Abstract

An experimental study on the effect of Gambier (Uncaria gambir R.) on burned skin of male white mice (Mus musculus L.) was conducted at The Animal Physiology Laboratory Andalas University. This experiment used Complete Random Design (CDR) consisted of five treatments, i.e: 0.00%, 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00% and five replication with the observation lasted for 15 days. The results showed that Gambier gave significantly different effects (p = 0.004) on both the percentage of healing and the wound recovery. The highest percentage of wound healing was 94.783% and the largest diameter of wound recovery was 9.436 mm obtained at 0.50%  at 8 days.Keyword: Uncaria gambir, burned skin, wound recovery.

Abstract

An experiment on respiration rate of German cockroach (Blattella germanica, Dictyoptera; Blattellidae) that had been resistant to pyrethroid insecticide was done from December 2012 to Mei 2013. This experiment used completely randomized design with two treatments (with insecticide and without insecticide exposured) and three replications. The respiration rate were measured using the Scholander Respirometer. The control subject were VCRU-WHO as a susceptible strain standarized by WHO, while the resistance strains were GFA-JKT, KRSA-BDG, PLZ-SMRD and PLZ-PDG consisted of female, male and nymph Individuals. The results shown that respiration rates were not significant difference between susceptible and resistance strains on females (F: 0.373, df: 4, P: 0.823), males (F: 0.562, df: 4, P: 0.696) and nymphs (F: 0.402, df: 4, P: 0.803). The respiration rate were also not significant difference between with insecticide and without insecticide exposured, except within GFA-JKT females (F: 9.161, df: 4, P: 0.039), VCRU-WHO males (F: 11.779, df: 4, P: 0.026) and GFA-JKT nymphs (F: 8.733, df: 4, P: 0.042). Those results support that resistant cockroach do not increase respiration rate in responding insecticide exposured. Keywords: German cockroach, respiration rate, strains, insecticide exposured

Abstract

Research on utilization the combination of taro leaves flour (Colocasia esculenta L. Schott) and soybean flour in artificial feed on the growth weight of carp fish (Osphronemus gourami L.) was conducted from February to April 2016. The aim of this research was to determine the percentage of utilization the combination of taro leaves four and soybean flour in artificial feed on the growth weight of carp fish. This research uses a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment in this research was a combination of taro leaves flour in artificial feed about 0%, 5%, 10% and 15%. The results showed that the combination of taro leaves flour (Colocasia esculenta L. Schott) about (0, 5, 10 and 15%) with soybean flour in artificial feed formulation having the same effect (P>0,05) on the growth weight of carp fish.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak kelenjar hipofisa ayam broiler dan dosis yang terbaik dalam mempercepatrespon ovulasi yang dilihat dariwaktu laten, kematangan telur tahap akhir, dan diameter telur ikan koi. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metodeeksperimen yang disusun dalam rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) terdiri dari empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Perlakuan yaitu penyuntikan tanpa ekstrak hipofisa ayam broiler (kontrol) dan penyuntikan ekstrak hipofisa ayam broiler dengan 500 mg/kg berat badan, 600 mg/kg berat badan, 700 mg/kg berat badan. Ikan yang digunakan adalah induk ikan koi dengan berat 600-800 gram sebanyak 12 ekor. Hasil penelitian waktu laten ikan koi setelah penyuntikan berkisar antara 6-10 jam, kontrol 31 jam. Kematangan telur meningkat sebesar 30-43,83%, kontrol 18,33 jam. Diameter telur meningkat sebesar 0,06-0,10 mm, kontrol 0,02 mm. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini penyuntikan ekstrak kelenjar hipofisa ayam broiler memberikan pengaruh yang berbeda nyata dalam mempercepat respon ovulasi dilihat dari waktu laten, meningkatkan kematangan telur tahap akhir dan diameter telur ikan koi dengan dosis terbaik 500 mg/kg berat badan.

Abstract

A study about firefly species was conducted at the Gunung Tujuh, Kerinci, Jambi Province. This study was used purposive sampling method and direct collection used insect net at Gunung Tujuh lake climb track. The results show that 59 individuals were collected consist of three subfamilies (Amydetinae, Lampyrinae and Luciolinae), six genera and 10 species. One species from Amydetinae are Vesta menetriesi, Lampyrinae were three species are Diaphanes javanus, Pyrocoelia analis and larvae of Lamprigera sp, and Luciolinae were six species are Curtos cerea, Curtos sp. 1, Curtos sp. 2, Luciola picea, Luciola sp. 1, and larvae of Luciola sp. 2. All species were not reported in previous studies in West Sumatra.

