Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study English learning using nature-based learning methods to increase students' motivation in learning. In the minds of some students there is still a paradigm that assumes that success in learning English is due to talent. This assumption encourages students to be lazy to learn English. They tend to be more desperate and give up when they encounter difficulties in learning. However, learning English can be done anywhere and anytime using any method. The goal is that students can be motivated to develop learning that is more interesting and has a positive impact. The learning environment makes students broader in thinking and expression. The benefits of environment-based media allow students to better understand natural phenomena that occur in everyday life. Utilization of the environment makes the learning process more meaningful with the outdoor model. Students can explore the natural environment and learn practical skills to understand and appreciate aspects of environmental life. Learning activities will be more interesting for students. In addition, the use of the environment encourages an increase in student learning activities using nature-based learning methods

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the optimism dimensions and impacts of optimism found in the main characters in Interstellar, a movie by Christopher Nolan released in 2014. A descriptive qualitative method with a content analysis method was employed in this study. The data were collected using a literary study technique from the movie conversation. The data were analyzed using the optimism theory suggested by Seligman (2006). The results revealed that the optimistic dimensions found in this movie consist of permanence or immortality, pervasiveness, and personalization. These values are viewed as having impacts on the other movie characters, which reduces the attitude of pessimism and prejudice as well as leads experience to an optimistic stance. The findings imply that optimism values influence people to act, or even change their perspectives. A much deeper investigation of another crucial value in this movie is recommended as a reflection of the current literary works.

Abstract

Computer games have emerged in the past decade as potential media beyond entertainment. Despite its popularity, game accessibility remains a major concern of various researchers. Children population with motor disabilities is a potential target for developing entertainment or therapeutic support games due to their interest to play. This paper presents: (1) a framework for mobile games for children with motor disability using simple hand postures and (2) xgboost decision tree as a hand posture recognizer (98.48 percent training accuracy and 96.76 percent testing accuracy) as a prototype of hand posture-based commands as assistive technology to interact with games.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of digital storytelling in enhancing the speaking skills of secondary EFL learners. The research responds to persistent challenges in speaking instruction, particularly students’ limited fluency, low confidence, and insufficient exposure to meaningful communicative tasks. Using a mixed methods design, the study involved an eight week intervention in which students created scripted digital stories through narration, multimedia editing, and collaborative production. Quantitative data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments measuring fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and coherence, while qualitative data were obtained through observations, interviews, and student reflections. The findings reveal substantial improvements in speaking performance, especially in fluency and coherence, accompanied by increased engagement, reduced speaking anxiety, and heightened self awareness during the storytelling process. These results highlight that digital storytelling provides repeated oral practice and authentic communicative opportunities that support learners’ linguistic and affective development. The study offers implications for English teachers and curriculum designers by demonstrating that technology supported narrative tasks can be integrated into regular instruction to foster more interactive, creative, and student centered speaking learning environments.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the intrinsic elements that build the novel Sunset Bersama Rosie by Tere Liye and (2) identify the educational values contained in the novel through a literary sociology perspective. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with an embedded case study design. The data consist of words, phrases, and sentences taken from the novel, collected through reading, note-taking, and literature study techniques. Data validity was ensured through theoretical triangulation, and the analysis employed a dialectical approach to relate literary structure with social reality. The findings show that Sunset Bersama Rosie revolves around the themes of love, compassion, and sacrifice. The story follows Tegar, the main character, who experiences deep emotional struggles following the Bali II bombing in 2005. The settings of Bali, Lombok, and Jakarta enrich the novel’s socio-cultural background. The analysis reveals several educational values reflected in the characters’ behavior and moral development, including the value of peace shown through forgiveness after tragedy, love illustrated in Tegar’s sincere devotion to family and friends, sacrifice embodied by Rosie’s willingness to prioritize others’ happiness, and responsibility demonstrated through the characters’ commitment to face challenges with integrity. These values highlight how the novel not only portrays emotional resilience but also promotes moral awareness and social empathy in readers.
