Abstract

This study aims to assess the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the internal service sector in DKI Jakarta Province. The research utilizes data from the 2016 DKI Jakarta Input-Output Table, which provides comprehensive information on economic transactions within the region. The analysis focuses on understanding the extent to which the pandemic has affected the output contribution, export and import structure, and overall performance of the internal service sector. The findings indicate that the corporate services sector is the sixth largest contributor to the overall economic output in DKI Jakarta, highlighting its significant role within the region. Furthermore, the financial services sector is identified as the most substantial contributor to the trade balance, with high levels of exports and imports despite the pandemic's challenges. These results underline the resilience and importance of the service sector in maintaining economic stability in DKI Jakarta during the pandemic. The study provides valuable insights into how the internal service sector has adapted to the pandemic's pressures and its implications for future economic policy and planning.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused many economic activities and workforce productivity to decline. The tourism sector is a dynamic sector because it can involve many people and revitalize various business fields. Considering the strategic position of the tourism sector, research is necessary to determine its impact on the economy post-Covid-19. The objectives of this study include analyzing key sectors against the 2016 Central Java IO Table to identify sectors with high backward and forward linkages as considerations for economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. The 2016 Central Java IO Table and information on Central Java tourist expenditure were used to analyze the impact of tourism sector demand. The results of the sectoral backward linkage analysis show that only the Food and Beverage Service sector is included in the top 10. Meanwhile, the sectoral forward linkage analysis found that the Food and Beverage Service sector and the Information and Communication Services sector are included in the top 10. The analysis of the impact of final demand on all tourism sectors in Central Java in 2021 reached 16,663,997.66 million rupiah.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of rural development on poverty reduction in Central Java Province using the Village Development Index (Indeks Desa Membangun/IDM) as the primary indicator. A quantitative approach is employed using panel data regression covering 29 districts over the period 2020–2024. The estimated models include pooled Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), fixed effects, and random effects, with model selection conducted using the Chow test and Hausman test. The results indicate that the fixed effects model is the most appropriate specification. Empirically, the Village Development Index has a negative and statistically significant effect on poverty rates, suggesting that improvements in rural development quality contribute to poverty reduction. The relatively high coefficient of determination indicates that variations in poverty over time within regions are substantially explained by changes in IDM. These findings highlight the critical role of rural development as a strategic instrument for place-based poverty alleviation. However, persistent inter-regional disparities suggest that the benefits of rural development are not yet evenly distributed. This study contributes to the literature by reinforcing the place-based development framework, positioning villages as key analytical units in achieving inclusive and sustainable development.

Abstract

Government cash transfer programs aim to assist individuals or households in escaping poverty. However, concerns have arisen regarding the misuse of such assistance for tertiary expenditures, such as tobacco and alcohol. This study aims to evaluate the impact of government assistance on household consumption patterns in Indonesia. Utilizing data from the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS), we apply Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and Instrumental Variable Regression approaches to analyze this impact. The results indicate that an increase in cash transfer amounts contributes to an overall increase in household expenditures, including tertiary consumption. A significant positive relationship between cash transfers and tertiary consumption expenditures suggests the potential for moral hazard issues among certain households in Indonesia

Abstract

This paper investigates whether positive and negative shocks to payment digitalisation in Indonesia have asymmetric effects on real household consumption and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Using quarterly data from 2015Q1–2025Q4, a Cashless Payment System Index (CPSI) is constructed through Principal Component Analysis based on debit cards, credit cards, electronic money, and mobile and internet banking transactions. The CPSI is decomposed into positive and negative shocks and estimated using the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) approach. Twin NARDL models are estimated for real consumption and real GDP while controlling for inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, broad money (M2), banking-sector indicators, and global business-cycle conditions. Bounds tests confirm long-run cointegration in both models. Long-run estimates show that positive cashless-payment shocks increase real consumption and GDP by 0.33% and 0.27%, respectively, while negative shocks affect them by 0.34% and 0.25%. However, Wald tests indicate no significant long-run asymmetry, implying that positive and negative digitalisation shocks have statistically similar effects on economic activity. Robustness checks support this finding. The results suggest that payment digitalisation promotes economic activity in Indonesia, with effects driven primarily by structural factors such as infrastructure expansion rather than behavioural asymmetries.

Abstract

This study aims to empirically explore the condition of financial inclusion and relation between financial services sector development, real sector growth, and poverty alleviation. This study focuses on 334 Indonesian districts and cities in 2021. Financial inclusion measured by the penetration, availability, and utilization of banking services, which accumulate into a financial inclusion index. To examine the direct and indirect effects of financial inclusion on poverty through aggregate income, the Hayes Process Macro bootstrapping technique was used. In 2021 Central Jakarta has the highest level of financial inclusion in Indonesia, with an index of 0.8. The main form of financial inclusion is the availability of commercial bank offices and rural banks, while bank account ownership and the use of deposit and loan products in the formal financial services sector play a smaller role in the financial inclusion of Indonesian districts and cities in 2021. The findings indicate that financial inclusion has a positive and significant effect on aggregate income, a negative and significant effect on poverty, and aggregate income can mediate the relationship between financial inclusion and poverty.

Abstract

The Indonesian government implemented a fiscal decentralization policy in order to encourage regional autonomy policies and realize regional development. Regional Original Revenue (PAD) is a form of fiscal decentralization policy. This research aims to determine the factors that influence regional original income in provinces throughtout Indonesia. This is quantitative research with secondary data, and the data source comes from BPS reports for the 2021-2022 period. Data analysis used panel data regression with the help of the Eviews 9 program. The results showed that the level of unemployment rate, human development index, and investment had a negative and significant influence on regional original revenue, while the number of poor people had a negative but not significant influence.
