Abstract

Kabupaten Jember termasuk daerah pesisir selatan Pulau Jawa yang memiliki potensi hasil laut yang belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal seperti hutan mangrove. Daerah di Jember yang membudidayakan hutan mangrove salah satunya Pantai Payangan yang terletak di Desa Sumberejo, Kecamatan Ambulu. Jenis mangrove di Pantai Payangan beragam termasuk jenis perepat (Sonneratia alba). Mangrove jenis perepat memiliki banyak manfaat seperti pada buahnya yang sering disebut buah bogem oleh masyarakat sekitar. Permasalahan masyarakat Desa Sumberejo yaitu belum teroptimalkannya pemanfaatan buah perepat dan hanya dibuang karena dinilai tidak layak jual. Dengan melimpahnya jumlah buah bogem di Desa Sumberejo, hal ini dapat berpotensi sebagai sumber ekonomi masyarakat setempat. Hal ini mendasari tim Promahadesa untuk melaksanakan sosialisasi, pelatihan dan pemasaran mengenai pengolahan buah perepat menjadi sirup “Si Bogem” yang kaya vitamin dan antioksidan. Sosialisasi dan pelatihan yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat Desa Sumberejo mampu mengolah buah perepat menjadi sirup. Sirup “Si Bogem” diharapkan dapat meningkatkan ekonomi masyarakat sekitar.

Abstract

Ulva sp. adalah genus makroalga hijau dengan diameter permukaan yang besar. Manfaat dari kapasitas fotosintesis yang tinggi pada Ulva sp. sebagai media penyerapan nutrisi seperti amonium, nitrat, dan fosfor dengan tingkat yang tinggi. Ulva sp. termasuk alga yang tumbuhnya berdasarkan musim, untuk itu diperlukan budidaya guna memenuhi kebutuhan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh intensitas cahaya dan jumlah nutrisi terhadap kadar klorofil total dan laju pertumbuhan spesifik Ulva sp. Variabel yang digunakan adalah intensitas cahaya sebesar 1000 sampai dengan 3000 Lux serta jumlah nutrisi yang digunakan yaitu 0,6 mg/L hingga 1,8 mg/L. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan lama penyinaran selama 12 jam. Prosedur yang dilakukan berupa pemeliharaan Ulva sp. dengan wadah terkontrol dilanjutkan dengan pengujian kadar nitrogen total, pengujian kadar fosfat, pengujian kadar klorofil, dan laju pertumbuhan spesifik. Didapatkan nilai derajat keasaman atau pH pada wadah penelitian berkisar 6,5 – 8,5, suhu berada di antara 24 – 26°C, dan salinitas 35 – 37 ppt. Hasil analisis menghasilkan data yang baik jika ditinjau dari nilai p-value yang memiliki nilai kurang dari 0,05.   Keywords: aklimatisasi, Ulva sp., nutrisi, klorofil, laju pertumbuhan

Abstract

Chemical Engineering Mengabdi 2023 is a manifestation of community service contained in one of the tridharma of higher education. Chemical Engineering Mengabdi 2023 activities are a means of transferring knowledge and technology from academics to the community. In the implementation of this activity, Chemical Engineering students of Jember University are expected to help the community overcome the problem of robusta coffee skin waste, and can empower the economy of Tanah Wulan Village residents by providing knowledge about the utilization of local resources and the utilization of coffee skin waste into briquette products with high economic value. The implementation of the service is divided into two, namely socialization and practice of making biobriquettes. Socialization activities were carried out to convey material on processing coffee skin waste into briquettes. Furthermore, the practice of making biobriquettes is carried out using the pyrolysis method. In this service activity, an environmentally friendly biobriquette product was obtained, which has consistent heat efficiency, and an economical price.

