Abstract

This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, assessment, and to describe the factors and solutions to overcome the inhibiting factors in the implementation of the Discovery Learning method based on short film media in learning to write short stories for class IX students of SMP Negeri 2 Bunobogu in the 2024/2025 Academic Year. The method used in this study is a descriptive method with a qualitative research type. The data used in this study are notes on student activities during learning, and the results of students' short stories, as well as the results of photo documentation. The data sources in this study are data obtained directly from the research subjects, namely the results of interviews with teachers and students of SMP Negeri 2 Bunobogu, the results of observations of the learning process in class, and short story writing tests carried out by students. Data collection techniques are carried out by means of observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this study are carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Discovery Learning with short films is effective for teaching short story writing in grade IX of SMPN 2 Bunobogu in 2024/2025, and the obstacles can be overcome with the right strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the forms of registers used by Sundanese street vendors in Gorontalo City and (2) describe the factors that influence the use of registers of Sundanese street vendors in Gorontalo City. This study uses a sociolinguistic approach based on Halliday's register theory. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques are carried out through direct observation, listening to conversations, interviews, recordings, documentation. Data analysis techniques are carried out in 5 stages (1) transcribing the recording results, (2) translating, (3) identifying data, (4) grouping data, (5) analysis results and conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the form of language register used by traders consists of single and compound words that are functional, communicative, and adaptive to the surrounding environment. The vocabulary used reflects the characteristics of the Sundanese language. In addition, the use of this register is influenced by ethnic factors, social interaction, communication goals, and trade situations.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the form of swear words in Tondano Javanese by traders at Yosonegoro Market, West Limboto, describe the function of swear words in Tondano Javanese by traders at Yosonegoro Market, and describe the meaning of swear words in Tondano Javanese by traders at Yosonegoro Market, West Limboto. The supporting theories used are the theory of swear words by Wijana (2013) to determine the forms of swear words, the theory of swear words by Allan & Burridge (2006) to identify the use of swear words in the daily communication of traders, and the theory of swear words that are relevant in this study, namely literal meaning and connotative meaning. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with a sociolinguistic approach and a qualitative descriptive research type. Data collection techniques used in this study are observation techniques, listening techniques without speaking, speaking techniques, note-taking techniques, and sound and image recording techniques. The results of the study show that the forms of swear words found vary, ranging from words, phrases, and clauses. The functions of swear words include expressive functions, aggressive functions, satire functions, and humor/familiarity functions. The meaning of swear words includes two meanings: literal meaning and connotative meaning. The use of swear words is strongly influenced by certain situations.

Abstract

Speech acts are a way of communicating that considers both language use and situational aspects. They are classified into locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts. This study aims to describe the forms and types of directive speech acts in community activities in Botubarani Village, Bone Bolango Regency. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected from conversations between speakers and interlocutors, including tourists at the whale shark tourism site. The findings reveal 40 instances of directive speech acts categorized into five types: warnings, recommendations, advice, requests, and prohibitions. The study concludes that the forms and types of directive speech acts in the village align with the applied theories and methods.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning activities of writing short stories for class XI students of MAN 1Kota Gorontalo , which consist of (1) how teachers plan the instruction of short story writing (2) how the instructional prosess is conducted in the classroom, (3) how studing writing is assessed, (4) what factors influence the instructional prosess, and (5) what solutions are implemented to overcome existing challenge. This study uses a descriptive method. There are three data collection techniques, namely documentation, observation, and interviews. Data analysis is carried out by identifying, classifying, describing, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that teachers have prepared learning plans in accordance with the independent curriculum through teaching modules that include learning objectives, learning activities, and learning assessments. The learning process is carried out by combining lecture methods, discussions, direct practice, and the use of learning media such as LCDs and teaching materials. Evaluation is carried out formatively and summatively through assessing the process and products of students' short stories. However, there are several obstacles that affect the effectiveness of learning, such as limited facilities, low learning motivation, lack of student confidence in writing, and limited mastery of linguistic structures and rules.

Abstract

Bahasa Bajo adalah satu di antara bahasa daerah yang ada di Provinsi Gorontalo khususnya yang terdapat di Desa Bajo Kec. Tilamuta  Kab. Boalemo. Umum mata pencaharian Suku Bajo adalah nelayan tradisional. Suku  Bajo  pun  mulai  memiliki  mata  pencaharian  bukan  hanya  sebagai  nelayan, banyak  di  antara  mereka  yang  profesi  seperti  guru, pedagang,  petugas  kesehatan,  pegawai pemerintahan,  dan  lain  lain.  Dengan beragam profesi ini, berdampak pada penggunaan beragam bahasa pada masyarakat suku Bajo, namun penutur bahasa Bajo tetap memperlihatkan sikap positif sebagai upaya dalam pemertahanan bahasa Bajo. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan penelitian pemertahanan bahasa Bajo di Kabupaten Boalemo. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan pemertahanan bahasa Bajo melalui sikap bahasa penutur bahasa Bajo di Desa Bajo Kec. Tilamuta Kab. Boalemo Provinsi Gorontalo. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik angket dan wawancara. Data hasil penelitian yang diperoleh dari angket dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Berdasarkan hasil penelitian terkait penggunaan bahasa oleh masyarakat di desa Bajo, ditemukan bahwa masyarakat setempat lebih dominan menggunakan bahasa Bajo, hal ini karena masyarakat di desa Bajo tersebut mayoritas berlatar belakang suku Bajo, dibandingkan dengan suku Gorontalo atau suku lainya yang sangat minoritas di desa tersebut, sehingga dapat dikatakan bahwa bahasa yang lebih dominan digunakan oleh masyarakat di desa tersebut adalah bahasa Bajo (bahasa mayoritas). Penggunaan bahasa Bajo ditunjukkan melalu sikap masyarakat di Desa Bajo masih memiliki sikap positif. Hal ini ditandai oleh sejumlah ciri-ciri dari sikap bahasa, antara lain pemilihan, penggunaan dan pemertahanan bahasa. Selain itu, bahasa Bajo ini sangat mendominasi sehingga mengakibatkan adanya pergeseran bahasa daerah lainnya. Adanya pergeseran bahasa daerah lainnya mengindikasi pada adanya pemertahanan bahasa Bajo di Desa Bajo, Kecamatan Tilamuta, Kabupaten Boalemo
