Abstract

Cultural Arts education in schools still tends to rely on conventional methods, resulting in low student engagement and participation, particularly in the delivery of theoretical material. Therefore, more interactive and engaging instructional media are needed. One alternative that can be utilized is digital educational games such as Blooket. This study aims to describe the process of introducing Blooket as a learning medium in Cultural Arts education at SMP Negeri 10 Semarang, to examine students’ responses to its use, and to identify its potential as a learning medium. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method, with students at SMP Negeri 10 Semarang as the subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of Blooket was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The use of this platform increased student engagement, as reflected in their active participation and enthusiasm during the learning process. In addition, students’ responses were positive, as the learning experience became more engaging, enjoyable, and supportive of their understanding of the material. Despite challenges such as limited devices and internet connectivity, Blooket demonstrates strong potential as an interactive and effective learning medium for improving the quality of Cultural Arts education.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of understanding the visual characteristics of drawings produced by children aged 10–11 years within the context of non-formal learning. Children’s drawings not only represent objects but also reflect stages of visual development and learning experiences. This research draws upon theories of children’s artistic development and visual analysis in fine arts. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a visual analysis approach. The subjects consist of children aged 10–11 years who participate in private drawing lessons. Data were collected through observation, documentation of students’ artworks, and brief interviews with the instructor. The findings indicate that variations in drawing outcomes are influenced by the duration of learning, practice habits, and the teaching methods applied. Furthermore, the study reveals that children’s ability to produce simple realistic drawings is shaped by their learning experiences and instructional guidance during the learning process, resulting in diverse visual characteristics that remain within a developmental stage.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of gender perspectives into the art education curriculum in the Department of Fine Arts and Design, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. This study is grounded in the importance of strengthening gender awareness in education, particularly in art education, which functions not only as a space for aesthetic development but also as a medium for social reflection and expression. The study employed a qualitative approach, with data collected through curriculum document analysis, analysis of Semester Learning Plans, interviews with lecturers and students, and classroom observation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the gender integration into the curriculum remains implicit and has not yet been structured systematically. Values of equality, diversity, and humanity are already included, but they have not been clearly operationalized in learning outcomes, teaching materials, learning strategies, or assessment. The study also found a gap between curriculum planning and learning practice, influenced by variations in lecturers’ and students’ understanding of gender issues. Art education has the potential to serve as a pedagogical space for developing gender awareness and critical social reflection, although this potential has not been optimally utilized. The novelty of this study lies in its connection between curriculum document analysis and the lived experiences of educational actors. Therefore, gender integration in art education needs to be directed toward a more explicit, systematic, and responsive curriculum transformation in order to strengthen the role of art education in developing critical and inclusive social awareness.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the management of private music lessons in Manado as a response to the limitations of formal education in accommodating diverse musical interests, goals, and learning backgrounds. Method: A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, involving interviews with eight instructors, observations of learning activities, and analysis of relevant documents and social media content related to private music courses. Results and Discussion: The findings reveal that private music courses in Manado implement adaptive nonformal education management that is flexible and student-centered. Key strategies include flexibility in scheduling, location, materials, methods, and student engagement, enabling courses to respond effectively to learner diversity. Independent development of courses has fostered a management model emerging from practical experience, situational responsiveness, and pedagogical knowledge, distinguishing it from formal institutions and organized nonformal courses. Conclusion: This study confirms that private music courses serve as individualized pedagogical spaces and as adaptive nonformal arts education entities, requiring ongoing managerial reflection to maintain the quality and relevance of music learning in the contemporary era.

Abstract

The low level of focus among elementary school-aged children when observing the static collections at the Indonesian Batik Museum presents a challenge in effectively conveying cultural information. Children tend to miss complex historical narratives and only interact briefly with the exhibits. This study aims to design an interactive activity book as an adaptive educational companion for children aged 6-12 years. The design method used is the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model with a qualitative approach. The analysis phase identified children's visual needs, who tend to prefer interactive elements and storytelling. In the development phase, an activity book was produced with mascot characters, simplified batik motif illustrations, and a bright color palette to maintain audience attention. The results of implementation in the field showed that the use of the activity book significantly increased children's focus duration and independence in exploring the museum's collections. Through a series of visual and motor challenges, children were able to understand the philosophy of batik in a more enjoyable and participatory way. In conclusion, the integration of interactive media into museum visits has proven effective in transforming passive learning patterns into active exploration. This design contributes to efforts to preserve batik culture through visual communication media that suits children's cognitive characteristics.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media among adolescents has increased the risk of digital exploitation, including child grooming practices. Lack of understanding of safe boundaries in digital relationships means that many adolescents are unable to recognize emotional manipulation, excessive attention patterns, and the risks of sharing personal information on social media. This study aims to design an educational motion graphic about safe boundaries in digital relationships and child grooming among adolescents as a digital education campaign medium. The method used is Design Thinking, which includes the stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Data collection was carried out through observation, literature review, and analysis of references related to adolescent digital behavior and the issue of online exploitation. The results of the study are educational motion graphics in vertical video format that combine digital illustrations, typography, animation, audio narration, and a storytelling approach to convey messages in a communicative and engaging manner. The visual concept uses a children's cartoon illustration style with a dominant purple color. The designed motion graphic was then used by the Anantaka Foundation as a digital education campaign medium through Instagram. This media is expected to increase adolescent awareness of the importance of maintaining safe boundaries in digital relationships and recognizing the risks of child grooming.

Abstract

This study examines how community-based arts education governance at Sanggar Juju in Semarang contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (Quality Education) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) through cultural preservation. Utilizing qualitative methods, data were collected via observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis included reduction, presentation, and verification, with triangulation used to ensure validity. The findings reveal that the success of Sanggar Juju in managing its programs and growing its membership to 125 students over six years is underpinned by governance practices such as a policy framework, organizational values, participatory principles, and accountability systems. The studio promotes SDG 4 by offering culturally relevant and inclusive learning opportunities in traditional dance and supports SDG 11 by preserving intangible cultural heritage, strengthening social cohesion, and boosting community-based tourism in Kandri Village. Despite these successes, the organization still employs a centralized leadership model, which limits transparency and participation, posing risks to its sustainability and external funding opportunities. The study recommends adopting a collaborative governance model to improve accountability mechanisms, ensuring long-term organizational resilience and enhancing its contribution to the SDGs.