Abstract

Indonesia has been recognized for its rich natural ingredients such as spices, herbs, and extracts for decades. Furthermore, these components also have been used as an herbal medicine for a long time ago. Meanwhile, the apparent capability comparison of several components on antimicrobial activity has not been updated yet. This study was conducting the comparison of antimicrobial activity for several materials such as noni (Morinda citrifolia), garlic (Allium sativum), celery (Apium graveolens), galangal (Alpinia galangal), ginger (Zingiber officinale), yellow turmeric (Curcuma longa), lime (Citrus aurantifolia), papaya (Carica papaya) leaf, betel (Piper betle) leaf, and cutcherry (Kaempferia galangal) using agar dilution method. Two types of bacteria are used for the test, namely gram-negative bacteria and gram-positive bacteria, with a total of seven bacteria. The media used were TSA (Trypticase Soy Agar) media for gram-negative bacteria and MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) media for gram-positive bacteria. This study had been conducted by using a fast screening method, which referred to a semi-qualitative method. Several components, such as noni, lime, and betel leaf, showed a significant result of antimicrobial activity. Otherwise, other compounds, surprisingly, could not suppress bacterial growth.

Abstract

The content of bioactive compounds in Sargassum sp. already used in various fields. The Ultrasound Assisted Extraction (UAE) method and water solvent has met the principles of green chemistry so that it is used in this study as a method of extracting antioxidant compounds contained in Sargassum sp. The principle of green chemistry has the main goal of reducing or eliminating the impact of environmental damage. This research was conducted with several process variables, including the ratio of the sample mass to the volume of solvent (0.05 – 0.15 g/mL), time (30 – 40 minutes) and power (170 – 180 W) using the UAE method and water solvent (aquadest) on the total phenol value of Sargassum sp. result. Analysis of variance was carried out with the help of Design Expert software, Response Surface Method - Central Composite Design to determine the effect of the process variables carried out in the extraction process on the total phenol yield. The analysis of variance in this study shows the suitability between the research design and the results of the study which is indicated by an R2 value of 0.9785. The highest results were obtained with a variable ratio of sample mass to solvent volume of 0.18 (g/mL), time of 40 minutes and power of 180 W with a total phenol yield of 212.8 mg GAE/g and antioxidant activity of 12.3%.

Abstract

Bioethanol is a form of renewable energy that is used to reduce dependence on the use of fossil fuels which cause various negative impacts on the environment. Ulva sp. contains high carbohydrates so it has the potential as a raw material for bioethanol production. This study aims to determine the optimum conditions of the fermentation process with the variables used time, pH, and yeast concentration. This study used the results of hydrolysis of Ulva sp. with optimum operating conditions of 0.1 N HCl concentration, 80 mesh particle size, and 450 watt microwave power. Measurement of bioethanol levels was carried out using an alcoholmeter. The results showed that the optimal conditions for fermentation were 7 days of fermentation, pH 5.5, and yeast concentration of 1.5% which resulted in a bioethanol content of 7.55%.

Abstract

The challenges faced by the Indonesian state are increasing greenhouse gases, climate change, and depleting fossil fuel reserves. This requires the exploration of alternative energy that is environmentally friendly and sustainable. Algae biomass, especially Ulva sp. is one of the resources that have the potential for bioethanol production as an alternative energy producer. The purpose of this study is to determine the potential of Ulva sp. as raw material for bioethanol and to determine the effect of particle size, solvent concentration, and power on the hydrolysis process. This study used Ulva sp. as raw material. hydrolyzed with HCl solvent using the microwave assisted hydrolysis method. Hydrolysis with HCl concentrations of 0.1 N, 1 N, 2 N, variations of microwave power 150 watts, 300 watts, 450 watts, and particle sizes of 60 mesh, 80 mesh, and 100 mesh. Measurement of reducing sugar levels was carried out using the dinitro salicylic acid (DNS) method. The results showed that the best conditions for hydrolysis were when the HCl concentration was 0.1 N, the microwave power was 450 watts, and the particle size was 80 mesh which resulted in a reducing sugar content of 20.751 mg/mL.

