Abstract

The globalization of higher education has intensified competition, compelling universities to develop strong international brands. Universitas Riau (UNRI), with its strategic location and distinctive Malay cultural identity, possesses significant potential to attract foreign students but currently lacks a structured and integrated branding strategy. This research addresses the problem of UNRI's underdeveloped international brand by analyzing the successful strategies of comparable institutions. The objectives are to (1) analyze the international student recruitment strategies of BINUS University, Universitas Andalas (UNAND), and the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Padangpanjang; (2) incorporate stakeholder perspectives from the Malaysian Consulate; and (3) formulate a comprehensive branding model for UNRI. This study employs a qualitative, multi-case design conducted in October 2025. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants and document analysis at each institution. The findings show that successful strategies vary: BINUS emphasizes service excellence and exchange programs, UNAND adopts aggressive scholarship schemes and digital promotion, while ISI Padangpanjang capitalizes on its cultural and arts niche. The Malaysian Consulate highlighted the appeal of Islamic values and scholarship opportunities. The study concludes that UNRI should adopt an “Integrated Niche-Excellence Branding” model by leveraging its unique Malay culture, supported by competitive scholarships, simplified administration, and excellent student services, to position itself as a leading international education destination in ASEAN.

Abstract

Ineffective household waste management is often the cause of environmental pollution and public health problems. One applicable solution is processing household organic waste into liquid organic fertilizer (LOF), which is beneficial for plants and environmentally friendly. This community service program will be conducted in Jayapura Village, Bungaraya District, Siak Regency, with the aim of empowering the community to convert organic waste into valuable products. The method used is a participatory approach through socialization, training, and hands-on practice in making LOF. The results of this community service showed high enthusiasm from the participants during all stages of the activity. The training participants were able to understand the LOF production process well and began to apply it independently in their home gardens. In addition to producing useful fertilizer, this activity also has the potential to reduce the amount of waste disposed into the environment. The benefits of this program are not only experienced individually but also collectively through the creation of a healthier and more productive environment. This activity is expected to serve as a model for the application of simple, practical technology, strengthen environmental awareness, and encourage community independence in supporting sustainable household agriculture.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to strengthen regional competitiveness by promoting the traditional culinary specialty Palito Daun as a cultural identity and economic potential in Kampar Regency, Riau. Palito Daun culinary delights possess high local wisdom and offer the potential to be developed as a superior regional product. The activity included outreach, branding strategy training, digital-based promotional assistance, and facilitation of business legality for culinary MSMEs. The results demonstrated improved participant skills in more attractive product packaging, utilizing social media for promotion, and understanding the importance of legality in expanding the market. Furthermore, this activity fostered collective community awareness of the importance of preserving traditional recipes while simultaneously developing them to suit modern market tastes. This community service activity is expected to be a strategic step in strengthening Kampar Regency's image as a region with distinctive culinary delights capable of competing locally, nationally, and internationally.

Abstract

The consumption of fresh, nutrient-rich vegetables in Merempan Hilir Village, Mempura Subdistrict, Siak Regency remains low, resulting in suboptimal community nutritional status. One solution to improve access to and consumption of healthy vegetables while supporting household food security is the cultivation of organic water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) in home gardens. Organic water spinach is environmentally friendly and rich in essential nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, and dietary fiber. This program applied a nutrition education approach delivered directly to housewives, including counseling on the importance of balanced nutrition and training in organic water spinach cultivation techniques. Nutrition education aims to change attitudes and behaviors by providing knowledge and skills so participants can independently adopt healthy eating habits. The results showed that the community began cultivating organic water spinach in home gardens and consuming it regularly, thereby improving healthy vegetable consumption behavior and contributing to long-term household food security and family health.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out in Merangkai Village, Dayun District, Siak Regency with the aim of increasing community understanding and involvement in the process of drafting Village Regulations. Village Regulations are an important instrument for democratic, transparent, and accountable village governance. The activity implementation method was carried out through socialization, training, and direct mentoring for village officials, the Village Consultative Body (BAPEKAM), and community representatives. The results of the activity showed an increase in community knowledge regarding the function and urgency of village regulations, as well as a growing awareness to actively participate in public deliberation and consultation forums. However, ongoing efforts are still needed to strengthen community capacity, expand socialization, and ensure the involvement of all elements of society in a more inclusive manner. This service activity is expected to be the first step in encouraging more optimal community participation in participatory regulation-based village development.

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is a fundamental right for all workers, including palm oil farm labourers in informal sectors. In Teluk Merempan Village, Mempura District, Siak Regency, palm oil farming is still carried out traditionally without proper OSH practices. This study aims to identify farm workers’ understanding of OSH and to analyze the urgency of legal education as a preventive effort against work-related risks. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through observations and in-depth interviews. The findings show that most workers are unaware of their OSH rights, rarely use personal protective equipment (PPE), and have never participated in safety training. The main challenges are low education levels, limited access to labour law information, and entrenched traditional work practices. These results highlight the importance of community-based legal education programs to enhance workers’ legal awareness and OSH implementation in agriculture. As a follow-up, the KUKERTA Team from Universitas Riau designed a local legal education program to support farm workers in improving OSH awareness.