Abstract

The toxic effect of essential oil from waste cinnamon leaf (Cinnamomum burmanii) against pests of cocoa fruit Helopeltis antonii (Hemiptera; Miridae), has been done in Green House, Research Station Spice and Medicinal Plants, Laing Solok, West Sumatra in April to May 2016. The experiment aimed to determine repellant and lethal concentrations of essential oil from waste s cinnamon leaf (C. burmanii) for H. antonii. There were 5 treatments arranged in Complately Randomized Design with 4 replications. The treatments tested were essentialoil concentration f (0.05 ml/tube, 0.1 ml/tube, 0.2 ml/tube and 0.5 ml/tube) and control. The results showed that the effective repellent concentration were 0,05 ml/tube and 0,1 ml/tube which repelled H. antonii 0,03 % . The effecive lethal concentration was 0,05 ml/tube which killed H. antonii 57,50 %. Concentration used was highly toxic which killed l H. Antonii within six hours so of the repellent nature was notobserved.

Abstract

Salah satu cara untuk mempercepat pematangan gonad dan ovulasi yaitu aplikasi nutrisi pada pakan induk. Tauge memilki kandungan nutrisi yang sangat baik untuk reproduksi dan dapat diolah menjadi pakan yang berkualitas dalam meningkatkan reproduksi ikan. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian tepung tauge dalam formulasi pakan buatan terhadap persentase kematangan telur tahap akhir ikan lele sangkuriang. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Perlakuannya berupa pemberian tepung tauge dengan dalam formulasi pakan buatan (pelet) untuk ikan lele yang terdiri atas 0 %, 5 %, 10 % dan 15 % tepung tauge. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian tepung tauge dalam formulasi pakan buatan memberikan pengaruh yang berbeda nyata (P<0.05) terhadap persentase kematangan telur tahap akhir dengan rata-rata pertambahan persentase kematangan telur tahap akhir berkisar antara 53,33-68,88 %. Nilai tertinggi pertambahan persentase kematangan telur tahap akhir didapatkan pada perlakuan tepung tauge 15 %.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the food preference of the Papilio memnon L. larvae on two host plants. This study was conducted by two choice food preference test combination of leaves Citrus aurantifolia Chrism. and Citrus hystrix DC. The result of this study showed that the third instar of P. memnon L. larva significant preferential feeding (P<0.05), while the fourth and fifth instar shown that no significant feeding preference beetwen host plants. Nitrogen and water content of leaves were higher on C. aurantifolia (0.212 % and 70.368%) than C. hystrix (0.04% dan 64.027%). While carbohydrate content was higher on C. hystrix (22.167%) than C.aurantifolia (31.097%).

Abstract

Warna menjadi indikator keindahan pada ikan hias, semakin cerah warna ikan maka akan semakin menarik dan harga jualnya pun akan semakin tinggi. Namun selama pemeliharaan ikan hias, warna sering menjadi kusam, kualitas warna menurun sehingga ikan hias tidak menarik lagi. Untuk itu perlu usaha untuk mempertahankan dan meningkatkan kualitas warna ikan, salah satunya dengan memberi pakan yang mengandung sumber karotenoid. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian tepung udang rebon terhadap kualitas warna pada ikan cupang. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metodeeksperimen yang disusun dalam rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) terdiri dari lima perlakuan dan empat kali ulangan selama 40 hari perlakuan.Perlakuan yaitu pemberian pakan tanpa penambahan tepung udang rebon (kontrol) dan pemberian pakan dengan penambahan tepung udang rebon 5%, 10%, 15%, dan 20%. Tingkat perubahan warna diamati setiap 10 hari menggunakan Toca Colour Finder memperlihatkan pemberian pakan dengan penambahan tepung udang rebon berbeda nyata pada taraf 5% terhadap tingkat perubahan warna baik pada sirip anal maupun sirip ekor ikan cupang. Pakan dengan penambahan tepung udang rebon 15-20% memberikan pengaruh yang baik dalam meningkatkan kualitas warna ikan cupang.

Abstract

The purposes of this study are to find out the toxicity and repellency of lemongrass oil (Cymbopogon flexuosus) to the German cockroach (Blatella germanica). Study was conducted from August to October 2016 in Research Laboratories of Animal Physiology, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Andalas University Padang. This study used the glass jar method (contact) with three strains of German cockroaches (VCRU-WHO, KRS-BDG and HHB-JKT) and lemongrass oil. The average of lethal time after 6 hour exposure ware counted with a probit analysis until found value LC90. The results showed that based on value LC90 strain VCRU-WHO 15,20%, strain KRS-BDG 22,42% and strain HHB-JKT 19,28% after 6 hour exposure.
