This study intended to determine whether the use of picture series is effective in teaching writing procedural text and which components of writing increase after the use of picture series in teaching writing procedural text at the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Sakra. The research method was quasi-experimental with a control group pretest and post-test design. The population was tenth-grade students. The sample was 50 students from 2 classes, 10 E was the experimental group, and then 10 J was the control group. Samples were taken using random cluster sampling. The instrument of data collection was a written test. The result of the t-test was 3.953, and the t-table was 2.011 for df 48 (50-2) at a significant level of 0,05 (95%). It can be concluded that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Thus, the use of picture series was effective in teaching writing procedural text in the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Sakra. While, the components of writing in the experimental group which increased overall after using picture series in writing procedural text were content, organization, and grammar.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study investigates the predictive validity of peer assessment of teacher evaluations in English micro-teaching performance among preservice teachers Methodology: This study used a quantitative correlational-predictive design with 48 preservice teachers selected through random cluster sampling. The study used peer and teacher performance assessment rubrics covering eight teaching skills, which were previously validated by two experts (CVI = 1.0). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, linear regression, and paired-sample t-tests to examine predictive validity, alignment, and discrepancies between peer and teacher evaluations in micro-teaching performance. Main Findings: Data reveal a moderate to strong correlation between peer and teacher scores (r = 0.645, p < 0.001), with peer assessments significantly predicting teacher evaluations (R² = 0.416). However, peer scores were consistently lower (M = 34.02 vs. 38.33, p < 0.001), particularly in complex areas like classroom management and reinforcement. This highlights peer assessment’s value as a supplementary tool for evaluating teaching and fostering reflection, while underscoring the need for assessor training and rubric calibration to ensure reliability. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study brings a new perspective by exploring whether peer assessment in English micro-teaching can actually predict teacher evaluations. Unlike most research that sees peer review only as a learning aid, this study shows peers can meaningfully mirror teacher judgments, while also revealing where their views differ. The findings highlight the potential of peer assessment as both a learning and an evaluative tool in teacher education.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of information gap activities to improve students’ reading skills especially skimming and scanning. This study was conducted at the second grade students of SMAN 1 Woja. It was an experimental research using quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test design which were given to the experimental and control group as the participants. The experimental group was XI MIPA 1 which was taught using information gap activities about analytical exposition text, while, the control group was XI MIPA 2 which was taught without using information gap. The result of this study shows that information gap activities has an effect to increase students’ reading skills with the mean score obtained by the experimental group 69.35 which was greater than the control group which was 62.5. The t-test result indicated that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected in which at significance 5% t-test was greater that t-table (to > tt) which was 3 > 1.996 and at significance 1% to > tt which was 3 > 2.652. It means that there is significant effect of information gap activities to improve students’ reading skills. The observation data gained in this research shows that information gap activities provide a cooperative learning environment, help students to remember the information in the text easily, create fun learning atmosphere, and increase vocabulary mastery. The result proved that information gap activities can be the alternative strategy to increase reading skills. Keywords: reading skills, information gap activities, skimming, scanning.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation process, focusing on teaching methods, challenges encountered, and outcomes achieved. Employing a qualitative research design, data were gathered through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and analysis of lesson plans and teaching materials. Findings reveal that while teachers employ innovative strategies to engage students, their efforts are constrained by insufficient training and limited institutional support. Student engagement and comprehension vary, influenced by both instructional methods and the learning environment. The findings suggest that enhancing teacher training programs, providing adequate resources, and fostering collaboration among educators and stakeholders can significantly improve the effectiveness of the local content curriculum. Policymakers must prioritize systemic support to address challenges and ensure English instruction contributes effectively to students' language development and academic success.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of using animation videos as a teaching medium to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at SMPN 16 Mataram. The study addressed the problem of low vocabulary achievement caused by conventional and less engaging teaching methods in English classrooms. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 32 eighth-grade students of class VIII C in the academic year 2024/2025. The instrument used was a validated vocabulary test comprising 20 items in the form of multiple-choice and matching questions. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test with the assistance of SPSS 25. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary scores, with the mean score increasing from 58.91 in the pre-test to 85.63 in the post-test. The significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000, which was lower than 0.05. These findings indicate that animation videos provide an engaging learning experience and effectively enhance students’ vocabulary mastery at the junior high school level.
