Abstract

The development of independence in preschool children (3-6 years) cannot be separated from the role of the family, especially the mother. One of the factors that influence a child's independence is the mother's age, mother's education, mother's occupation, mother's religion and mother's ethnicity. Therefore, this study aims to identify the relationship between maternal stimulation and the development of independence in preschool-aged children. The design of this research is descriptive correlational, the data collection tool is using the Pre-Screening Questionnaire (KPSP), data analysis is univariate and bivariate analysis, the sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling. The population in this study were all mothers who had preschool age children in Payung Sekaki District, Pekanbaru City. The total sample in this study was 100 respondents. The results of the research were 55 mothers (55%) who received stimulation in the good category and 68 children (68%) who received stimulation in the appropriate category. The chi-square test results obtained p value (0.000) α (0.05), which means that H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between maternal stimulation and the development of independence in preschool children.

Abstract

The "school from home" policy during the COVID-19 pandemic a few years ago led to increased interaction between children and gadgets. Prolonged and intense gadget use among children can result in complaints that, if left unaddressed, may cause vision problems. To prevent permanent eye damage, it is essential to conduct vision screening for school-aged children to identify potential issues. This study was conducted in 2020 using a simple descriptive method with accidental sampling, involving 50 children aged 8–13 years as research respondents. Vision screening using the PEEK Acuity application revealed that 52% (26 children) had abnormal visual acuity. Additionally, 46% (23 children) reported symptoms of dry eye, such as frequent eye rubbing. Furthermore, 72% of the children used gadgets for more than 2 hours per day. The study concludes that nearly half of the children had undetected visual acuity issues. Regular eye examinations for school-aged children are recommended to identify eye problems as early as possible.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: akupresur mata, computer vision syndrome, remaja akhir Abstract Eyes Acupressure Therapy of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) in Student. Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is characterized by visual symptoms which is resulted from interaction with electronic media such as computers, tablets, and gadgets. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of eye acupressure on the symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). The type of this research is quantitative with an experimental design. The sample of this study was students of nursing Faculty University of Riau who were at the age of late adolescent as many as 83 respondents which were divided into a control and experimental group through pretest and posttest based on the inclusion criteria. The sample were selected by using stratified randomized sampling method. The analysis statistic used Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney. The assessment obtained through the CVS score were decrease significantly in the experimental group after eyes acupressure treatment with p-value (0,000) < α (0.05). It can be concluded that eyes acupressure can reduce the symptom of CVS. Therefore eyes acupressure can be recommended as an alternative in complementary therapies for clients with CVS symptoms. Abstract

CTEV (Congenital et al.) is defined as a condition in which there is adductor in the front of the foot and supination in the back, varus in the toes in the subtalar complex, equinus in the hindfoot, and medial deviation of the entire foot towards the floor surface. The CTEV therapy process requires routine and periodic evaluations until the child ages 4-5. This, of course, impacts the level of knowledge and compliance of parents in accompanying their children during the therapy program. Examining how health education utilizing leaflet media affects parents' understanding of children with CTEV is the primary goal of this study. One group was given a pretest-posttest as part of this quantitative study's quasi-experimental methodology. The parents of children who are patients make up the population. Thirty participants were selected using a purposive sampling method. Using a questionnaire as its measuring instrument, this study examines two parts: part A, which focuses on respondent characteristics, and part B, which delves into questions on CTEV and the knowledge element associated with it. The analysis used is a bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon test. There is a significant difference in the mean level of parental knowledge on the pre-test and post-test in the experimental group, with a p-value of 0f 0.019. Health education regarding CTEV for parents who have children suffering from CTEV using leaflets influences the level of knowledge of respondents. Hopefully,  these results can be an alternative intervention to increase parents' knowledge about CTEV.

Abstract

This study investigated the factors affecting the length of hospital stay (LOS) for low birth weight (LBW) infants at Arifin Achmad Regional Hospital in 2024. Using a quantitative retrospective correlational design, the research analyzed data from the medical records of 73 LBW infants. An observation sheet served as the primary instrument, and data were analyzed using chi-square and Spearman rank correlation tests. The findings revealed a significant relationship between LOS and gestational age (p = 0.000), birth weight (p = 0.000), and the presence of complex illnesses (p = 0.000). A lower gestational age, lower birth weight, and the existence of multiple health diagnoses were all associated with a longer hospitalization period. Conversely, factors such as infant sex, feeding method, and the implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) were not found to have a statistically significant effect on LOS. The study's primary limitation was its lack of differentiation between specific types of illnesses. Future research should consider this distinction to better inform clinical practices aimed at reducing hospitalization duration for this vulnerable population.

Abstract

Obesity is a global health problem with increasing prevalence. One behavioral factor contributing to the risk of obesity in adolescents is the consumption of sugary drinks. The 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) data shows that 61.27% of the population aged ≥3 years consumed sugary drinks more than once a day, 30.22% consumed them 1–6 times per week, and only 8.51% consumed them less than three times per month. This study aims to describe the consumption patterns of sweetened drinks in obese adolescents. The study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 70 obese adolescents selected through a total sampling method according to the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a respondent characteristics questionnaire and the Beverage Intake Questionnaire (BEVQ-15), then analyzed univariately. The results showed that of the 70 respondents, 38 (54.3%) were male and 32 (45.7%) were female. The majority of respondents aged 14 (58.6%), and 53 (75.7%) reported high levels of sweetened beverage consumption. High frequency and volume of consumption contribute to increased daily calorie intake, a risk factor for obesity. Awareness-raising and control efforts regarding sweetened beverage consumption are needed as a strategy for obesity prevention from adolescence..
