Abstract

Clean and healthy living behavior is crucial for family health, with families, especially mothers, playing a key role in implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB) to impact overall family health. This study aims to evaluate the application of CHLB in families with toddlers who have experienced diarrhea and to assess their knowledge following health education. Methode:  This descriptive study used a case study approach, focusing on families with toddlers who had diarrhea in Dukuh Sutorejo RT.01 RW.06, Surabaya. The study utilized a closed-ended questionnaire with 30 questions, involving 2 families: one with an extended family type and one with a nuclear family type. The findings revealed that the CHLB application in Family A (Extended Family) scored 44 (Satisfactory), while Family B (Nuclear Family) scored 40 (Insufficient), indicating that neither family met the CHLB standards. However, knowledge improved significantly after health education, with an average score of 77.5, indicating a good understanding. The study identified differences in CHLB implementation between extended and nuclear families, with extended families showing better application. Health education effectively enhanced family knowledge about the importance of CHLB in preventing diarrhea. There is a notable disparity in CHLB application between extended and nuclear families, with extended families demonstrating better practices. Health education significantly improved families' knowledge, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and adherence to CHLB to prevent toddler diarrhea.

Abstract

Introduction: Hospitals are expected to remain fully functional during disasters; however, many facilities continue to face structural, operational, and organizational constraints that limit their resilience. The Hospital Safety Index (HSI) provides a standardized metric for assessing a facility’s capacity to withstand and operate during emergencies, yet limited studies in Indonesia have integrated HSI assessments with qualitative insights from frontline staff. This study examines disaster preparedness at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital, a Type B teaching hospital in Yogyakarta, to generate a comprehensive understanding of its strengths and vulnerabilities. Methods: This study employed a qualitative case study approach to explore hospital disaster preparedness within its organizational context. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 purposively selected informants from clinical, technical, and managerial units. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically using NVivo.Additionally, Hospital Safety Index (HSI) scores obtained from a retrospective assessment conducted in June 2025, using the 2015 HSI module, were used as contextual reference information. The HSI findings were not integrated analytically but served to complement and contextualize the qualitative insights on organizational preparedness.. , Results: The hospital achieved an overall HSI score of 0.69 (Category A), indicating a high likelihood of remaining functional during disasters. Structural (0.68) and non-structural (0.77) components demonstrated strong performance, supported by reliable utilities, protective installations, and adequate logistics. In contrast, emergency and disaster management scored lower (0.59, Category B), reflecting outdated disaster plans, uneven staff awareness of emergency procedures, limited training frequency, and the absence of a designated disaster preparedness budget. These quantitative findings were further reinforced by qualitative insights, which highlighted gaps in committee activation, surge capacity planning, and routine simulation exercises, although external coordination with fire services, police, and the Muhammadiyah hospital network emerged as a key strength. Conclusion: This study suggests discrepancy the possibility between physical resilience and organizational readiness in the study hospital. While findings are context-specific, they suggest that strengthening leadership commitment, institutionalizing disaster financing, updating preparedness plans, and embedding regular multidisciplinary training may enhance operational resilience in similar healthcare settings.

Abstract

Alexithymia is characterized by difficulties in identifying and expressing emotions and is considered to play an important role in influencing excessive gadget use among adolescents. This study aimed to determine the relationship between alexithymia and gadget addiction among adolescents using questionnaires to assess the level of alexithymia and smartphone addiction. This study employed a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 188 adolescents, with 130 respondents selected through non-probability purposive sampling. The independent variable was alexithymia, while the dependent variable was gadget addiction. Data were collected using the Alexithymia Questionnaire and Smartphone Addiction Questionnaire and analyzed using the Pearson correlation test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that most respondents experienced smartphone addiction at a high level. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between alexithymia and gadget addiction, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.451, indicating a moderate positive correlation. Therefore, adolescents with higher levels of alexithymia tended to experience higher levels of gadget addiction. These findings suggest the importance of emotional regulation and psychological interventions in preventing gadget addiction among adolescents

Abstract

Safeguarding is a critical component of healthcare services, particularly as it relates to protecting vulnerable populations. It aims to shield individuals from violence, exploitation, sexual abuse, and neglect. The concept of safeguarding goes beyond physical protection, encompassing psychological, social, and legal dimensions that uphold individual rights—especially for vulnerable groups such as children, women, persons with disabilities, and those with limited access to safe healthcare services. This community engagement initiative aimed to raise awareness and understanding of safeguarding and risk mitigation in healthcare services. The safeguarding workshop involved participants from Muhammadiyah organizations and utilized group discussions, case studies, role-plays, and scenario-based simulations. Pre- and post-training evaluations were conducted to assess the increase in participant understanding. The results indicated an improvement in safeguarding knowledge and led to the drafting of the initial Safeguarding Guidelines for Health Council of Muhammadiyah Central Board. These guidelines encompass safeguarding definitions, core principles, preventive strategies, case-handling procedures for violence, exploitation, and sexual abuse (VESA), and reporting mechanisms tailored to Muhammadiyah’s context. iven the novelty of safeguarding as a concept, some participants found it challenging to identify forms of VESA or understand preventive measures. Thus, continued efforts through advanced training and broader policy dissemination are necessary to deepen understanding and enhance implementation.