Abstract

Labu siam (Sechium edule) merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Cucurbitaceae mengandung beberapa vitamin, seperti vitamin A, B dan C sehingga seringkali digunakan untuk mengobati penyakit. Berdasarkan analisis fitokimia ekstrak labu siam menunjukkan adanya senyawa bioaktif berupa fenolik. Senyawa fenolik merupakan metabolit sekunder dan dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan kosmetik dan obat-obatan karena mengurangi stress oksidatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan total fenolik dan aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak labu siam (Sechium edule) dengan metode spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Ekstrak labu siam diperoleh dengan metode Ultrasonic Assisted-Extraction (UAE) dengan pelarut etanol 96%. Variabel ekstraksi yang digunakan adalah waktu (15, 20, dan 25 menit), amplitudo (45, 65, dan 85 %), serta rasio pelarut (1:5, 1:10, dan 1:15). Penentuan kandungan total fenolik didasarkan pada metode Folin-Ciocalteau serta aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan DPPH. Penentuan parameter ekstraksi labu siam terhadap kandungan total fenolik ditentukan dengan metode Response Surface Methodology dengan tipe Box-Behnken. Kondisi optimal yang diperoleh untuk ekstraksi labu siam sebesar 1,327 mg GAE/gr sampel dan aktivitas antioksidan sebesar 29,45% pada kondisi waktu 20 menit, amplitudo 65%, dan rasio pelarut 1:10.

Abstract

Sirih merah merupakan salah satu tanaman obat yang dikenal akan kandungan antioksidannya yang baik untuk menjaga kesehatan tubuh. Salah satu jenis antioksidan yang terkandung dalam sirih merah adalah flavonoid. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan ekstraksi terhadap daun sirih merah menggunakan metode Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE) dengan tujuan untuk menganalisis kadar flavonoid serta aktivitas antioksidan pada daun sirih merah. Digunakan pelarut Etanol 90% dengan variabel ekstraksi yang digunakan adalah rasio bahan dengan pelarut, ukuran partikel, dan waktu ekstraksi yang ditentukan menggunakan software Design Expert13. Uji flavonoid dilakukan dengan Spektrofotometer Uv-Vis dengan panjang gelombang 431 nm. Analisa aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan dengan DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl). Didapatkan hasil kadar flavonoid tertinggi sebesar 263,676 mgQE/gr pada kondisi operasi optimum ukuran partikel sebesar 100 mesh, rasio bahan dengan pelarut sebesar 0,06, dan waktu ekstraksi selama 25 menit.

Abstract

Turmeric leaves (Curcuma longa L.) contain phytochemical compounds that can be utilized as natural food preservatives or bioformalin due to its antibacterial properties. The extraction method used in this study is Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), with the aim to determine the effect of variable sample-solvent ratio, time, and particle size on total flavonoid, tannin, and alkaloid compounds, as well as to determine the optimal shelf life of fresh tuna. This study used sample-solvent ratio variables of 1:10, 1:15, and 1:20; time variables of 10, 20, and 30 minutes; and particle size variables of 60, 80, and 100 mesh. The highest total flavonoid compound was obtained in the variable sample-solvent ratio of 1:20, particle size of 100 mesh, and time of 20 minutes at 98,076 mg/L. The highest total tannin compound was obtained in the variable sample-solvent ratio of 1:15, particle size of 60 mesh, and time of 10 minutes at 41,697 mg/L. The highest total alkaloid compound was obtained in the variable sample-solvent ratio of 1:10, particle size of 100 mesh, and time of 20 minutes at 10,092 mg/L. The optimum curing time for tuna is 36 hours at room temperature with variable sample-solvent ratio, time, and particle size of 1:20 g/mL, 20 minutes, and 100 mesh with 20% concentration. The running has the highest flavonoid compounds, so it can be concluded that flavonoid compounds have a major effect on the preservation process of tuna.