Abstract

Developing an integrated agricultural system based on local potential is an effective strategy for addressing the challenges of efficiency, sustainability, and food security in rural areas. Dayun Village in Siak Regency boasts diverse potential, including underutilized agricultural land, fish ponds, cattle ranches, and hydroponic installations. Through the University of Riau's Community Service Program (KKN), the village government and community collaborated to design and implement an integrated agricultural system that integrates the agriculture, fisheries, livestock, and horticulture sectors. The approach used was participatory and transformative, starting with identifying potential and needs, planning activities, implementing activities such as spreading gourami seeds, planting productive trees (MPTS), and reactivating hydroponic installations, and conducting community survey-based evaluations. The results of the activities demonstrated increased community participation, understanding of the integrated agricultural system, and improved ecological and economic awareness. This activity demonstrates that cross-sector collaboration and optimizing local potential can strengthen the village economy and sustainably secure food security.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to encourage the development of Dayun Watermelon as a superior regional product while providing legal protection through the Geographical Indication (GI) scheme as a form of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Dayun Watermelon has unique taste, quality, and cultivation techniques that are passed down from generation to generation, so it has the potential to become a regional asset with high economic and cultural value. The implementation was conducted through socialization regarding the importance of IPR protection, technical training in preparing Geographical Indication documents, mentoring farmer groups in building institutions, and facilitating cooperation with local governments and related stakeholders. The results indicate an increase in farmer and community understanding regarding the benefits of Geographical Indication protection, the formation of a collective understanding to maintain product quality, and the initial steps in preparing IPR application documents. This activity is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Dayun Watermelon, improve farmer welfare, and protect local identity through a sustainable IPR protection system.

Abstract

Collaboration between universities and communities plays a crucial role in addressing environmental issues, particularly in the management of organic waste in rural areas. This article presents the results of a community service program by the University of Riau through the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (Kukerta) Tematik Literasi program in Suak Lanjut Village, Siak Regency, Riau. The program aimed to improve environmental health by introducing simple technologies, such as eco enzyme and biopori absorption pits. The method used was a participatory approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods through three stages: The first stage involved field observations, interviews with housewives from the PKK, and an analysis of data from the Siak Regency Environmental Protection Agency (2023), which showed that 67% of waste was organic material. The main activity involved 25 participants and three sessions: a lecture, a demonstration of eco enzyme production, and a practice of biopori creation using plastic bottles. The results showed an increase in environmental awareness. The positive impacts are reduced methane gas emissions, increased production of compost, and eco ezymes that are environmentally friendly. The program aligns with the Tridharma of Higher Education, supports the Siak Green program, and contributes to SDG goals 3 and 12.

AbstrakChild Grooming merujuk dalam Pasal 76 E Undang-Undang Nomor 35 Tahun 2014 Tentang Perlindungan anak dan selain itu juga sudah ada Undang-Undang Nomor 44 Tahun 2008 tentang Pornografi, yang secara spesifik mengatur segala bentuk tindakan yang terkait dengan pornografi yang melibatkan anak tertuang dalam Pasal 12 menyebutkan bahwa setiap orang dilarang mengajak, membujuk, memanfaatkan, membiarkan, menyalahgunakan kekuasaan atau memaksa anak dalam menggunakan produk atau jasa pornografi. Namun, yang diketahui hingga saat ini masih banyak kasus child grooming khususnya di wilayah Riau tidak terselesaikan dengan maksimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penegakan hukum, hambatan dan upaya penanggulangan hambatan dalam penegakan hukum terhadap pelaku tindak pidana child grooming melalui paltform digital di Wilayah Hukum Kepolisian Daerah Riau. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian hukum sosiologis, yaitu penelitian yang hendak melihat korelasi antara hukum dan masyarakat dengan adanya kesenjangan antara das sollen dan das sein, sumber data adalah data primer dan data sekunder yang terdiri dari bahan hukum primer, bahan hukum sekunder dan bahan hukum tersier. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah wawancara dan studi kepustakaan serta analisa data menggunakan kualitatif dengan metode deduktif. Adapun yang menjadi responden adalah aparat penegak hukum dari penyidik subdit V siber Ditreskrimsus Polda Riau, penyidik subdit IV PPA Ditreskrimsus Polda Riau, dan masyarakat paham hukum. Hasil penilitian ini ialah Penegakan Hukum terhadap pelaku tindak pidana child grooming melalui platform digital di Wilayah Hukum Kepolisian Daerah Riau, meliputi adanya temuan terkait tindak pidana child grooming, penyelidikan awal, pengumpulan bukti, penagkapan dan penyitaan, terakhir penyidikan mendalam. Yang menjadi faktor penghambat antara lain faktor pelaku berada diluar yurisdiksi, anonymus, barang bukti rentan hilang, kurangnya sumber daya dan kurangnya kesadaran orang tua. Adapun upaya yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi kendala dalam penegakan hukum antara lain dengan koordinasi antar wilayah hukum, kerja sama dengan platform digital dan penyedia layanan internet, selanjutnya meningkatkan kapasitas dan koordinasi aparat penegak hukum, dan terakhir dapat dilakukan digital parenting.
