Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the learning environment on the learning motivation of students in the Economic Education Department, Class of 2024, Faculty of Economics and Business, State University of Gorontalo. The research employed a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The population consisted of 197 students, while the sample comprised 40 students selected using probability sampling techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using validity testing, reliability testing, normality testing, simple linear regression analysis, t-test, and coefficient of determination analysis. The research instrument was found to be valid and reliable, and the data were normally distributed, as indicated by an Asymp. Sig. value of 0.703 (> 0.05). The results revealed that the learning environment had a positive and significant effect on students' learning motivation. This finding was evidenced by the calculated t-value of 3.244, which was greater than the t-table value of 1.688, indicating that the research hypothesis was accepted. The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.217 or 21.7%, meaning that 21.7% of the variation in students' learning motivation could be explained by the learning environment, while the remaining 78.3% was influenced by other factors outside the scope of this study. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the better the learning environment experienced by students, the higher their learning motivation. Therefore, efforts from students, lecturers, and faculty administrators are necessary to create a conducive learning environment in order to enhance students' learning motivation.

Abstract

The creative economy drives Indonesia's economic growth, yet its competitiveness in peripheral regions such as Gorontalo Province is constrained by dependence on a single flagship subsector and limited institutional support. Prior studies have examined human capital (HC), intellectual capital (IC), human resource development (HRD), and competitive advantage largely in isolation, leaving the pathways through which HC and IC relate to creative economy competitiveness (CEC) insufficiently explained. Objective: This study analyzes the effect of HC and IC on CEC, directly and through HRD as a mediator, among creative economy actors in Gorontalo Province. Method: A cross-sectional survey of n = 96 creative economy actors was conducted using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) in SmartPLS 4. Following an audit of a reverse-worded item and iterative indicator elimination, the final model retained 19 indicators with adequate validity and reliability. Results: Bootstrapping shows HC significantly affects HRD (β = 0.365, p < .001) and CEC directly (β = 0.372, p = .001), with HRD partially mediating this relationship (β = 0.116, p = .018). IC significantly affects HRD (β = 0.318, p = .002), and HRD significantly affects CEC (β = 0.319, p = .005), but IC has no significant direct effect on CEC (β = 0.145, p = .138), and its indirect effect through HRD is only marginal (β = 0.101, p = .054). Post-hoc power analysis indicates the study was underpowered to detect the small IC-CEC effect (observed power = .35). Conclusion: These results reveal an asymmetric mechanism: human capital exerts an immediate effect on competitiveness, whereas intellectual capital requires conversion through concrete HRD activities, a conversion only partially confirmed here. This study contributes by identifying this asymmetry as a boundary condition of intellectual capital theory in small-enterprise contexts, and offers practical implications for creative economy policy that prioritizes capacity-building over passive knowledge-asset accumulation.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The transition toward a green economy has intensified pressure on firms to align earnings quality with sustainability performance, yet subsector differences within food industries remain underexplored. This study profiles and compares earnings management and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance among plantation and processed-food firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2018–2025. Using a descriptive-comparative design, the analysis covers 184 firm-year observations from 23 firms selected through multistage sampling. Earnings management is assessed through discretionary accruals estimated with Modified Jones and Dividend-Adjusted Modified Jones models, while sustainability performance is evaluated through environmental, social, governance, and overall ESG scores, supported by nonparametric difference tests. Results show earnings management is largely adaptive, as the dividend-adjusted measure reveals stronger income-increasing tendencies once dividend distribution is incorporated. Plantation firms record significantly higher ESG performance than processed-food firms (59.08 versus 47.11 on a 0–100 scale; p = 0.000), especially in the environmental dimension, while processed-food firms show governance-led improvement after 2022. The study concludes that earnings quality and sustainability performance are subsector-contingent and cannot be inferred from aggregate ESG scores alone. Regulators and managers should calibrate green financial governance to each subsector’s operational pressures Keywords: corporate sustainability performance; discretionary accruals; earnings management; ESG; plantation firms; processed foodJEL Classification: M41; Q56; G34

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of recruitment and training on employee work productivity at PT. PLN (Persero) ULP Moutong. The research background is based on the role of productivity as an indicator of company efficiency and sustainability, as well as the phenomenon of increasing productivity achievements in that unit over the past three years, which requires an understanding of the driving factors. The research method used is quantitative with a correlational design, involving 47 employees selected purposively as a sample. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results prove that recruitment and training have a positive and significant effect on work productivity, both partially and simultaneously. Training was shown to have a more dominant influence. Overall, these two variables were able to explain 56.3% of the variation in productivity. The implication of these findings confirms the importance for the company to optimize selective recruitment processes and implement targeted training programs as a strategy to improve organizational performance sustainably.
