference in that Auto Translation is more flexible in replacing or omitting text elements, while ChatGPT is more descriptive and contextual. This research contributes to the study of technology-based translation, especially Arabic-Indonesian diplomatic texts.

Abstract

This qualitative study aims to reveal and explain the unity of meaning contained in Haninun's (حنين) poetry through Michael Riffaterre's semiotic approach, specifically by utilizing heuristic reading, hermeneutic reading, and tracing matrix structures, models, and variants. The data analysis technique used is Miles and Huberman's analysis technique. The results of the semiotic analysis of Faruq Juwaidah's poem Haninun using Michael Riffaterre's perspective show that the poetic meaning in the text is constructed through the process of heuristic reading, hermeneutic reading, and mapping the relationship between matrix, model, and variant. The results of heuristic reading show that the lexical structure of the poem is dominated by the forms ism, harf, and a number of verbs in fi‘il madhi and fi‘il mudhari, which linguistically indicate the poet's tendency to use diction with emotional, relational, and existential nuances.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to explain how SDIT Tawakkal Pacitan builds and maintains brand image as an elementary school that integrates modern science and Islamic values, as well as how middle-class Muslim perceptions shape their preferences toward the school.Methods/Design/Approach – The research uses a case study with a qualitative approach strengthened by embedded descriptive quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the principal, vice principal, homeroom teachers, and parents/guardians; observation of school activities; and document analysis. Quantitative data were obtained through a parent questionnaire to map the socioeconomic profile and the weight of decision factors. Qualitative analysis followed an interactive model of reduction, display, and verification, with source and method triangulation.Findings – Parents interpret the brand image of SDIT Tawakkal as a religious, smart, and noble-character elementary school, as reflected in the consistency of services, an integrated curriculum, habituation of worship, teacher role modeling, and school-home partnerships. Questionnaire results show that the dominant factor of preference is the unique value of the integration of aqliyah and ruhiyah education (65,5%), followed by the school environment (16,8%), teacher quality (11,5%), and aqidah alignment (6,3%). The principles of Islamic branding operate as a normative foundation through the integration of aqidah, sharia, and akhlak in service design and school culture.Originality/Value – This study affirms that the brand image of SDIT in local nonmetropolitan contexts is primarily shaped by internal branding and the coherence of the service experience, not promotion alone.Practical Implications – SDIT managers need to position branding as a quality strategy by standardizing services based on unique values, aligning teacher recruitment and development with the school’s identity, and maintaining school-home partnerships in an accountable manner and sensitive to privacy. Keywords brand image, internal branding, integrated Islamic school, middle-class Muslims, Islamic branding.Paper type Research paper

Abstract

The conflict between the inner world and the need to find identity is a common topic discussed in contemporary literature, particularly through symbols of psychological relationships. However, a significant number of Jungian literary interpretations continue to view archetypes as fixed symbols, rather than as interconnected processes of individualization. This gap can be traced in readings of contemporary Arabic novels, such as Husein Mahran's Sanawat Ats-Tsaqb Al-Aswad, which depicts the main character, Yasin Imran, as torn between social norms and his strong inner desires. This paper will examine how Jungian archetypes are reflected and how the interaction between them contributes to the main character's individualization process. This paper is a combination of descriptive qualitative research and literary psychology based on Carl Gustav Jung's theory of archetypes. The primary data source is the 2021 edition of Sanawat Ats-Tsaqb Al-Aswad, and the secondary data are based on relevant academic literature on analytical psychology and literary works. Data collection involved a careful reading of narrative passages, conversations, and descriptions that exhibit characteristics of Jungian archetypes. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive approach, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that the four Jungian archetypes presented in the novel represent evolutionary stages in Yasin's psychological growth. Yasin's persona is shown as a disciplined and obedient character, a mask used socially to maintain social stability. The shadow is Yasin's duplicate and depicts an unrealized life, emphasizing the dissociation between ego and inner desires. The anima manifests through Yasin's emotional involvement with Farida, thus intensifying the conflict between rationality and affectivity. Ultimately, the conflict between the two versions of Yasin's personality reflects the archetype of the self, meaning the union of the ego with all parts of the soul. Conceptually, through this study, the concept of archetype can be applied in contemporary Arabic literature not only as a psychological symbol but also as a narrative structure that shapes the individualization of the protagonist.
